Charging Fees to See Trees at Golden Gate Park’s Arboretum Doesn’t Even Pay the Bills
Arboretum Fees Don’t Even Pay the Bills
Yep and yep.
Is Phil Ginsburg the new village idiot now that the old Mayor has blown town? Does Phil Ginsburg have a “Life Coach” too, you know, someone to tell him how he’s always right and how he can See The Future better than anyone else? Tony Robbins, here we come.
Anyway, for some reason, our Strybing Arboretum needs to impress people on the East Coast, people in Boston, New York, and D.C. You know, an “Our arbo is better than your arbo” kind of deal. That’s what drives the Great Fencing Off of Strybing. And you taxpayers, you visitors, you foreigners, you auslanders, well you can just go to Hell.
Oh well.

You need to live in the real world. This article did not poke fun at or mock the Arboretum. It just said that they weren’t receiving the income from non-residents that they thought they would.
If anyone is provincial here, it’s you. This had nothing to do with “impressing” east coast folks. Are you that unsure of yourself?
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Breaking SF News, SF Community News. SF Community News said: San Francisco’s Attempt at a “World-Class” Arboretum Has Us Getting Mocked in the New Yawk Times Today: The New York… http://dlvr.it/FpN4Q [...]
You don’t think this makes SF the subject of mockery?
Do you know that on some days, charging admission doesn’t even cover the costs of paying the toll-takers minimum wage?
How many tens of millions of dollars have San Franciscans invested in the Arbo since Ms Strybing paid for the joint?
There is a strong push from the Society people to have a “world class” arbo. There is competition with East Coast arbos. You don’t know this?
It’s fine as it, they should open it up again.
They have also done a lot of destruction….
Meanwhile, these are the latest horrors I have witnessed at the Arboretum:

I just loved this green space!
Here is Ginsburg in conversation:

I’m just happy to see them removing the fees. As a tour guide it was always one of the neat SF things I recommended for a variety of reasons.
The privatization of city services and facilities has been a disaster wherever it has been tried and I have no doubt that this was the plan for our Arboretum.
