2. Improve transit operation.
THIS PROJECT WILL UNIMPROVE TRANSIT OPERATION ON AND AROUND MASONIC – THERE’S NO QUESTION ABOUT THAT. IT’S GOING TO SLOW DOWN THE BUSES THAT USE MASONIC, INCLUDING THE OCCASIONAL #5 FULTON AND #21 HAYES.
3. Improve pedestrian and non-motorized access to transit.
SO TRANSIT USERS WILL HAVE “BETTER ACCESS” TO REDUCED BUS SERVICE? I DON’T GET THE BETTER ACCESS PART – YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT A BUS STOP? ALSO, WHAT’S “MOTORIZED ACCESS TO TRANSIT?”
4. Increase the safety of pedestrian crossings.
YOU KNOW, THE PRIOR PROJECT MANAGER IS ON THE RECORD AS STATING THAT THIS KIND OF THING IS BAD TO DO LIKE NOW BECAUSE IT WOULD HURT THE CAUSE OF PUSHING THE ENTIRE PROJECT THROUGH. KIND OF SAD, REALLY.
5. Increase motorist compliance with traffic rules and regulations.
UH, WHAT, WITH TREES? IF I WANTED TO INCREASE COMPLIANCE WITH TRAFFIC LAWS, I’D JACK THE SPEED LIMIT UP TO 40 MPH. NOW, THAT WOULD HAVE SOME SIDE EFFECTS, BUT IT CERTAINLY WOULD REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF SPEEDING, RIGHT? OR, HAVING HOURS-LONG TRAFFIC JAM UPS DURING THE MORNING AND EVENING DRIVES WOULD REDUCE SPEEDING, IS THAT WHAT YOU’RE GETTING AT?
6. Reduce the number of vehicular collisions, especially those involving pedestrians and bicyclists.
HOW? BY PLANTING TREES? WE’LL SEE. HEY DIDN’T THE RECENT OCTAVIA BOULEVARD / MEDIAN PROJECT INCREASE THE NUMBER OF VEHICULAR COLLISIONS ON OCTAVIA? YES IT DID. HOW WOULD YOU EXPLAIN THAT?
7. Support neighborhood vitality by creating a more inviting and accommodating public realm.
BY PUTTING IN A MEDIAN AND PLANTING TREES? SO, LET’S TAX AMERICA, CALIFORNIA, AND SAN FRANCISCO TO CREATE A “REALM” ON 3000 FEET WORTH OF STREET PRIMARILY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE WEALTHY PROPERTY OWNERS AND PRIVATE SCHOOL(S) WHAT ARE ON THE STREET? ALL RIGHT.
You see, Octavia used to be a regular old street until Redevelopment (a bad idea from the 20th century) and the failed Octavia “Boulevard” experiment (a bad idea from the 21st century) came along.
I’d say that you’d have had a 10% chance of winning on Preview Night.
Realize that the scalpers and scam artists are going crazy right about now, so paying $29 for a seat what’s worth north of $290 IRL might strike you as a good deal.
Book of Mormon will play at our Curran Theatrefrom November 27th to December 30th 2012 and then it will be gone.
There is no way that the run of this smash musical comedy will be extended as the BoM crew will start up in Portland the day after New Year’s.
So here’s what you need to know:
1. This thing is going to be huge – everybody’s going to be talking about it. You know, because it’s ”the best musical of this century” per the New York Times ‘n stuff.
2. You want to go to this show whether you know it or not, even if you’re not into Broadway. Yes, Book of Mormon is profane, but it’s also “an atheist’s love letter to religion.”
3. Tickets are beyond sold out. So the scalpers and the scam artists are going to have a field day.
So that’s hundreds of dollars per seat for tickets what originally cost way less than $100.
So here’s what you do, you show up at the box office on Geary two hours early and enter the lottery.
At $29 a ticket for the winners, this is a steal.
If you don’t want to go through this kind of hassle day after day, then don’t do it because you are not a true fan, (The SHN / BoM people are making you jump through hoops for a reason, don’t you know.)
Now I’ll tell you, when they did this for Rent, back in the day, they lotteried away the two front rows for $19 a piece.
Good times.
Of course the angle was sort of ridiculous and you would see things you weren’t meant to see, but this was quite nice for students of the theatre.
(I don’t know which seats lottery winners will get – they might not get to sit right up front.)
THE BOOK OF MORMON will conduct a pre-show lottery at the box office, making a limited number of tickets available at $29 apiece; cash only. This lottery will be held prior to every performance.
Entries will be accepted at the SHN Curran Theatre box office beginning two hours prior to each performance; each person will print their name and the number of tickets (1 or 2) they wish to purchase on a card that is provided. One and a half hours before curtain, names will be drawn at random for a limited number of tickets priced at $29 each.

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 11, 2011 — NBC Bay Area today announced that it has added two investigative reporters to the station’s news staff, significantly increasing the station’s investigative reporting capabilities in advance of launching a new unit early next year.
Bay Area native Tony Kovaleski joins NBC Bay Area to lead the station’s investigative team after working at television stations in Phoenix, Houston and Denver. While in Denver, Kovaleski exposed problems with emergency services at Denver’s airport and uncovered inappropriate gifts given to government appointees. Kovaleski’s reports resulted in significant changes in airport operations and in tighter regulations governing gifts and travel. As the winner of the prestigious Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia award in 2010, the national Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Journalism, the Sigma Delta Chi award, the National Headliner award and more than 26 Emmy Awards including this year’s Emmy for Investigative Journalism, he is considered one of the country’s premiere investigative reporters. Kovaleski is a graduate of San Jose State University with a degree in Journalism.
Investigative reporter Jenna Susko comes to NBC Bay Area after working at television stations in the southeastern United States. She has built a reputation for quality investigative reporting with stories about poor oversight of FEMA funds across the Gulf Coast, mismanagement in a court system allowing criminals to easily get cases dismissed and security flaws at a local school system. Susko has a degree from Florida State University in Communications and English Literature.

“PRESIDIO TAKES HOME TWO PRESTIGIOUS PRESERVATION DESIGN AWARDS OFFICERS’ CLUB AND PRESIDIO LANDMARK PROJECTS HONORED
Presidio of San Francisco (October 4, 2011) — An innovative approach to historic preservation of the Presidio’s historic Officers’ Club has earned the Presidio Trust a Preservation Design award from the California Preservation Foundation (CPF). The award in the Culture Resources Studies and Reports category was one of two the Trust received at the CPF’s 28TH annual awards ceremony Saturday night. The rehabilitation of the Presidio Landmark was also honored in the Preservation category. These projects were among 27 winners in nine categories statewide.
It is the third consecutive year the Trust has earned a Preservation Design Award.
“It is a great honor to receive these awards from the California Preservation Foundation,” said Craig Middleton, the Trust’s executive director. “We take great pride in preserving the historic fabric and character of the Presidio and it is extremely gratifying when those efforts are recognized by an organization such as the CPF.”
The award for its Non-Destructive Evaluation Report, honors the Trust’s ground-breaking use of technology in preservation of the adobe walls inside the historic Officers’ Club. Using thermal imaging technology, similar to that used by fire departments to find hot spots or people in trapped in burning buildings, the Trust was able to map moisture levels and cavities inside the walls without having to drill into them or tear them down. Guided by these “maps” crews are now able to repair the walls using new adobe bricks. “This is true preservation and conservation at its best and it’s exciting that the California Preservation Foundation has recognized that with their award,” says Christian Wallace a Project Manager for Planning and Historical Rehabilitation with the Trust.
The oldest and most loved building in the Presidio, and the oldest in San Francisco, the Officers’ Club is undergoing a complete rehabilitation that includes the repair and restoration of all significant historic spaces, the construction of new exhibit space and event venues, and seismic upgrades and improvements to enhance accessibility for people with disabilities. Work is scheduled to be completed late next year and the project is expected to receive a LEED gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
While the award is a first for the rehabilitation of the Officers’ Club, it is the sixth award for the Presidio Landmark project since its completion in July, 2010 and comes on the heels of a Gold Level Building Design+Construction, Reconstruction Award. The Presidio Landmark awards recognize the Trust, and its partner, Forest City Development, for the rehabilitation of the former Public Health Service Hospital and its transformation into 154 residential apartments.
The Trust and its partners in historic rehabilitation have now won a total of seven Preservation Design Awards since 2000. Past winners include:
