Lyftpocalypse Now: How Our SFMTA Could React to the Rise of UBER with One Simple Trick at Oak Octavia

Monday, May 8th, 2017

You know what a pigeon drop is? I sort of do, but I still don’t get it, not really. I’d be like, well, how is this going to work. And it was the same thing with the Octavia Boulevard disaster, which pitted a handful of landed millionaires of Hayes Valley, like a just a few homeowners, against all the little people of the West Side. It went back and forth a few times, but the West Side eventually lost and that’s how we ended up with the Octavia Boulevard disaster. Anyway, I never believed in it and I still don’t.

So that was then and this is now – traffic backed up all the way up and over the hill, going west from the Octavia Bottleneck. And this isn’t rush hour, this is just some random weekend day, when MUNI doesn’t even try, not really.

So I’m guessing that most of these drivers are trying to get to a freeway, but this plays Hell with crosstown traffic, which is down to Just One Lane.

But look ahead here – there’s a line of parked cars on the left side starting with a red one, see?

So why not just get rid of parking here? Wouldn’t that ease the bottleneck?

It sure would.

Of course our SFMTA is mad at UBER / Lyft these days and yes the arrival of all these Priuseses has hurt mobility, but why doesn’t the SFMTA react? Why can’t it fix its mistakes of the recent past?

What’s that, the SFMTA wants “buy in” from HV? But why is the SFMTA bending over backwards for HV over like eight or so highly intrusive parking spaces? I don’t get it.

And really I never did.

The City of Bell Police Visit Frisco

Monday, May 8th, 2017

Taking in the sights with some youth group or auxiliary cadets or something (EXPLORERS?), in a large body-on-frame van.

Man, Bell, CA has a lot going on for being just a population 35,000 city, that’s for sure.

(Who knows, maybe SFPD detectives put on their badges and drive Frisco yoots down to SoCal, IDK.)
