This Richmond District Mom Appears to be a Bad Driver – VW Shows Off “PEDESTRIAN MONITORING” in the Avenues – See the Video

Via your locally-owned and operated RICHMOND DISTRICT BLOG we discover this new ad for the 2018 VW Atlas SUV.

However, there’s something wrong with this driver if she can’t see this kid at or well before this point in time:


The VW appears to be 50+ feet from where the errant kid was soon going to be in the above.

Here’s the whole thing:

Not saying that Frisco pedestrians aren’t horrible, just saying that PEDESTRIAN MONITORING shouldn’t have been necessary here.

And just as we don’t want to lull peds into a false sense of security, we don’t want to do the same with drivers.

(And when driving on our wide wide avenues at 25 MPH or less, one has a higher safety margin when more towards the middle of this street, so she should have been more to her left, generally, assuming that no oncoming traffic was oncoming.)

(Also, no FLP (Front License Plate), which of course is required in CA. Unless you have your reg in the front window ’cause your new car is so new that you haven’t gotten your plate from the DMV yet, but the reg isn’t in the window either. That’s a MINUS 5 for Hufflepuff House, as you’ll get cited by the SFPD, CHP, or the SFMTA, the big three of area FLP enforcement)

IOW, I question the Hollywood crowds’ ability to show this safety feature in this case…

You know, for kids!

Man, I could list you similar upscale concepts that worked fine somewhere else only to die in, say, Union Square and, well, even Civic Center itself. In fact, opening up such an establishment would seem like “a good way to lose a million dollars.” Except if you pay the owner a million as a kind of guarantee, well, gee, that could incentivise entrepreneurs to come out of the woodwork, non?

So, just as our USDOT operates an Essential Air Service program to provide inessential flights of mostly empty aircraft, local do-gooders are helping to provide Essential McMuffin Service to Civic Center, but you know, in an upscale way.

But don’t count on Dolores Park-style ice cream availability – it’ll be soft-serve only, Brother.

You know, for kids!

Can’t recall the last time I saw such an old-school RESERVED FOR EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH parking space such as this. I can remember them back in the long long ago, but this is the age of basic Econ 101-style THE HIGH COST OF FREE PARKING, non?  (And I’ll bet at least one part of our GGBTD is very familiar with the concepts underlying that particular book, but obvs, at least one other part of the GGB Family isn’t.)

Now let’s hear from Actual Journalist Dan Brekke of KQED about the SFMTA Lime Bike Ban:

The companies, San Mateo-based LimeBike and Beijing-based Ofo, are among a handful of firms that hoped to expand into the city after the SFMTA began taking permit applications last July. But the firms were barred from doing business in San Francisco until at least mid-2019 when the SFMTA announced earlier this month it was granting an exclusive permit to New York-based Jump Bikes to place 250 dockless electric bikes on city streets for an 18-month pilot project.

And hey, isn’t it ironic, dontcha think, that one can venture into Civic Center from the Western Reaches, the Great Sand Waste of western Frisco and encounter more people riding JUMP!* rental bikes AND LimeBike rentals than vaunted FordGoBikes? And hold on, seeing ppl pushing stolen GoBikes doesn’t count, and seeing sometimes totally full “docks” of giant FORD**, FORD, FORD, FORD-logo’ed bikes sitting in the Western Addition, some for the whole live-long day, also doesn’t count.

(Is Ford Gobike like in the process of failing right now? We’ll see. Hey, is our SFMTA pleased with the low usage figures of the heavily marketed but somewhat unpopular with the populace GoBike? Well, not currently, but they’re not going to come right out and say that I don’t think.)

Anyway, ppl together riding LimeBikes in Frisco is new on me.

*By coincidence, also SFMTA-approved, oddly, in a kind of short term rental bike duopoly (the other half of which is the old-school “docked” Gobike program) that just got created by the SFMTA. But AFAIK, there are only 250 of them JUMP bikes on our streets so far. The usage figures show they get used on average 4.x times per day? I can believe that, at least for non-broken, operational JUMP bikes.

But Oak, the Great Eastern Way, a Freeway Substitute, well for some reason, our SFMTA decided to offer street parking to our tech-heavy newcomers living in expensive new units in a now-fashionable part of the Western Addition. See? No bike lane = stuck on Oak like everybody else:
