First, the giant mural of Romolo was all like this:

But now it’s all like this – I haven’t been through this way since it got painted over, thusly:

Due to this:

“I’m done with them. That’s why the mural is painted over,” Sherry said. She said that during the 2004 restoration, which took almost a year, she worked on the mural six days a week for almost a year and was only compensated for transportation and lunch. “It was an absolute nightmare,” she said. “All they could pay me was coming out of their poor little pockets, so I accepted it because at the time I could afford to take a lot of time to do this. … So I basically just did the work, and they let it go to hell again.

There was a theory that murals discourage graffiti. I don’t know well that theory worked out…

And both these outfits don’t merit Wikipedia entries excepting for this Kevin V. Ryan hagiography written by an Interested Party at an Area Law Firm?

Here’s something:

“The Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC) is an Intelligence Sharing Initiative owned and operated by the Federal, State and Local Public Safety Partners of the Region.”

And there’s this:

“The NCRIC was established by the Northern California High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (NC HIDTA) Executive Board, combining the personnel, intelligence and investigative resources of that region’s Investigatve [sic] Support Center (ISC) and the Northern California Regional Threat Assessment Center (NC RTAC)NCRIC is an integral component of The National Fusion Center Enterprise and is one of 78 State Governor designated and DHS recognized fusion centers in The United States.”

(Hey, do “About Us” webpages from the gov’mint typically have typos? Nope.)

So what’s up with all this alphabet soup? IDK

I guess this is one of my issues, the width of the Fell Street bike path – I think it’s too narrow. It’s being used a lot more now than back when it was widened from 8 feet to 12 feet, IMO.

Anyway, this kind of thing happens all the time and it always seems to be E21 that turns up to haul people (and their bikes – it comes with you at no extra charge on your already quite hefty bill) away.

I’ve Never Seen a New-School LED Traffic Signal Not Working, But Here’s One – On Hayes Street – But It Got Fixed, Quickly, Via 311

[Oh look, it’s me being “upbeat.” WARNING: Boredom ahead – feel free to click off somewhere else.]

I’ll tell you back in the day, traffic signals used to get busted all the time, cause incandescent bulbs would burn out. Then we got LED lights instead – a bunch of little points of light, so if one two go bad it’s no biggee because there are tons of others telling you to stop.

Of course it’s possible for the entire assembly to lose its power for other reasons, as here, on Hayes:

I’ve never seen this before. (This is the point of my post, sorry.) So I called 311 and (unlike the cases where low-level RPD workers beg me, literally beg me, to call 311 to get whatever issue right on up to the Big Guy in McLaren Lodge the next morning) I got through with a quickness and then I never noticed this busted signal again, like the next day.

IDK why 311 thinks I need some case # – it’s like my duty is extinguished as soon as I hang up. It’s on you guys now.

(I’ll tell you, one time I called the 911 for a missing manhole (personhole? I lack the proper vocabulary, obvs. In my day we called ’em “manhole covers” ’cause THAT WAS THE WAY WE LIKED IT) cover on Fell at Lyon in the Western Addition. And 911 was like, oh, we’ll contact DPW (with the implication being that that’s what I should have done instead) and I’m like, thinking to myself here, uh, no, if somebody on a moped on Fell runs over this giant hole, IT’S GOOD-NIGHT NURSE. Ergo, that’s the emergency.)

Anyway, the System works, sometimes…

And here’s the response from SFGov for this this young woman, and this isn’t the half of it – you could hear sirens coming from every direction.

More than a dozen public employees quickly responded to this one, including at least three huge SFFD fire engines, one of our few SFFD paramedic vehicles, and of course the SFPD. This turned into quite a scene.

The clients are suffering, the systems are suffering, and it’s hard for me to watch my personnel (get) run into the ground.”

Phoning 911 in the 415: Why Do Some Calls Go to the CHP and Others to the Department of Emergency Management Services?

Per the SFPD Richmond Station:

If you are on surface streets in San Francisco and dial 911, your call will be answered by the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management Services. Once the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management Services determines what emergency services are needed, they will then route your 911 call to the San Francisco Police Department or the San Francisco Fire Department, including ambulance service.

If you are on or near a freeway in San Francisco and dial 911, your call will be answered by either by the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management Services or the California Highway Patrol Dispatch Center. Regardless, your 911 call will be routed to the proper emergency agency, the San Francisco Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, or the San Francisco Fire Department, including ambulance service.”

I’ve always wondered about this.
