Presenting the Rococo Fuji del Rey Road Bike from 1984 – A Little Rusty But Still on the Road

Check out the old-school all-metal emblem – I would have thought something like that would have used in the 1960′s or the 1970′s, but this rig is from 1984.

Fuji lagged behind some of the flashier Italian rides in the ’80′s. This is certainly high style circa 1976. Funny thing I like it better. I see a bunch of folks riding old bikes (sadly with the classic simplex, huret, and campy dérailleurs stripped off.) I love them nonetheless. I’ve seen a couple of Ciocc’s, locked to a post, battered by time (shit 30 years is a long time), but still gorgeous fucking bicycles. Compare the intricate shapes of an old lugged frame with the horrifying beads of a welded frame. There’s a deeper beauty to these things that’s been lost.
