The New UC Hastings Law School Parking Garage is Finally Up in Civic Center

Well, here it is. After all kinds of stress and strife, the University of California, Hastings College of the Law parking garage / multi-use building in the Civic Center / Tenderloin area (aka Little Saigon) looks done from the outside.

Soon the legal eaglets at the largest and oldest law school in the West (yes, older than vaunted Boalt Hall across the estuary in Berkeley) will be able to easily descend from their nests at historic 100 McAllister or the “Book Concern Building” to get to their small German cars - without hogging up spaces at the Civic Center Parking Garage (aka Victory Garden Basement).

Note the “sickly green tiling” put in by the Vanishing Construction Workers of San Francisco County.

It’s up… and it’s good! Three points for UC Hastings.

    I love the blog…

But, I think you have a skewed view of who is attending Hastings. The German car driving WASPS attend Boalt and Stanford. My wife attends Hastings and neither her – nor any of her friends – have anything to their name aside from $150K in student loans…

Hastings is a great school, probably better than their top 30 rating, but I don’t think there are THAT many silver spoons at 100 McAllister.

I’m talking vw jettas and the like.

I’m not sure the demographics at Berkeley are all that much different than Hastings. A lot of Cal alums got to both law schools, of course…

What ARE you talking about? Little Saigan is a good 10-15 minute walk up the hill, Hastings area is definitely NOT Little Saigon.
All the stress and strife was largely imagined. It was after all Hastings property and for many, MANY years was simply an empty parking lot. The parking was desperately needed and as far as the small German car comment I agree with other posters, many of the Hastings students drive junkers, walk or ride their bikes. Hastings is well known for its public interest program and draws a larger granola crowd than even Boalt! I don’t know anyone with a BMW or expensive car that goes there quite honestly.

NOTE THE TWO “LITTLE SAIGON” BANNERS CLEARLY VIEWABLE _DOWN_ THE HILL FROM THE NEW GARAGE. A FIFTEEN MINUTE WALK UPHILL WOULD PUT A PED OVER NOB AND RUSSIAN HILLS AND ON THE WAY TO FISHERMAN’S WHARF. WELCOME TO SAN FRANCISCO…

Hastings area is definitely NOT Little Saigon.
PERHAPS THE CITY IS CONFUSED WHERE THEY PUT UP THE BANNERS?

All the stress and strife was largely imagined.
    NO IT WASN’T.

It was after all Hastings property
OH BOY, THE REAL ESTATE EMPIRE OF UC HASTINGS – THAT’S A CAN OF WORMS YOU DON’T WANT TO OPEN. DID THEY REALLY USE MONEY MEANT FOR SCHOLARSHIPS TO BUY LAND? YES THEY DID.

and for many, MANY years was simply an empty parking lot.
    ACTUALLY, A FULL PARKING LOT.

The parking was desperately needed and as far as the small German car comment I agree with other posters,
OR “POSTER” SINCE THERE WAS ONLY ONE.

many of the Hastings students drive junkers, walk or ride their bikes. Hastings is well known for its public interest program and draws a larger granola crowd than even Boalt!
THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF THE TWO SCHOOLS ARE SIMILAR.

I don’t know anyone with a BMW or expensive car that goes there quite honestly.
AS STATED BEFORE, I’M TALKING VW JETTAS AND THE LIKE.

WE’LL JUST HAVE TO SEE HOW MANY GERMAN CARS ARE IN THAT GARAGE WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE.
