(Boy I’ll tell you, if I were blogger Eve Batey and I was on the receiving end of a press release from an area business, what I would do is criticize other bloggers for giving free publicity for said business. Then I’d say that it would be better to contact said business, you know, to hit them up for an advertising deal. Then word would get out about that. Then I’d get criticized by members of the local professional media – they’d label such behavior “unethical” or something. Then I’d call out said members of the local professional media for being “haters.” Then, I’d have more my popular friends also call said members of the local professional media “haters.” If I were blogger Eve Batey.)

And best of all, the new Chipotle’s “Mexican” Grill at 2100 Market will have a MURAL DE ART PUBLICO.

I’ll tell you, the proper way to get a conditional use permit is to write a check for $15,000 made out to Alex Tourk, you know, to get the ball rolling. Then he’ll tell you what the add-ons will cost you. (You’re going to get a few add-ons, you know, like for pizza night at City Hall.) And then, before you know it, in a matter of days, weeks , months, or years, you’ll get your CUP and then open for bidness.

Dear San Francisco Planning Commission,

I support bringing a new Chipotle Mexican Grill to 2100 Market Street, the former location of Home Restaurant. This property has been vacant for over a year and has become an eyesore in our community.

Chipotle plans to do a complete façade remodel including the addition of an outdoor patio. The design, which includes a public art component, would be unique to our neighborhood and created with input from the community.

I also support Chipotle’s commitment to finding the very best ingredients, partnering with suppliers that raise their livestock humanely and farmers that respect the environment. These practices are consistent with San Francisco’s values.

Please vote in favor of revitalizing this corner with a new Chipotle Mexican Grill.

Dufty Announces Campaign Team

The Bevan Dufty for Mayor campaign announced its campaign team today. “We have assembled a strong and experienced team,” said Dufty for Mayor Communications Director Roby Chavez. “The expertise they bring in terms of strategy, message, creativity and boots on the ground – combined with the experience and campaign skills of our candidate Bevan Dufty – are going to give us a huge boost in this nontraditional election.”

The Dufty campaign is being led by San Francisco-based general consultant Michael Terris of Terris, Barnes & Walters who took over the reigns in February. TBW has run campaigns in San Francisco campaigns going back to 1988, including Mayor Willie Brown’s 1999 re-elect, Assemblywoman Fiona Ma’s election in 2006, and the Yes on G/ No on F campaign to revitalize the Hunter’s Point Shipyard and Candlestick Point in 2008 and Roberta Achtenberg’s 1995 Mayoral Campaign.

[UPDATE: Well, geez, Rachel Gordon had this hours ago but she didn’t use the words “boathouse” or “boat house” so I didn’t notice her bit. I prob. wouldn’t have made this post if I had known. Oh well.]

Here’s the news, right from the source, about tomorrow’s case number CPF11511130 regarding the contract for the Stow Lake Boathouse:

“ORDER TO SHOW CAUSE RE: PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION/ ALTERNATIVE WRIT OF MANDATE. PETITIONERS’ REQUEST FOR PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION/ALTERNATIVE WRIT OF MANDATE IS DENIED. PETITIONERS HAVE NOT SHOWN THAT THEY ARE LIKELY TO PREVAIL ON THE MERITS.

THE EVIDENCE SHOWS THAT THE RFQ PROCESS WAS CONDUCTED IMPARTIALLY AND WITH FAIRNESS TO ALL BIDDERS. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF FAVORITISM, FRAUD OR CORRUPTION.

THE FACT THAT RESPONDENT REFERRED REAL PARTY IN INTEREST TO A LOBBYIST TO ASSIST WITH PR BEFORE THE AWARD ISSUE WAS PRESENTED TO THE COMMISSION AND BOARD OF SUPERVISORS BUT AFTER THE AWARD, IS NOT EVIDENCE OF ANY IMPROPRIETY INVOLVING THE EVALUATION PROCESS.

IN FACT, PETITIONER ALSO EMPLOYED LOBBYIST IN PRIOR BID PROCESSES AND DURING THIS PROCESS AS WELL.

MOREOVER, THE OTHER ALLEGED IRREGULARITIES PLAINTIFF COMPLAINS OF DO NOT RENDER THE RFQ PROCESS IMPROPER OR INVALID.

FINALLY, THE BALANCE OF THE HARM TO PETITIONERS VS. RESPONDENT AND REAL PARTY IS OF EQUAL WEIGHT. MOREOVER, ANY HARM PETITIONER MAY SUFFER CAN BE MONETARILY COMPENSATED.

All You Need to Know About Lobbying, Recreation and Park Department “Corruption,” and the Stow Lake Boathouse

All right, here’s what you need to know about the Stow Lake thing (oh, more here as well):

The vote against hanging on with the existing tenant, the one what’s filed a lawsuit, was five to zero from those people who poured over all the competing bids.

So, the question to the hysterics at SaveStowLake is why did the existing tenant lose 5-0? Do you wanna say that the five were hand-picked recruits for ghastly pursuits, well, then, come out and say it, allege it. I mean, there are reasons the existing tenant lost, right? They have been detailed, in authentic-looking, hand-written notes. If you want to find corruption, I invite to look there.

(And of course, Supervisor Eric Mar, who seldom finds himself “in the pockets of the corporations” or wherever, stabbed you in the back or something. Fine.)

Oh, in other business, this statement from the Northside rag is a lie:

“The Ortegas even offered to more than double their yearly base rent to $315,000 and run the boathouse as-is, but Ginsburg’s cash-strapped department turned them down.”

I know where this idea comes from, it comes from the end of a hearing at City Hall, but you can’t quote a clause as a complete sentence, that’s the basic problem with that.

WhyTuesdaySF.org – OMG, Alex Tourk is Behind a Program NOT Called Something-Connect

Alex Tourk, a lobbyist and head of Ground Floors Public Affairs, is the official proponent of the proposed Saturday Voting Act. Alls he needs is about seven thousand signatures and he’ll qualify this baby for the November 2010 elections. And then, if all goes to plan, you’ll be able to vote on the Saturday before Election Day plus on Election Day as well, starting 2011.

Do I think that it’s some big deal that San Franciscans don’t vote all that much? No. Am I embarassed that our voting participation rate is “worse than Bulgaria’s?” No. Do I think that non-voters in America should be deined their paychecks for three months the way they do it down Bolivia Way? No.

OTOH, it wouldn’t be necessarily a bad thing to be able to vote on Saturdays as well as Tuesdays, assuming all the deets could get worked out. But As Always, You Make The Call.

Dennis Herrera’s Campaign – The Awesome Power of a Fully-Operational Mothership

This was the scene last night at Tosca, which was loaded to the rafters during the celebration of the re-election of Dennis Jose Herrera as City Attorney of San Francisco. He won with a Saddam Hussein-like 96% of the vote.

After seeing who was there at the victory party and the gauging the mood of the crowd, you gotta consider DH the front-runner in the race to become the next mayor of San Francisco.

The Awesome Power of a Fully-Operational Mothership - this was as close as I could get to San Francisco’s legal Tour de Force and his lovely wife Anne in the scrum of well-wishers.

Anyway, I’ve seen momentum before. DH has it, ’nuff said.

And guess what, today is VK Day – Victory Over Kellogg’s Day in the 415. Even famous John Stossel would approve of San Francisco today!

City Attorney Dennis Herrera today applauded a move by Kellogg to end its controversial recent marketing practice of claiming that Cocoa Krispies and other cereal products “now helps support your child’s immunity.”  
 
On Oct. 27, Herrera invoked his consumer protection authority under California’s Unfair Competition Law in a letter to the president and CEO of the Battle Creek, Mich.-based company in which the City Attorney demanded substantiation for the health claims.  Boxes of cereal prominently boasting the alleged immunity benefit had reportedly begun to appear on the shelves of San Francisco stores against the backdrop of heightened concerns about a potential swine flu epidemic.  In his letter last week, Herrera wrote, “The Immunity Claims may also mislead parents into believing that serving this sugary cereal will actually boost their child’s immunity, leaving parents less likely to take more productive steps to protect their children’s health.” 
 
In response to Kellogg’s announcement today, City Attorney Herrera issued the following statement:
 
 “I am gratified that Kellogg listened to our concerns, and recognized the obligation we all have to convey accurate information in the context of a serious public health concern like swine flu.  I know many critics viewed this as a cynical marketing ploy to prey on parents’ fears about their kids’ health, to sell sugary cereal as some kind of new health food.  Notwithstanding the health benefits of vitamins, prudence and integrity demanded this step, and I’m glad Kellogg took it.”
