This could be you!
Your donation, before midnight tonight, will build our campaign for the remaining contests and send a message of strength to all those scrutinizing the campaign finance reports.
And don’t forget — tonight is also the last chance to become one of the donors eligible for a dinner with me we’ll be having soon.
Will you make a donation of $25 now?
Last year, you could have entered to win for just $5. Today, you need to pony up $25. And next month, it could be $100. So don’t miss your chance.

You can’t win if you don’t play!

Toyota Prius owners in California already have some immunity from getting moving violation tickets, but more help is needed.
What about parking tickets? Perhaps we should make Priuseses fully immune from parking tickets as well. That would encourage more people to drive hybrids, right? And then we wouldn’t be forced to witness a sad scene like this, where a car that’s supposed to going 80 miles per in the fast lane with just one occupant is sidelined with a bum leg.

By the way, parking tickets are going up to $60 soon. Happy motoring!

Godfather of Blogging and longtime Slatester Mickey Kaus probably wouldn’t want to see this latest pro-Obama T-shirt being sported by attendees at the 2008 Democratic Party State Convention.
Why’s that? Well, because it truncates the northern half of the continental U.S. and associates the southern U.S with Latin America. Kind of an Aztlán thing. That’s why.
Getting into demographics, Barack is doing well with African Americans, of course, as well as enthusiastic white people and Asian Americans, but some of the folks with roots in the areas the t-shirt map purports to show don’t cotton to him all that much so far. Obamanos is a clever phrase designed to help Barack with the latino demo.
It can’t hurt.

The entire mise-en-scene, after the jump.

Sighted yesterday in front of the 2008 Democratic Party State Convention.
Look at these poor souls who don’t yet realize that decisions made in Florida and Michigan last year mean that voters from those states won’t get to have their say on the Democratic primary?
Don’t they know that the primary is over? Well, not quite. Anything can happen.

After last night’s Earth Hour of partial darkness from 8:00-9:00 PM, the lights on the “architectural necklace” of the western span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge came back to life on the north side first. (Unfortunately, didn’t get a look at the troubled eastern span last night - it was probably darkened also.)

You can get the idea of the effect of Earth Hour 2008 in San Francisco by looking at these before and after shots of the Ferry Building taken by talented local photographer Mona Brooks.
The lights on the suspension cables of the western span of one of the busiest bridges in the world are just for decoration, not for navigation safety or whatever. Pretty. They sure make a big difference to the look of San Francisco at night when they are turned off.
Question: Turning off these decorative lights for an hour saves enough electricity to power Al Gore’s house (his actual house, not his San Francisco condo in SOMA that’s visible on the right) for how many minutes?
Answer: About 13 minutes. Let’s work on that math, after the jump.

“Teen Rushmore 2008″, Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco

Look at Teddy Roosevelt’s shades in this photo of the original Mount Rushmore. Pretty small, huh? Compare that with what you see in the photo of these lovely teenagers from out of town who were waiting to see a KITS Live 105 show at the Regency Center.
So, this is it - mark your calendars. Spring 2008 will be the high water mark for enourmous sunglasses. They simply cannot get any larger. Therefore, the new trend will be smaller sunglasses.
The sooner the better.
