The Departure of Weathergirl Christina Loren from KNTV NBC San Jose is Upsetting a LOT of People

Friday, May 29th, 2015

[UPDATE: If you want updates on Christina, as thousands of you do, apparently, click on over to this Christina Loren page at RICH LIEBERMAN 415 MEDIA to get all the deets – he keeps up with things, to say the least.]

I’ll tell you, the only time I’ve watched NBC the past decade is at a few Super Bowl parties, the ones I can’t/couldn’t host myself because … NBC monopolizes the Super Bowl every three years, like clockwork, and I live in the center of Frisco with only a rabbit ear antenna to catch glimpses of the vast TV wasteland.

Anywho, I don’t know why tens of thousands have visited this tiny WordPress looking for info about Christina “Loren” recently – I suppose they’re just discovering the news of her recent departure from KNTV?

Here’s a snapshot of the Search Engine Terms people use to get to this site in order of popularity, currently. See? Like, “WHAT HAPPENED TO CHRISTINA LOREN” ‘n stuff like that:

Capturejtt

Here’s an old post – it’s gotten hundreds of comments over the years, including a few from Christina’s household itself/Christina herself (I can’t narrow it down), if you can believe that, you generally “unkempt” Bay Area women, you “haters” both male and female.

Now I’ll tell you, whatever you say about Christina “Loren,” you can’t say she wouldn’t immediately boost the ratings of any Bay Area Station what hired her, when and if that’s possible…

Leaving you with a thumbnail of the most epic animated gif ever:

What’s This, the Sunday San Francisco Chronicle Costs “Only $3.00?”

Tuesday, December 30th, 2014

I could do without the “only” part, frankly.

What’s that, it costs $10 to make a Sunday paper and get it to you, the Reader? Yeah, maybe, something like that.

But even so, I could do without the “only” part.

Frankly

An “Urbanist’s” Dream: Here’s Your Chance to Help Plan the Future of the Clipper Card – It’s “FutureOfClipper.Org”

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

I had a Clipper Card once. Well, a TransLink, the Clipper’s predecessor. Turns out it couldn’t handle a little acetone:

And now I have no Clipper Cards, AFAIK

But you, you love the (somewhat racist?) Clipper. So why not help the MTC try to make it better?

All the deets:

“Help Plan the Future of Clipper – MTC and Bay Area Transit Agencies Invite Public Input

OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Where would you like to use Clipper, and how would you like to use it? That’s what the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and Bay Area transit agencies want to know.

Clipper is the transit fare payment system for the San Francisco Bay Area and is currently accepted for payment on 13 transit agencies. The reloadable card was launched in 2006. Today, the system has more than 1.4 million cards in circulation and is used for more than 700,000 daily trips.

Whether you use Clipper right now or not, you can provide valuable feedback that will help MTC and its partner agencies design the fare payment system that best serves Bay Area transit riders.

$2.99 per Gallon Gasoline has Come to SF – And $1.99 Gas in the Rest of ‘Merica – SFMTA’s Reason to Drive?

Monday, December 1st, 2014

How much is a gallon of gasoline at the Fell Street ARCO station right now? $2.99

And how about the rest of America? Well, some places are at $1.99 and there are more coming soon.

Hey, remember when the SFMTA used to talk about how people should take MUNI because a one-way fare was less than a gallon of gas? I do. Not too forward-looking, huh?

And remember this ad campaign, to teach stupid car drivers about how gasoline actually costs money?

IMG_6708-copy

I do.

The SFMTA has stated that increasing gasoline prices are a reason to take MUNI, so, conversely, would falling gasoline prices be a reason to NOT take MUNI?

Think on that.

IMO, the SFMTA needs to deal with its numerous problems honestly.

IMO, the SFMTA isn’t even coming close to doing this.

IMO, the SFMTA isn’t even close to offering, in its words, EXCELLENT TRANSPORTATION CHOICES.

IMO.

JMO

IMO, MUNI’s service is worse than a quarter-century ago, despite the dramatic growth in its budget and its fare prices.

So, real gas prices are historically low and the SFMTA’s prices are historically high.

Just saying.

OMG, I’m Confused: Rent a Tiny “Sleeping Room” on Page Street for $1250/Mo? But What About Rent Control?

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014

[UPDATE:  It’s back, after being hounded off of CL – here it is for the low, low price of $995 per month as of August 4, 2014.]

Or $1150, that’s the latest price for 1880 Page Street #3B. Excerpts from craigslist:

“Video Tour at http://youtu.be/8OEgeklUCDQ
Large sleeping room has newer carpet, sink with granite counter & closet. There is a shared hall bath. No Kitchen.
This is a rent control apartment.
Students, international students, co-signers all welcome.
Studio / 1 Bath in Haight Ashbury
Rent: $1,150
Square feet: 200″

So I’m thinking there’s gotta be a kitchen associated with this apartment somewhere, right?

Hey, what about 1880 Page Street #3A?

Well, I think I’ve found the kitchen.

Mmmm. It might be hard to believe but when we were deep into our Great Recession back in aught-ten, you could rent a two-bed on Page in the Upper Haight for a mere $1600 per month. See?

“Price: $1,595
2 Bedrooms
1 full Bathroom
650 sqft”

If this two-bedroom unit rented for $1600 back in 2010 and the same tenant(s) is/are still there, then the current rent is going to be $1600-something per month, let’s guess, assuming no pass-throughs from the landlord.

Let me now direct you to Topic No. 359: Section 6.15c(3) Petitions Based on Proportional Rent.

Uh oh.

But hey, maybe a new master tenant moved in to the two-bed just this year in high-rent 2014. In that case the rent could be what, like $4000 per month? IDK, I’m not up on things, pricewise. Anyway, imagining this, then maybe $1,000 or $1,250 or something like that per month is a fair price for just 30% of the apartment?

But then, no kitchen.

Uh oh:

California Civil Code section 1941 states that when a landlord rents property to a tenant as a place to live, the property must be in a “habitable” condition. (“Habitable” means fit to live in; “uninhabitable” means not fit to live in.) Section 1941 also states that the landlord must repair problems that make the property uninhabitable – except for problems caused by the tenant or the tenant’s guests, children or pets. In order for the property to be habitable, it must have … [a] kitchen with a sink, which cannot be made of an absorbent material (for example, wood)…”

Oh, and lastly, “SLEEPING ROOM?” Hey, you’re a naive international student right? Well, here’s your new sleeping room, hurray!

In the words of John Malkovich, WTF to that.

Or maybe Unit #3 used to be a three bedroom?

In closing, “Amenities:  Carpet”

In closing, never forget Kitchens.

How Do People Get To This Blog? With Queries Like “christina loren implants nbc” – Notes on the KNTV NBC Weather Girl

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

[UPDATE, May 2015: Christina is OUT at KNTV, per RICH LIEBERMAN 415 MEDIA – TV, Radio, Internet…dishing dirt since 2001. I’m sure he’ll have all the deets with a quickness.]

I’ll tell you, some days the Internet gets inundated with questions about stereotypical weather girl Christina Loren and some days it does not. I think it mostly* has to do with what outfit she happens to be wearing on that particular day, mostly. This is Monday’s effort:

Is this a job in bay area media? Is Christina “Loren” a journalist? Sort of, I suppose.

I remember seeing this ad three years ago and thinking, gee, this doesn’t seem very Bay Area, how is this going to go?

And it went pretty much like I expected.

Anyway, if you actually care about the weather, Intellicast’s radar can tell you if you’ve got an hour to get to the store and back before it starts raining again, so that’s nice.

*And I think that people all-of-a-sudden care about the weather this week – that’s another factor I’m sure
