Remembering the Great Lawn of San Francisco’s Civic Center – Lost Due to the Victory Garden Fad

You remember this, the Great Lawn of Civic Center? It got uprooted for a “Victory Garden” (victory over whom, well, our enemies, how about that?) a few years back.

So nowadays, when they hold the annual anime costume contest in April, the players get extra hot due to the gravel and whatnot they’ve got there now. (But the anime kids would rather pass out than take off the head-parts of their getups, you know, to breath and whatnot.)

Perspective control, analog style, using an old-school 24mm tilt-shift lens. These days, you can use Photoshop when you want to make parallel lines parallel, as here, more or less. Don’t try this with your iPhone:

Thanks for traveling back in time a half-decade with Old Grandpa Citizen…

CatBus and my friend Totoro were smiling on the outside but heat stroking on the inside:

And then this penguin started acting strangely all of a sudden, David Lee Roth Loco Del Calor-style:

And the poor shutterbugs, they too feel the heat since the garden’s been gone.

But we’ll get our nice cool lawn back someday…
