We do have a de facto flag already:

I am beginning to think the latest wave of tech workers who have arrived here in the last 15 years have no desire to understand the unique history of this city, and the flag redesign is a perfect example. I for one am getting VERY tired of their version of San Francisco 2.0 (or is it 5.0 at this point?).

The flag redesign was started by Roman Mars of 99% invisible, a great design program. It is fun and an interesting thing to think about. Not an indication of tech trends or anything like that… Just design-focused folks looking to do some fresh thinking and maybe even getting our city a new flag that can be a real symbol instead of a relic.

All right, I hear you – yes, it’s his initiative, his Ted Talk and yes it’s a good podcast.

    No, I think he’s serious.

Autodesk is funding this – I guess they’re tech.

This is design-focussed folks who must think everything’s great in Frisco and this is what we should spend our time/money/focus on.

The bird flag _is_ a real symbol, right?

Why doesn’t he “fix” the Oakland flag first?

This whole thing is so irritating that it made me stop listening to his podcast, which I used to occasionally enjoy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the current flag. Just leave it the fuck alone. Christ, do we have to fucking change EVERYTHING? Your podcast comes out of Oakland, as you remind us every episode. Go change their fucking flag.
