Never Seen So Many Parked Liveaboard-RV’s – Kicked Out of SoMA, They are Now Way South of SoMA – Life On The Streets

Tuesday, October 31st, 2017

One after the other:

I’m not used to seeing this number in this area, which I guess is the area from Bayshore to the Lower Third. Hundreds of RV’s parked all over:

Anyway, I’ve never seen this, in all my years…

Either Ford Rejected Palo Alto or Vice Versa – GoBike Rental Service Cancelled in PA – City is on “a New and Better Path”

Tuesday, October 31st, 2017

Ouch. This is how it was supposed to be, down StanFORD way:

Palo Alto expands bike share system with Ford’s help

But TWTATIN, see? Here’s the reason why Ford Motor Company ads won’t be rolling all over PA:

dfsdfdffff copy

So, not only will Palo Alto’s “bikeshare” rentals not have giant FORD logos on them, Palo Altons will have a newer and better program. Sounds like a win-win, considering all the baggage that comes with making a deal with FoMoCo.

Wonder if Ford Motor’s vaunted GoBike rental program will end up as three islands – SF, SJ and East Bay? (Of course, these blue bikes will continue to travel across bridges and tunnels from county to county, but that’s not allowed, you know, per se.)

(And as far as Frisco is concerned, it seems Ford is having trouble installing stations west of Masonic. Some neighbors are up in arms, mostly over the loss of parking spaces, and they hold a lot of sway in this town. Anyway, planned stations that were already supposed to be a done deal in the Upper Haight and on Hayes have stalled, and some Ford’s already given up on.)

Anyway, Ford and Palo Alto will always have the Ford Research and Innovation Center on Hillview.

Or not, either way.

I’m not sure how much the bay area needs Ford anyway…

It Takes A Village … of SFMTA Workers to Paint “Stop Lines” on Fell Street, In the Wake of a Recent Accident

Tuesday, October 31st, 2017

As seen this AM:

They must be repainting the worn out crosswalk, right?

7J7C1375 copy

Well, maybe not:

This is the result – brand new stop lines for drivers:

I don’t know how right-on-red will work here. Maybe you’re supposed to stop twice, once at the stop line and once at the actual crosswalk.

Hawk vs. Rat at the Golden Gate Park Panhandle Bike Path – Quite a Scene

Monday, October 30th, 2017

Story I heard is that birdie here had just caught a rat, but then fumbled it away because birdie was of afraid of all the people nearby. So it flew up to a tree limb over the bike path to wait for its lunch as passersby inspected the rat carcass:

Delayed lunch. Nose to extended feet was longer than my shoe, slightly. Throw in the tail and that’s why people talk about “twelve inch rats.’

I left birdie staring intently at the dead rat from above…

Our RPD has been struggling with rats in the GGP Panhandle recently, for various reasons.

Irate-Appearing, Window-Slapping Road Biker vs. Mercedes Benz Station Wagon on 7th Avenue : You Make The Call

Monday, October 30th, 2017

Here we go, southbound uphill on 7th Ave near Lawton (or Kirkham, one of those).

Oh, Gentle Reader, I almost def. have more experience (in terms of hours, decades, miles, younameit) both riding bikes and driving cars on these Streets of San Francisco than this emo roadie, but is this such a tough sitch to call anyway? I’ll say I’m 99% sure that the Mercedes driver noticed the backup lights on that parked car and was queuing up for a chance to take over that space:

So what’s the reaction? Whatsamatta you hand gestures and a left-hand window slap:

And then, the look back, always with the look-back. (Bad car drivers do the same thing.)

So, where should this driver have waited? In the middle of the car lane? IDK the answer to that, but some might feel that way.

To me, well, I would have gone around the wagon on its left, I would have “taken the lane,” if only briefly.

Just saying…

Just as Our SFMTA Endorses/Permits/Tolerates Double-Parking in Front of Churches All Day on Sundays, Here’s “Legal” Sidewalk Parking

Friday, October 27th, 2017

This kind of thing is allowed for just two hours a week, generally, during street cleaning times.

What I mean by Endorses/Permits/Tolerates is that there’s a zero chance of this ride getting ticketed over the next two hours despite the fact that it’s an automatic that two, three, or four Parking Control Officers will soon be driving past:

This is one of our SFMTA’s unwritten rules, but it’s a rule nevertheless.

The Reason Why Your “Diverse” Private Kindergarten Gets Less Diverse Year by Year – Am I a Kenny? – Oh, I’m a Kenny

Thursday, October 26th, 2017

‘Cause it’s hard to fit in, and the older you get the more you understand that.

So yeah, you might have a “scholarship,” but then you see the line of double-parked nannies, after school, every day, patiently waiting, some with ginned-up school-issued parking passes on the dash, in their Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismos or G-Wagen Geländewagens or even more umlaut-laden GL-Wagen Geländewagen, Luxuriöses and whatnot and then…

7J7C1365 copy

…you start to feel like poor poor Kenny McCormick…

…even though you’re not, not really, but then you start to drift away and maybe find another place to go to school.

And then your old school is less diverse at the higher grades, but it’s kind of too late to do anything about it now say the others.

Not complaining, just explaining…
