White Bus, Black Windows: The Google Buses of San Francisco are Surprisingly Uncolorful

Friday, December 30th, 2011

OMG, it’s Google Bus #3 heading south on Van Ness Avenue past San Francisco’s City Hall. Next stop, Mountain View, CA

Gold! Real gold. Can you see it in the background? That’s the only flava to be seen in this shot:

You see, some people don’t like buses. They’re called NIMBYs. In the 415, they’re almost all rich, old, white people who have nothing else to do with their lives other than NIMBY. Oh well.

Anyway, Google is trying to keep a low profile, obviously. (I don’t know the current paint scheme of the Google jets, but I’ll bet it’s something more than just black and white. )

See below for other more colorful Google conveyances and appliances, spotted in San Francisco and Mountain View.

Well, here it is, the current generation Google Maps Car. (A Subaru, judging by the Pleiades icon on the nose – for some reason, Google stripped the badges from the rear of this car.)

Are there cameras and SICK laser range finders and WiFi detectors and whatnot on top of this Subie? Who knows…

And here’s what these rides looked like before they got wrapped:

And this was the first generation Map Car, seen getting busted by the Federal popo in the Presidio.

(I have dual sources supporting contradictory stories (so that’s four people promoting two completely different stories) on why this particular Googler got busted, or not busted as the case may be. Oh well. Did the Presidio Trust tell the Google to get a permit? And did Google ignore that request? Don’t know.)

And of course, don’t forget about the Google Bikes:

And the Google office:

And the Google Kitchen – it’s just like a 7-11 except shoplifting is encouraged:

And here’s the concomitant G-Toilet – it costs $700, it has over 20 buttons for its full operation, it’s made in Japan:

So that’s Google’s world.

Bon Courage, Googlers!

Embarcadero Center Employees are Now Cleaning Up the Justin Herman Plaza Bocce Ball Courts? Stickers Be Gone

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

This was the scene yesterday, with a man trying to remove pro-OccupySF stickers from the railing installed for the bocce courts recently installed for and by the rich, WASPy one-percent.*

The cops who have been patrolling this area for months were nowhere to be seen at this particular moment yesterday.

There are three stickers visible here. They have words like “war” and “cops” on them. The uniform badge says “Embarcadero Center Janitorial.”

Apparently, Embarcadero Center / the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Hotel have become clubhouses of sorts for anti-Occupy forces. Per the Counterpunch:

“On two separate occasions, I saw cops assembled in the Hyatt and a couple of other nearby hotels. I was sent by our General Assembly to do recon so I buttoned my shirt up, took off my bandana and put on my best English accent.

“Walking with a confident stride toward the Hyatt, wary security and bellhops opened the door for me. I found the cops relaxing in a conference room.”

When oh when will the one-percent reoccupy this part of Justin Herman Plaza?

*This includes former Mayor Gavin Newsom, also a rich, WASPy member of the 1%. For some reason, a small, Eurocentric lawn sport project was Job One for him, back in the day.

A Vote for 8 Washington is a Vote for Corruption: Public Hearing Date is January 19th, 2012

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

It begins, on January 19th at 11:00 AM, actually:

Since I oppose Rose Pak-style corruption, I suppose that makes me an “opponent of 8 Washington.” Learn about me here, from a very-well financed “grass-roots” campaign:

All right, in answer to the first graf:

Uh no, not actually, I just oppose Rose Pak-style corruption in San Francisco, that’s all. Isn’t she behind this or something? Isn’t she the worst person in San Francisco, a cancer on Chinatown?

In answer to the second graf:

Uh, no, I don’t care about swim and fitness. Maybe your anonymous campaign needs to broaden its scope? I mean, lots of people oppose corruption in San Francisco – they don’t have to live near 8 Washington to oppose 8 Washington, right?

In answer to the third graf:

Uh, how can a parking lot be “blight?” Actually, it probably looks like Heaven to our hassled tourists. And arent’ the people closely connected enough to SFGov to have a shot at this deal “elites.” by definition? #potkettleblack

Hey, how about this, why not change “opponents” to “some opponents?” Then you’d have a chance of being correct.

Enjoy your corruption, backers of 8 Washington.

NIMBYs are Born and Not Made: “ALAMO SQUARE NATIVE”

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Hurray for me!

I was born a rich white kid and now I live in my parent’s house, so hurray for me!

Hurray for Prop 13 middle class welfare, which subsidizes my existence! I use that welfare money to join local NIMBY groups and Support Your Parks and donate to KQED and buy MINI Coopers.

As seen in the Western Addition near Alamo Square:

Hurray for me!

Oh, dear 99 percenter, please make for me a bumper sticker that tells the world I’m an “ALAMO SQUARE NATIVE.”

Or, in other words, my bumper sticker says I’m better than you, Auslander.

So, hurray for me!

Turns Out That Skateboarding IS a Crime, At Least Sometimes – Overtaken on McAllister by a Rolling Gang

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

These kids go fast.

Downhill, anyway.

And they don’t slow down for red lights and stop signs, so they’ll go faster than you regardless of your method of transportation.

No matter, they know that McAllister Street is the best way to get over Alamo Heights, so you’ve got to give them points for that…

…or the Illini?

It’s like $25 for a cheap seat – you can afford that, right?

See you there!

Crazy State Worker Lady Wants Honda Civic Hybrid Owners to Sue Honda in Small Claims Court Over Low MPG

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

I’ll tell you, I don’t know how good your odds would be if you sued the maker of your car because you felt it didn’t meet the EPA mileage estimate, but this lady in SoCal appears to have a good shot.

I’ll tell you, Honda Civic Hybrid owners, The System wants you to take some worthless $100 coupon or whatever to compensate you for Honda messing up. The System doesn’t want you opting out of the national class action settlement.

Choose or lose, Honda owners.

Normally a small claims case is just that – small – in fact, barely an annoyance to large corporations because damages are limited. However, one small claims case pending in the Los Angeles area is certain to get a lot of attention because it will be going to trial just when approximately 200,000 Honda Civic Hybrid owners are opening their mailboxes to find notices of a proposed class action settlement where the Honda owners would get no more than $200 cash and the lawyers would get $8.474 million!

One disappointed Honda Civic Hybrid owner in California who got wind of the tiny settlement offer in advance chose to opt-out of the class and paid $75 to file a small claims case instead. The trial was set for January 3rd, six weeks before the 200,000 Civic owners are set to decide if they want to stick with the class action or file their own suits which can often be done quickly and cheaply without lawyers. (Think Judge Judy where regular people get up and give a 15 minute version of their complaint in plain English and then get a decision from the court). This case will be one of the first under the new 2012 law allowing individuals to sue for up to $10,000 in small claims court in California.

Honda has attempted four different legal maneuvers to postpone the trial until after the deadline had passed for Hybrid owners to opt-out of the class action, but the Judge said “no” all four times and the trial will proceed as originally scheduled on January 3rd. If the Plaintiff in that case wins and gets awarded thousands of dollars in damages, then Honda will have a lot of explaining to do to justify paying other Hybrid owners just enough to cover a few tanks of gas instead of replacing the defective hybrid batteries at $3,000 a pop – roughly $600,000,000.00!”

There’s Way More Poo in Justin Herman Plaza Now Than During the Height of OccupySF – Why Is That?

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Horses, that’s why. Police horses, that is.

JHP poo, tourists, the Embarcadero, and Ferry Building. Welcome to San Francisco!

Perhaps the super-whiny whiners in the the area, such as Boston Properties* and whoever, will start writing sneaky letters to SFGov about how they’re going to sue, sue, sue over horse poo now?

So, now that OccupySF is over, area property owners are happy? Really? Mmmm.

And who was it, was it Hawaiian Airlines or Disney what was demanding the end of OccupySF? Maybe I’ll look into that and see how they feel about Occupy. [Cough, boycott, cough.]

On It Goes…

*Owner of Embarcadero Center or someplace. (Now isn’t that a great name for a San Francisco company?)
