You Ought to Go See “Get Low,” Starring Bob Duvall and Bill Murray. Opens Today

Friday, August 6th, 2010

IMO, Get Low is an excellent film with excellent performances from Robert Duvall and Bill Murray. I don’t think it will win the Academy Award for Best Picture next year, but it’s better than it’s not so that’s why it has a 100% rating from 18 top critics at Rotten Tomatoes.

(Thought it was a little twee to name the wood-obsessed main character “Bush.” Then I found out that the inspiration for this “true tall tale” was a man named Bush who became famous for wanting to attend his own funeral back in the day. OK then.)

I’m up for seeing it again. I’m sure I will at some point.

It opens today at the Embarcadero and a few other places in the bay area.

  • Robert Duvall as Felix Bush
  • Sissy Spacek as Mattie Darrow
  • Bill Murray as Frank Quinn
  • Lucas Black as Buddy Robinson
  • Gerald McRaney as Horton
  • Bill Cobbs as Charlie Jackson
  • Andrea Powell as Bonnie
  • Rebecca Grant as Joan
  • Scott Cooper as Carl
  • Chandler Riggs as Tom
  • How is the Voyage of the Plastiki NOT a Wes Anderson Movie?

    Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Now, I’m not alone on this or anything, but I just have to say that this whole massively-delayed David de Rothschild Plastiki voyage is looking more and more like a Wes Anderson movie.

Good casting for this crew, huh? Lights, camera, action:

(Now, please somebody video or photograph the actual Great North Pacific Garbage Patch / Gyre, if you’d please. As we know, the “patch is not a visibly dense field of floating debris.” So, it would be nice to have just one photograph on the whole Internet showing what the place actually looks like. You know, instead of more of this. Just saying.)

    Bon Courage, Bon Voyage.
