Rebecca Bowe has the story of the coming end of San Francisco’s 362 MW Potrero Power Plant early next year.
Perhaps we should rename the PPP’s iconic red tower “Coit Tower South” and charge tourists admission to take rides to the top?
It’s a landmark now, right?

After famous Conan O’Brien performed at his “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour 2010“ at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium on April 22-23 he headed south down to San Joser. But on the way, he managed to put in a visit to Google’s HQ in Mountain View. O.K. then.
Well, he was simply delighted with Google’s Japanese-made Toto toilets. Check the YouTube.
Here’s an excerpt, click to expand:

Conan O’Brien’s 32-city “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour 2010“ delighted all comers at the sold-out Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium tonight.
It went a little something like this.
Friday’s show should be a hit as well. Keep up with the action at the Twitter via #cobnob
Bonus: the Masturbating Bear made an appearance tonight as well:

[UPDATE: OMG COCO is finally here. Follow the action via Twitter at #cobnob.]
Oh, it’s on. It’s going to be Coco a Gogo when Conan O’Brien’s “half-assed“ 32-city “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour 2010“ comes to the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium April 22-23. It’ll be just like 2007 all over again.
“Full Price Tickets” from TicketMonster are going right now for $74, all up. And for just $695 you can get in on the Meet and Greet Package- wouldn’t you like a photo of you and Conan to put on the FaceBook for all your “friends” to see? Sure you would.

I don’t know, maybe you can score some cheaper ticks by using your AmEx card or going to the box office or something.
See you there!

Here’s what you do – you check out the old trailer for 50 Cents‘ “gritty” new movie, Before I Self Destruct, or log onto Yahoo! Movies to see the new trailer. And if you like that, then sign up for free tickets. San Francisco’s showing will be at the Metreon in the SoMA on Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 at 8:30 PM sharp.
Don’t expect the tunes from the movie to have anything to do with the album with the same name, but 50 said he sweated the details making sure the soundtrack would be right. So, sign up now before all the ticks are gone.

See you there.

As promised, the free, “hella entertaining” Most Interesting Show in the World rocked San Francisco’s SoMA district last night at The Mezzanine. Dos Equis picked up the tab and brought a truckload of smooth, refreshing XX Ambar (Amber?) and XX Lager to hand out for free. Verily, it was “dope.” If this is how our corporate overlords want to spend their money during a recession, whom are we to argue?
See below to discover if this show is coming to your town next. If you’re in Houston, Texas, you can get your ticks now. Otherwise, you’ll have to figure things out on your own. (You had to go through ShowClix to get tickets in S.F.)
[UPDATE: Now you can get tickets for all shows by clicking on TOUR DATES here and then on "RSVP" for your town. Still a few ticks left in Fun Diego, I see...]

The crowd seemed to be in a good mood:

It’s Melody Sweets!:

Beatboxer Butterscotch accompanying what must be the world’s largest saxamophone – a purple bass:

The Human Spring!:

There were whips and crossbows in the house, but edged weapons were the order of the day:

Mr. and Mrs. G have a Mr. and Mrs. Smith thing going on, apparently.

Aiming a crossbow using a mirror to pop a balloon. Love hurts:

The whole shebang was a benefit for the San Francisco Food Bank:

This was the line early on going up Jessie Street betwixt 5th and 6th Streets. But everybody got in so long as they had their printed-out ticket. The Mezz at Triple Four Jessie appears to be a well run nightclub, with an aware but mellow staff that enforces rules without any unneccesary vitriol. Hurray!

It’s Tut! It’s dazzling! As you know by now, Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs has opened at the de Young Museum.
Now these days, you can’t travel without protection so what better Protector could you find than Anubis, the jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in Egyptian mythology.
And here he is, from far away, it’s 25 foot tall metal Anubis being installed up in Yelp-rated Pier 39:

Now that’s better. Don’t lose your head, A-dog.

This whole installation was quite the circus with circling news choppers and the works.
Now, you gots to install giant Anubis in pieces, and not do it the way they did in Hotlanta, GA. This chart posted inside of the hollow statue spells it all out:

Is this jackal a naughty boy? Some seem to think so.
Here’s Tut’s actual Anubis, the main man who was at the ready for 3000 years in Egypt. There’s a lot to learn when you see the Tut show in Golden Gate Park. And, bonus, it’s even open tomorrow, the Fourth of July, last entry at 2:00 PM.
And check out Cultural Encounters tonight at the de Young. See you there!
