Incident at Rainbow Cleaners in the Inner Inner Richmond – Geary Boulevard Betwixt Arguello and Masonic is a Sad, Sad Place

Like, how many happy-ending massage parlors does one bleak stretch of Geary need, anyway?

Here’s the scene this AM on Blake, across the street from the now-shuttered Bridge Theatre, which is still advertising itself as having the best popcorn.

Our Great Recession still hangs over the Inner, Inner Richmond, that no man’s land between the Western Addition and the Richmond District proper.

Do you want to open a business, or maybe just a front for a money-laundering operation? Well, then this place is your best bet as there are lots and lots of empty storefronts to choose from.

Take a stroll why not?  It’s one of the most depressing places in town.

(But the future – who knows? There are numerous viable businesses to the west in the Inner Richmond and Mervyn’s (soon to be City Target) Heights up on Masonic is abuzz with activity…)

Geary keeps being sad well to the west of Arguello. I often walk on Clement, just to see what’s going on in all the various shops. I rarely walk on Geary, unless I’m headed somewhere specific. Empty lots, auto dealerships, parking lots, block-size inward-facing developments. It’s like that’s the place all the junk landed that no one wanted or cared about.

It’s a traffic sewer. What are you gonna do?

Well, traffic sewer. IDK, maybe the Geary tunnel blocks it off from elsewhere.

I thought CLement was a little depressing the last time I went through but at least it has viable businesses. East of Arg was a surprise to me, certainly.

And how can you tell the legit massage places from the non – covered windows? Seems that way…
