Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

I don’t know, You Make The Call on how wrong this Cadillac commercial is:

Apparently, San Francisco and Los Angeles are the same place.

Apparently, Brad Pitt just looooooves grandpa cars.

Apparently, Brad Pitt is a whore and his price is $3,000,000.

Apparently.

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

Hmmm…Nasi Gudeg!

I don’t know what that means, but it’s what you’ll be saying after you visit the Indonesia Day 2011 celebration in Union Square today, July 23, 2011, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Check it.

Actually, I didn’t understand any of this, so sheltered I am, so ignorant I am about the fourth most-populated country in the world:

Phone Home: iPhone Stolen on the Streets of San Francisco Pings Its Rightful Owner from Vietnam 2 Weeks Later

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

From @FredSharples comes this news: Panic Co-Founder Cabel M. Sasser had his Apple iPhone 4 ripped out of his hands while waiting for a table at a San Francisco restaurant two weeks ago.

Well, let’s let him Tweet the rest of the story:

“The good news? My iPhone 4, snatched out of my hand in SF (long story), just pinged, two weeks later! The bad news? http://t.co/ZBJ1J05

That’s right, it turned up in Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon, aka S S S S S Saigon) in Vietnam, per the free Find My iPhone app.

Check it. Sai-going, Sai-gong, Sai-gone:

But that’s not the worst part, oh no:

“Worst part was, I was holding it pretty close, waiting for a table at a restaurant. And *poof*, gone so quickly.”

(What a nice story – it’s like the Golden Gate Restaurant Association and the Mayor’s Office got together to write the copy, huh?)

All the deets here on the Twitter.

Oh  well.

Huge Vietnamese Website Rips Off San Francisco Photographer David Yu, Again

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Here’s the thing – Vietnam ranks pretty low on the list of places you generally need to worry about. Of course they’ve sent people to California to spy on us, but so has our good buddy Russia and a host of others and I’m sure America has spies over there in Hanoi as well, and S,S,S,S,Saigon too, or whatever they’re calling it these days. Fine.

But here’s a minor beef. Seems that a big .vn website, one with traffic greater than SFgate.com anyway, has no qualms about reposting a bunch of photos from Flickr after stripping copyright info.

Thusly. That’s not fair use, Dan Tri. You know, all that bay arean David Yu wants to do is add color to our lives, so it’s bad form to piss him off, right?

A typical kind of shot from DavidYuWeb:

Used with persimmon.

Should we expect more from huge profitable MSM websites operating out of our sister city?

Mmmmm….

Jannah, Serving Middle Eastern California Cuisine on Fulton, Opens Wednesday, July 8th

Monday, July 6th, 2009

At the site (if not the exact same address) of the former Korean-themed brothel Gabin comes Jannah. It’s at 1775 Fulton in the NOPA, just down the street from the candyBar at 1335.

And guess what, they’re hiring! Servers, apparently, atleast that’s what the signs said.

And guess what, they’re already five-star rated at the Yelp!
