[UPDATE: Whelp, so much for that. http://www.sfexaminer.com/sf-county-clerk-catherine-stefani-named-district-2-supervisor/ ]
“SUPERVISOR MALIA COHEN CALLS FOR CARETAKER APPOINTMENT TO DISTRICT TWO SUPERVISORIAL VACANCY
Resolution introduced by Supervisor Malia Cohen will urge Mayor Mark Farrell to appoint a caretaker Supervisor for District 2.
San Francisco, CA –Supervisor Malia Cohen introduced a resolution to the Board of Supervisors urging Mayor Mark Farrell to ensure a transparent and democratic process in the election of a Supervisor for District Two.
On January 23rd 2018, Mark Farrell’s appointment to serve as successor Mayor triggered an automatic vacancy in the District Two seat. City Charter Section 3.100.15 grants the Mayor the power to appoint an individual for the District 2 seat.
Supervisor Cohen’s resolution urges that the Mayoral appointment be someone not seeking election to the Supervisorial seat in the regularly scheduled election in November 2018.
The resolution declares that any Mayoral appointment could have an “incumbency advantage” should they choose to run for the District Two seat in the November election, and acknowledges a preference stated by several Supervisors and members of the public for a “clean and transparent” election.
“We should hold each office to the same standard,” said Supervisor Malia Cohen. “This is about principle and good governance. A level playing field in the Supervisorial races is no less important than in the Mayoral race.”
The legislation will be introduced at the Board of Supervisors meeting on January 30, 2018.

(Robot Tax sounds like a Daft Punk record. Let’s hope ear of taxation doesn’t drive them back to France.)

Just saying.
This big old Airbus A380, which never really worked as an airliner design, regularly flies betwixt San Francisco and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Which is NBD, but the only way this beastly bird can make the trip is a polar route and that means Iran’s gotta give the OK NTTAWWT:

Which, as stated, is NBD but given the history, who knows how long this will last.
And actually, this is an extra heavy A380, the better to fly farther, but even so, it can barely make this trip. So there would have to be changes if Iran ever decided to not allow Emirates flyover rights. I suppose a smaller more efficient jet could be used on a longer route or perhaps nonstop flights bewtwixt Frisco and the UAE would come to an end…

Maybe we should install a 70 inch TV in this massive, vista-free wall running the opening of Full House, you know, looping every 1.5 minutes.

It didn’t used to be this way.
How wude.

I would have let the whole thing blow over afore offering up this tome to the general public. You know, maybe a year or two.
As seen in Berkeley:

(Don’t know why Nancy Pelosi couldn’t figure things out in a day or two. How long did it take her, a week or more? Oh well.)

[UPDATE: I myself don’t read this SFMTA notice as a wholesale elimination of parking on the north side of Fell, As Seen On Reddit. (That kind of action would be much easier for the SFMTA to describe – they would just come out and said that.) IRL, this is going to be a bit of red paint here and there AFAICS.]
Here’s one of the PUBLIC HEARING notices just posted all over the western Fell street area:

Of course there was the fatal accident on Fell at Baker last year – that could have something to do with this effort.
Apparently, parking in between crosswalks will be eliminated, at least on the north side of the Panhandle / the south side of Fell Street.
At first I thought that these areas might get used for UBER and Lyft pickup and drop off, but they’re on the wrong side of the road. Anyway, dropping your friend off in the Panhandle will be easier after all the red paint gets put down, sometime later this year…
“8. ESTABLISH – TOW-AWAY, NO STOPPING ANYTIME
A. Fell Street, north side, from Baker Street to 17 feet easterly (extends existing 10-foot red
zone)
B. Baker Street, east side, from Fell Street to 5 feet southerly (extends existing 3-foot red

Here’s the new sign for THE Portola, fka Little Jerusalem and The Flat.

(So, when you’re talking about the San Francisco district, it’s the PORtola, but when you’re talking about the Street in the Presidio or the Drive (what’s basically a continuation of Market, which as the joke goes is “straight until it hits the Castro”), it’s porTOla, but if you’re talking about the dude himself, it’s portoLA. That’s my understanding. (Oh, here’s KALW’s take.))
Anyway, Man, parking is a competitive sport here – ppl just circle and circle, and then they squeeze on in, thusly:

Of course, parking is no picnic in more name-brand hoods such as Russian Hill or Nob Hill, but in those places non-driving options seem better.
Look at this, free parking for laundromat customers only, which I’ve never seen before in Frisco. What luxury!

Anyway, ppl end up buying cars to fit the space they have:

And they end up posting signs on the topic:

And here – a brace of rusty rear-engined, air-cooled relics, all in a row, perhaps from the same owner. (I’ll bet this kind of thing gets discussed on NextDoor.)

I don’t hear anything good about MUNI down here, on the wrong side of perpetually-congested Hospital Curve. So how else should one get around?
I wouldn’t mind riding a bike in the Portola, but I prolly would mind the ride to get all the way down there. I wouldn’t know a good way.
(Anyway, that’s my impression. I know all about the northern half of Frisco, but The South? Not much at all.)
The solution would appear to be just having a garage….

Welcome back, Recology Raccoon:

*See Comments.
“This raccoon was a rescue. He was originally an infant who lost his mother and was sent to a rehabilitation center in Morro Bay. They set him up with similarly aged orphan raccoons and raised them all with the intent of releasing them when they were old enough. At six months they released him on a landowner’s property and within one week he was found shredded by some other animal. His back was mauled, his tail so damaged it had to be amputated, he also lost one of his digits. So, by the time all of his injuries healed the Center at Morro Bay felt he could not be released a second time. They began training him, similar to dog training, so that he could become an animal ambassador.
The Randall Museum had an empty space waiting for a rescued raccoon so they took him in. He will stay at the Randall Museum at the Randall until he dies and the staff takes great pains to enrich his life by training and toys, and replacing live foliage in his exhibit often. He is rarely fed food out of a bowl- they hide his food or make puzzles out it, to keep his interest and intelligence alive.
He was a wild animal that only due to his life circumstances now will spend his life at the museum. And, he actually may help other raccoons to be better understood or at least appreciated. That’s the goal. The staff at the Randall Museum want people to leave knowing more than knew when they came in about nature, animals and how that amazing interaction can be a lifelong exploration.”

My accident reconstruction capabilities, which were untaxed by this straightforward fender bender on nearby Hayes, are unable to make sense of this one on Page near Clayton:

This damage was caused either by a Panzerkampfwagen Tiger B heavy tank or a Mercedes Benz E350

Don’t know what this new thing does, or what it emits. Might make a nice street stool though:

Thank goodness I have protection…
