I didn’t see the chariots this year:

Parts of Webster and parts of Post are nice and flat, so the intersection of these streets is a kind of crossroads for lazy people who like avoiding unnecessarily arduous hill-climbing in the Western Addition. Anywho, this is where you’ll discover the Good News of Eel Day:
I first read this as a reference to 24-7, but no, it’s just another excuse from Nijiya Market for you to buy and consume freshwater eels:
About the Ushinohi ‘Eel Day’ Custom
In modern-day Japan, most everyone eats unagi on the Doyo-no-ushi-no-hi (土用の丑の日). This year it is on July 24th, but it occurs one day between mid-July and the beginning of August. The simple explanation why is that this is the hottest time of the year and as unagi has lots of nutritional value and fat content, it gives you the umph to not wilt in the blazing, steamy summer heat.
The More You Know…
A couple decades back, these two would have been Japanese tourists taking photos of every random thing possible. Today, they’re Chinese (based upon the loud ai-yaaahs).
Who will they be two decades from now? IDK.
OTOH, these conventioneers might be Japanese – I can’t tell. But I can tell you that the tiny flash on this DSLR isn’t effective when you’re photographing the top of a tall building, as dude was doing:

It’ll be a huge cattle call the way they had for Our First City Target in SoMA on Mission last year.
But you should apply here before you show up, I s’pose.
All the deets of the job titles/positions you can apply for, after the jump.
First up is the origami paper-crane pop-up graffiti bombing of the McAllister wall.
Here’s how it’s holding up, last night…
…and the day before:
It’s persevering, huh?
Next up is the closing of the Big Show, check it:
CLOSING THIS SUNDAY
Just as this exhibition has touched upon the fleeting nature of life, it too must come to an end. An expansive exploration of spirituality, cosmic order, and the afterlife, it’s a provocative presentation of both contemporary art and older objects from our collection. The result is a one-of-a-kind journey transcending time and place. Phantoms will go out with a bang: everyone can see it for FREE this Sunday, as part of our Target First Free Sunday.”
I’d recommend showing up early or late on Sept 2, 2012. Feel free to practice your Gangnam Style while waiting in line. Speaking of which, don’t forget about:
Sunday, September 23
11 am–4 pm
All the deets on that after the jump.
The Saddest MUNI-Related Scene I’ve Seen This Year So Far – Historic F-Market Streetcar Driver, Post-AccidentMonday, August 6th, 2012
Here’s your accident scene* on Market betwixt Battery and Sansome on August 3rd, 2012…

…and here’s the streetcar driver, sitting inside of his streetcar, old 1811, pondering developments:
Just because the SFMTA MUNI DPT is corrupt and evil and the worst large public transit agency in America and it has spokespeople who are famous for lying all the time, just because of that, doesn’t mean that the average SFMTA MUNI DPT is a bad person or anything…
*Maybe there’s some blame to go around here, having to do with maintenance or procedures or maybe the Mom-ish Subaru driver went on the wrong side of Market for a while only to suddenly pull in front of the streetcar and slam on the brakes – these things are possibilities, I suppose. But, man, things don’t look good for this operator.
As it looked yesterday on Post Street:
