Gadfly Blogger Michael Petrelis Deftly Makes USF Look Stupid on the Bill Cosby Commencement Address / Rape Issue

Here you go:

USF Scrubs Bill Cosby Page & Makes Statement on Degree

You see, back last year:

“The university was waiting for facts to be established by a court of law before undertaking any action.”

Man, that’s an absurdly high standard, in’nt? It’s like a Mayor Willie Brown standard, right?

Oh, here’s USF’s latest – a newer/better standard:

‘”The volume and nature of these allegations are deeply disturbing, and the University of San Francisco (USF) takes sexual assault seriously. USF leaders are closely monitoring the legal developments surrounding Mr. Cosby to determine the proper next steps regarding his honorary degree.'”

Ah, there we go.

But what’s this?

“In recent days, Noah Zimmerman, an alumnus of USF, unhappy with his alma mater’s association with Cosby, alerted me to the scrubbing of the communications office’s page containing a news release about Cosby receiving the honorary degree.”

So USF, you keep the webpage up but you delete its text?

http://usfca.edu/templates/ocm_media_relations.aspx?id=6442471715

I’ll tell you, in all my years, I aint never seen this kind of thing.

In the words of Petrelis:

“Quite odd to delete the body of the page but leave the headline intact.”

Indeed.

Oh, here’s the former text, right here, and what the Heck, after the jump as well.

Let’s see, how to close. Take it away, Mike:

“Meanwhile, it was time yesterday for USF to find its spine on their relationship with Cosby and finally take full and substantive stand on the allegations and such piling up against him. Two terse statements in eight months just don’t cut it.”

Indeed.

San Francisco Law Schools React to the New 2015 Rankings from US News – US Hastings and USF

Thursday, March 13th, 2014

Here’s the news, from a couple days back.

Let’s start with Hastings.

Here’s the reaction:

Rankings Update: US News & World Report 2015
US News & World Report magazine has released its annual rankings of institutions of higher education. UC Hastings remains among the top law schools in the nation, with a reputation score on par with the top 25 from lawyers, judges, and peers. In “Law Specialties,” UC Hastings ranked #12 in Dispute Resolution and #25 in Clinical Training. Nevertheless, our overall rank has moved from #48 to #54.”

And this is from a year ago:

Rankings Update: US News & World Report 2014
Last night, US News & World Report magazine released its annual rankings of institutions of higher education. UC Hastings remains among the top fifty law schools, tied with several others at #48. UC Hastings programs also rank in the top tier of “Law Specialties” this year, including Dispute Resolution at #9, Tax Law at #17, and Clinical Training at #27.”

And this isn’t from Hastings, but it touches on some relevant issues. From two years back:

LAW SCHOOL DEANS, LAW SCHOOLS, RANKINGS, U.S. NEWS – The Hastings Gambit By ELIE MYSTAL

Now on to University of San Francisco School of Law:

Tonight’s Town Hall Meeting is at 5pm in Room 100, Dean Trasvina will be discussing the rankings news; however, the majority of the meeting will be Q&A. Please attend and share your thoughts on the state of the law school, programming ideas you may have, curriculum changes you want to see, or anything else you have on your mind. The Q&A should start around 5:15/5:20, so if you have class until 5:20 you will still have an opportunity to be heard.”

And there’s stuff like this and this out there.

I imagine this situation is like having a twelve-month headache and thinking, upon awakening, oh yeah, the headache, the constant, nagging headache I gotta deal with…

For Shame: Costco Has to Mark Down These Lovely UC Berkeley Paper Plate / Napkin Sets to Just $2.97

Friday, December 7th, 2012

Costco #144 (America’s First Urban Costco) in SoMA chose to sell some Cal-branded  stuff but that turned out to be a mistake.

These lovely paper plate / paper napkin sets originally sold for over $10, at first. But not many people wanted them so  managers were forced to mark these things down to just $2.97, just to get them out of there.

For shame, Cal Alum, for shame. Have you no Spirit?

I’ll bet the bright red Stanfurd sets stocked at more southerly Costcos sold out at full price.

A: “Hey babe, you used to be a Lecturer at Cal, right? Don’t you want one of these sets, you know, for a party or something?”

B: “Meh”
