Strybing Arboretum Starts Charging $7 Admission Today – “A Sad Day for Many Families”

A small group of protesters was on hand this AM at the main entrance of Strybing Arboretum (aka San Francisco Botanical Garden) in Golden Gate Park.

This woman’s been coming to Strybing since 1970 and she has a photo of her with baby Nell to prove it. And at the lower right of this poster, she has a shot from ought-three when Nell got married in the Main Meadow. But Nell’s off in the East Bay now, so it’d be $15 for Nell and her fam to come visit these days.

I wish all cultural institutions had full financial support from foundations and government to function, but that is not the case. A small fee can help a museum sustain itself and is a small price to pay for the many years of experiences it will offer generations to come. I’d buy a membership and enter the garden all year long and feel good that I am supporting a cultural institution in a big way.

She’s been enjoying the facilities for FORTY years, perhaps without leaving a ducat there, and she’s SAD?!?

Walls, security points, etc. are from the days prior to Ronald Raygun.

It seems the SF Tyranical Society and SF Wreck and Pork are totally unaware of the spirit of our time and ignorant to the easy to see fact that all sorts of walls have been torn down and are not being erected any longer, except for creepy places like Arizona.

This is the Age of the Internet: Never before has so much data been available for so many people so easily.

Right now, obstacles to data, experiences, etc. are also being erected around about 1/3 of GGP so that a private entity, viz., Another Planet Entertainment, can have possessory and exclusive access for the Outside Lands Music Festival.

Again, the public is being fenced out of public property.

The whole world is tearing down walls, whereas SF Wreck and Pork and the SF Botanical Society are installing them.

How could anyone be so out of touch with the times??
