San Francisco’s Virgin America Airlines Gets Its Own Reality Show March 24th: Fly Girls

San Francisco-based Virgin America Airlines has its own “docu-series” starting up on March 24th at 9:30 PM on the CW – it’s called Fly Girls (and it’s not to be confused with the In Living Color/Jennifer Lopez kind of Fly Girls from the 90′s).

Take a look. Meet Mandalay, a local “girl” who’s a Virgin America flight attendant based out of SFO in real life. Listen to her go on about the “romance of aviation” and the benefits of choosing Virgin America, the only California-based airline left by the way.

Barbie, Skipper, and the “ethnic girlfriends of Barbie” (or, more politely, a “mini- United Nations of races and ethnicities“) are coming soon to KBCW-TV channel 44 / 45 and all the CW stations across America. Oh yes, their “real” names (or “reel” names) are Tasha, Louise, Mandy (or Mandi), Nikole and Farrah:

Doesn’t this promo shot from the CW Network of former beauty queen Nikole look just like a Virgin America ad?

This show is going to be something like eight half-hour Virgin America infomercials complete with 30-second commercials for shampoo and cosmetics. Nevertheless, it’s going to be better than NBC’s high-budget San Francisco-based Trauma serial, that’s a given from the get-go. (Wonder if cheeky Virgin Airlines founder Sir Richard Branson will make an appearance or two…)

Just discovered that my aging Trinitron (that could be older than you) actually receives channel 44 so I’ll be sure to tune in to check out the debut.

Excelsior, Ever Upward.

Now, meet the Fly Girls and get more deets after the jump.

Virgin America’s ‘Fly Girls’ Take Off

New CW Network Show Follows the Lives of Virgin America’s “Fly Girls” Cast to Work In-flight Premiere in the Sky, then Land on the Palazzo’s Red Carpet for Vegas Launch Party

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 26  — Virgin America, the only California-based airline, tonight joins forces with The CW and Collins Avenue Productions to celebrate “Fly Girls,” the new television docu-series that takes a 360-degree look at the airline’s flight crew as they live their lives at 500 MPH.  The series will debut on The CW at 9:30pm on March 24, 2010.  In advance of the show’s network debut, tonight the exclusive in-flight premiere of “Fly Girls” will take off onboard a Virgin America flight en route to Las Vegas, followed by a red carpet launch party for the show at Lagasse’s Stadium at The Palazzo Las Vegas.  To celebrate the premiere with flyers, earlier this week Virgin America announced the Primetime Fare Sale.

“The idea behind Virgin America is to reinvent the experience of flying with beautifully designed mood-lit cabins, incredible guest service and a hip, sophisticated vibe that today’s travelers are looking for,” said Porter Gale, Vice President of Marketing at Virgin America.  “We’re thrilled to work with The CW to show how our in-flight teammates are re-writing the script and bringing the style and fun back to flying.”

Tonight, the “Fly Girls” cast will work VX Flight 6005 en route to Las Vegas, serving cocktails like “VeeVa La Fly Girls” by VeeV Acai Spirit while flyers get a sneak peek of the show’s first episode on Red(TM), Virgin America’s innovative touch-screen entertainment platform.  Upon touchdown, flight guests will be whisked to a star-studded launch party at the ultimate destination hotspot – The Palazzo Las Vegas.  Guests at the party, including over 100 Virgin America teammates, will enjoy specialty cocktails provided by Belvedere Vodka, Ambhar Tequila, TY KU and VeeV, served by Palazzo waiters decked out in flight gear.  Guests will also be able to cast their vote on who will be the most “talked about” Fly Girl via SMS texting screens at the event.

“This show is about real women who happen to have landed on a very different career path.  It chronicles the places they go, the guests they meet and their lives together,” said Kristen Vadas, Senior Vice President, Alternative Programming, The CW. “We’re thrilled to be working with Virgin America to give our viewers a unique peek into their whirlwind life at 35,000 feet.”

Fly Girls is from Collins Avenue Productions, with executive producers Jeff Collins (“Bridezilla 3, 4 & 5,” “The Exterminators”) and Colin Nash (“The Hills,” “The City”) and co-executive producers Larry Bond and Porter Gale.  For exclusive content from the show, including cast interviews, visit Virgin America’s You Tube channel, Facebook page – or www.cwtv.com.

With constant flying and the need to transition from work to evening in a flash, the Fly Girls know how to travel effortlessly and in style.  Virgin America and Banana Republic have teamed up to offer flyers the chance to “Land The Look” from Banana Republic’s spring collection (featuring travel-ready chino).  Winners will land the Ultimate Style Getaway and in-flight premiere guests will score a special gift – Banana Republic’s classic aviator sunglasses.  Elevate members can now also earn free flights just by shopping-in-style at the Red Store, which features 150 retailers like Banana Republic.

Launched in August 2007, Virgin America is a domestic airline with low-fares, concierge-like guest service and stylish amenities that offer travelers the “Hollywood treatment.”  In just two years flying, the airline and its 1500 teammates captured the “Best Domestic Airline” title in both Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers Choice Awards and Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards.  Virgin America flies to San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C., Seattle, Las Vegas, San Diego, Boston, Orange County and Fort Lauderdale.
