Remember when our San Francisco Giants won the World Series the time before last?
It was back in 2010. Good times. I celebrated by climbing on top of the Memphis Minnie’s Barbeque Joint And Smokehouse Ford van parked on the street in the Lower Haight.
There I was, looking fierce bouncing up and down in my little black dress and orange pumps, along with bunch of other people.* We few, we Band of Brothers, we Baseball Furies.
Anyway, as the above link to Haighteration shows, the Big Pig, she got messed up.
But here she is back on the road in 2013, wavy roof panels and all:

I don’t know, I think this ride is worth more than it would have been without the battle scars from aught-ten.
I think this rig is now a historic artifact worthy of preservation.
Keep on keeping on, Memphis Minnie’s.
*Oh, not really. Actually, after watching on a friend’s big screen (’cause I don’t I have cable ’cause I want the Comcast monopoly to die die die) I had to ride my bike on up to Pac Heights. The city was electric, all over, not just in the Mission and in the Haights.

Except when it is a crime.
Actually, just riding your bike through the Fell Street DMV parking lot is a crime unless there’s a sign saying it’s OK to do so and, sadly, there’s no such sign.
Anyway, today’s show must go on:

It looked just like this in 2012, at the second annual. Good times:

Hurray!

This is the ‘before” shot, this is just before the time this lovely and brave lady took her first swig of Fernet Branca:

Click to expand – via FirstFernet.com.
As expected, she didn’t handle it well. See her reaction shot, and many more, at the FirstFernet.com photoblog.
Hurray!
“FirstFernet .com came out of a love, or more accurately a passion for watching behind the safety of a finely polished oak bar the reaction to people’s first encounter with Fernet Branca, a San Francisco favorite. One of two things would happen. The first was “Whoa, that was pretty good. Can I have another?” The second, and more interesting, was “why do you hate me, what is wrong with you, did you make it yourself in your grandmothers outhouse, how could you do this to me, I’m a nice pers… Oh wait actually yeah that’s pretty good”! The reaction of these people and their all knowing ever-so-smug friends that surround them in their moment of disbelief and disgust never got old for us and so here we are sharing with the world the wonderful phenomenon that is thee FirstFernet.”

Union-pleasing workforce training is in the offing now that Lowe’s ponied up their long-romised three-quarters of a mil.
(Let’s hope Lowe’s, when it finally opens down on Bayshore sometime before year’s end, doesn’t get into the business of selling City workers $9,580(!) BBQ grills like that one time with Cole’s Hardware…)

Now, who’s going to spend all this corporate largess? Young Community Developers, Inc., per this recent disclosure at SFGov.
O.K., meet the YCD here, and below.

The latest communique from JBHQ is an invitation for a BBQ in Meg Whitman’s backyard. Check it:
“A BBQ, Perhaps? We are disappointed to hear that Meg Whitman declined to have tea with Jerry Brown at his home. With a tip of the cap to Independence Day and an early start to the political silly season, I want to suggest to Ms. Whitman that Jerry’s offer to have tea could be substituted for a Fourth of July bar-b-que at the a public park in Atherton. We would be happy to invite a few nurses to join us. No big screen TVs, teleprompters or presidential advance necessary. Children on their best behavior are welcome.
- Steven Glazer, Campaign Manager”
O.K. then.
An artist’s rendition of down-home Jerry cooking up dogs for the Fourth. Let’s call it Atherton Gothic:

So, the ball is en su corte, ahora, right Meg? You’re already in deep, deep trouble, so what’s the harm?

This was the scene yesterday outside of beloved Parkside Market on Hayes in the North of Panhandle / NOPA area of San Francisco - it’s the 9th Annual Block Party for the neighborhood, with “MUSIC and BBQ!”
Didn’t see any bubbles this year, oh well. Here’s what it looked like yesterday.
This pooch was on best behavior and was soon able to gain access to the nearby burger. One chomp and it was gone.

A moonbounce for the kids

This one got a little too much electric Kool-Aid

Speaking of electricity, see this band? They were loud.

All thanks to sweet, sweet AC electricty – that sure beats a shopping cart full of car batteries.

There’s your NOPNA Block Party 2009.

The giant endangered parking lot of the Presidio Main Post. You’ll need to bring your bike to get the goodies. If you drive, then No Soup For You. Click to expand

All the deets below, and after the jump.
See you there!
Bike to Work Day – May 14
On Thursday, May 14, thousands of people will put their car keys aside and hop on their bicycles to commute to work. As always, the Presidio Trust will sponsor an Energizer Station near the Fire Station at the corner of Halleck and Lincoln between 6:30 and 9:30 am. Ride in to get FREE refreshments and goodies, and to sign up for a raffle to win one of two bikes, courtesy of Sports Basement and Honest Tea. Sports Basement mechanics will also be at the Station to offer quick bike tune ups. Riders who register at the station will enjoy a free BBQ lunch at Acre Café that day. Questions? Contact Chris Weeks at the Presidio Trust at (415) 561-5474. Visit the web to find out what is happening for Bike to Work Day throughout the Bay Area.
