Nichi Bei Times’ Tofu Dessert Competition and Festival a Huge Success

Here was the scene in Japantown today at the Nichi Bei Times Tofu Dessert Competition and Festival. This well-attended event was a benefit for Nihonmachi Little Friends, a local Japanese bilingual and multicultural childcare agency.

Tofu Goma Cups from 2006 Cherry Blossom Queen Emily Yukiko Leach. Speaking of which, the 2009 Cherry Blossom Festival and Parade featuring Grand Marshall George Takei is kicking off next month on April 11. Other tofu dessert recipe finalists were Emiko Taki, Helen Lau, Masako Naktani, and Vincent Chang.

    That wasn’t even the whole crowd – it was packed.

    Consequently, there was some grandma grumbling about the distribution of treats. Some people ate five and some got none. I got half of one…
