Hyatt Regency Embarcadero Shows Our Fear of, and Attraction to, the Number Thirteen

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Of course we hates the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero, we hates it forever, ’cause of the forever nonrevolving restaurant they have up on the roof, oh, how it mocks us, but leaving that aside, isn’t it funny how it lacks a 13th Floor

… but the name of the bar in the lobby is/was called 13 Views?

So, when you want to be safe at night, well, 13 is just too much bad juju for us to deal with, but when we tire of safeness, when we want to cut loose, put on our pretty shoes, and meet an exciting, dangerous stranger at a hotel bar, well, 13, that sounds… intriguing.

That’s the way it used to be, anyway, before the lobby bar closed down. Oh well.

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Let’s see here, who showed up to Assemblymember Tom Ammiano’s Open House in San Francisco’s State Building yesterday? Well, Linda Post of San Francisco FYI net for one. Here’s who she saw:

Attorney General Jerry Brown, Supervisors David Campos, Bevan Dufty and Eric Mar, Debra Walker, Ina Dearman, Jane Morrison, Anita Sanchez, Norm Rolfe, Rink, Roma Guy, Michael Goldstein, Maggie Rubenstein, Libby Denebeim, Roma Guy, Marie Jobling and Dennis Kelly.

So many people came that a traffic jam occurred at the metal detector station in the lobby.

District Director Kimberly Alvarenga and Tom spoke with constituents of the 13th Assembly District:

Well, it’s finally official. With 158,272 votes, Tom Ammiano has won the right to represent the 13th District at the State Assembly in Sacramento. Do you live in it? Probably, check the map.

This is how he started his campaign on Market Street and this is how he ended, at a thank you party with more than 100 supporters:

See how it went down here, via a report from able Joe Eskenazi. (Has Mr. Ammiano been on the scene for just “eight years,” really?)

Read a quick look back and a quick look forward right here.

Congratulations, Tom!

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Only in San Francisco would the end of 11th Street mark the beginning of 13th Street.

San Francisco MUNI TrolleyBus #7106 Goes On Its Final Run?

Friday, June 20th, 2008

First of all, why does San Francisco even have a 13th Street? That’s some bad juju right there. This road pictured below is “covered by the Central Skyway making it one of the darkest and ugliest streets in San Francisco.”

And actually, we’ve got two entirely different 13th Streets in town - the proper one in the SOMA (illustrated below) plus that other one on Treasure Island. We’re just asking for trouble, aren’t we?

Second of all, MUNI will probably get this 60-foot, articulated ETI Skoda 21Tr-SF TrolleyBus back on the road (eventually), but these Skodas seem to hitch a lot of rides on this ginourmous tow truck. Good thing that these bendy-left-and-right buses are also bendy up and down - it makes towing lots easier.

MUNI fever – catch it!
