Gee, what’s wrong with appointed Supervisor Christina Olague, you know, if she can’t even get endorsed by her own Assemblymember?
Anyway, here’s the news of the day:

“Assemblymember Tom Ammiano Endorses John Rizzo for District 5 Supervisor
SAN FRANCISCO — Longtime San Francisco activist and California Assemblymember Tom Ammiano has endorsed John Rizzo for District 5 Supervisor.
Ammiano has served San Francisco for three decades as a teacher, civil rights leader, SF School Board President, Supervisor, and Assembymember. He cited Rizzo’s leadership experience, both with City College and as a Sierra Club leader, as well as his commitment to finding creative and effective solutions to today’s biggest problems.
“In the years I’ve known John Rizzo, he has proven his dedication to public education, a greener San Francisco, and civil rights,” said Ammiano. “He’ll bring the kind of progressive policy solutions we need to City Hall, and has the experience to get them passed.”
“I am honored by Assemblymember Ammiano’s endorsement,” said Rizzo. “We have always shared values on issues such as education and the environment and I’m proud that he supports my bid for Supervisor.”
The endorsement comes at a great time for Rizzo’s campaign, which has been building momentum through an intensive field program that has seen campaigners on the ground in the District every day.
John Rizzo is also endorsed by Senator Leland Yee, Supervisor Eric Mar, the Sierra Club, and other elected officials and community and business leaders.
John Rizzo was twice elected to the Community College Board and is the former chair of the San Francisco Bay Chapter of the Sierra Club. He has a proven track record as an effective leader in government and education, in protecting the environment, parks and Muni, and in bringing jobs to San Francisco. Some of his accomplishments include spearheading adoption of the GoSolarSF program which quadrupled the city’s solar capacity and created hundreds of jobs, and creating a “local hire” initiative at City College, which ensures that San Franciscans are put to work on taxpayer-funded construction projects.
As a 27-year resident of District 5, John raised his daughter through San Francisco public schools and is a dedicated MUNI rider. He is committed to fighting for our neighborhoods, our schools, and our city.
So, add that to this list of Endorsements:
The Sierra Club
Leland Yee, State Senator
Eric Mar, Supervisor
Jake McGoldrick, Former Supervisor
Milton Marks, Trustee, College Board
Natalie Berg, Trustee, College Board
Chris Jackson, Trustee, College Board
Steve Ngo, Trustee, College Board
Mark Sanchez, Former President of the Board of Education
Mary Hernandez, Former President of the Board of Education
Robert Varni, Former Trustee, College Board*
Julio Ramos, Former Trustee, College Board
Dr. Carlota T. Del Portillo, Former Dean, City College Mission Campus
Bob Cheasty, Former Albany Mayor, and Citizens for East Shore Parks.
Andy Katz, East Bay MUD Board of Directors
Larry Fahn, Sierra Club National Board of Directors and Former President
Sanjay Ranshod, Sierra Club National Board of Directors
Michele Perrault, Former President National Sierra Club Board of Directors

From the Harvey Milk Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Democratic Club comes news of meeting that I’m calling Avalos for All of Us.
Check it:
“A Citywide Gathering - Former Avalos Campaign - Thursday, Dec. 15th - 6:30-9pm at 522 Valencia St.
Following the incredible Avalos campaign momentum, what’s next for the progressive movement in 2012 & beyond? What can we learn about the state of our movement from the 2011 Mayors race? What should be common priorities for progressives in 2012? Where can we build unity & be most powerful?
Let us know you are coming. And let us know if you cant come, but want to stay in touch and learn about next steps – at AVALOSFORALLOFUS@GMAIL.COM. This is a broad appeal without any particular formal organizational form, so it is not a ‘decision-making’ meeting but we hope it generates the ideas – both political and organizational — that will continue to build our strength in the city. 522 Valencia is upstairs from the new 518 Valencia: The Eric Quezada Center for Culture & Politics. Check it out at http://518valencia.org/“
OK then.
Ah memories: Avalos for Mayor 2011 HQ on the day that the RUN ED RUN kids came by for a visit:

Sometimes things happen in town and sometimes people die. That’s the way it is.
Anyway, check out “PRIDE OFFICIALS THREATEN YOUTUBE VIDEOGRAPHERS” and
and then review the current hit results here…

…and then check out the threatening letter below.
Obviously, not every shooting that occurs in the 415 during the last weekend in June is a “Pride Shooting.” Obviously.
Anyway, take a look at both sides of this issue and decide which one you’re on.
Now, do I think that the San Francisco Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Celebration Committee, Inc. has been run poorly?
Yep.
Does it benefit in me in any way shape or form to say that?
Nope.
Do I think that the people behind Pride should be looking within instead of lashing out?
Mmmm…
“Dear Mr. Wilton:
I am General Counsel for the San Francisco Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Celebration Committee, Inc. (“SF Pride”), the producer of San Francisco Pride and the owner of the trademark “SF Pride, among other valuable marks.
The YouTube video that you filmed and display athttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOfz0zxDdNc falsely states that there was a “shooting at Pride 2011″. The police and the media have all confirmed and made affirmative public statements that the shooting that happened on Saturday evening, June 25th WAS NOT AT SF PRIDE and was not connected the Pride Festival.
For example, see: http://www.sf-police.org/index.aspx?page=3763&recordid=52 which quite clearly leaves out any reference to SF Pride or the Pride festival. And http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/local/san_francisco&id=8214747 which notes that the shooting was “blocks from the Pride festivities.”
Your YouTube posting falsely claims in the title and in the introductory splash page at 0:01-0:06. In fact, the shooting was NOT on the SF Pride festival grounds and was not related to SF Pride, or the Pride Festival, or any LGBT issue or concern.
You did not, for example, title your video “shooting in front of Apple iPad advertisement.” Nothing in the video has any connection with SF Pride or the Pride festivities. You simply chose to sensationalize your posting by wrongly associating a violent tragedy with the safe and peaceful, SF Pride. Your advertising harms SF Pride by that false association. It harms SF Pride’s ability to attract attendees and sponsors for future events by creating the false impression that the event and festival were the site of a violent shooting.
Your video constitutes false advertising from an attorney, trade libel, and constitutes tortious interference with SF Pride’s prospective economic advantage by associated its safe event with this tragic and entirely unrelated incident.
According to YouTube, over 3,200 have viewed this outrageous misrepresentation already. Specifically:
San Francisco / Civic Center Shooting at Pride 2011 – Sat 6-25-2011
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOfz0zxDdNc
The end of the video at about 2:27 in states:
Filmed by David Wilton
Law Offices of David Wilton
http://www.davidwilton.com/
(415) 669-4059
SF Pride demands that you at once do the following or we will take all other necessary and appropriate legal action:
1. Take down the above referenced video.
2. Replace it with an affirmative public apology to SF Pride for wrongly associating it with violence, and clarifying that the shooting on Market Street had nothing to do with the SF Pride festival, and was blocks away from it;
3. Pay SF Pride $10,000 in damages and costs. Any delay will certainly see this amount increase.
Very Sincerely,
Brooke Oliver

Here’s the scene at 5:00 AM this morning down at Daly City’s California State Livestock Pavilion where 2400 roadies (road bike riders) and their volunteer road crews (aka roadies, it’s confusing I know) just took off for L.A. in the world’s largest annual HIV/AIDS fundraising event.
Check it:

First-time ALC cyclist Greg and a bunch of bikes at the Cow Palace this AM via WeberSF

The bro in this shot from last year (note the fog – it’s a tradition) could be YOU next year! Why not?

From AIDS/LifeCycle
All the deets, below.
Bon Courage, cyclistes!
“AIDS/LifeCycle Begins as 2,400 Hit the Road to Raise Awareness and $10 Million to Fight AIDS. San Francisco-to-Los Angeles bike ride is world’s largest annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser
SAN FRANCISCO and LOS ANGELES, June 6 - A colorful stream of 2,400 bicyclists and volunteer “roadies” from nearly every state and eight countries left San Francisco this morning on the way to Los Angeles as participants in AIDS/LifeCycle, the world’s largest annual HIV/AIDS fundraising event. In its ninth year, the event is expected to raise $10 million to care for those living with HIV/AIDS and to prevent new infections. In the seven days it takes to ride to Los Angeles, more than 1,000 people in the United States and 50,000 people around the world will be infected with HIV.
AIDS/LifeCycle is a fully supported, 545-mile bike ride — not a race — that supports the HIV/AIDS services provided by the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and San Francisco AIDS Foundation. It also raises awareness that HIV/AIDS is a growing scourge that continues to have a devastating impact on our communities, especially here in California. More than 1 in 10 of the nation’s HIV-positive people live in California and California ranks second among the states in cumulative AIDS cases.
“With the ongoing budget crisis and last year’s horrific cuts to HIV-prevention funding, the money raised through AIDS/LifeCycle is more important than ever,” said Lorri L. Jean, CEO of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. “It’s important for people to realize that the HIV pandemic isn’t over and that there are still many in our community in need of quality medical care. The HIV services supported by AIDS/LifeCycle save lives year-round.”
Participants range in age from 18 to 82 and are at various levels of physical fitness. Whether gay or straight, HIV-positive or HIV-negative, they share a common commitment to ending HIV and caring for those living with the virus. So much so that each cyclist raises at least $3,000 (most raise more than $4,000) to participate in what many consider to be a life-changing experience. Since its inception in 2002, AIDS/LifeCycle has raised more than $60 million to fight AIDS.”
Ever more deets, after the jump.

San Francisco’s Harvey Milk Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Democratic Club had an endorsement election down at the Women’s Building in the Mission District last night. Here’s the upshot, via the Twitter:
“Harvey Milk Dems have endorsed Mandelman in D8, Walker in D6 and Goldstein for College Board. Many thanks to all of you who turned out!”

Get up to speed on the elections next month and next year over at the Usual Suspects.
And oh look, Rafael just made the Hot 40 Under 20 Hot 20 Under 40 list at 7×7 magazine. As seen in Duboce Park:

The 2010 election is only 370 days away, so keep these endorsements in mind over the coming days and months…

The anti-Prop 8 crowd in San Francisco has managed to express itself without getting arrested so far but all that might change on Tuesday, when the California Supreme Court is expected to issue its ruling.
Read below for some of what’s planned.
There’s lots of interest in this issue around town - here’s Market Street a few month’s back:

Civil Disobedience if the Court Upholds Prop 8
“This morning, the CA Supreme Court announced that next Tuesday, May 26, we will have a decision about Prop 8. A dangerous precedent has been set that any minority’s rights can be stripped away at the ballot, but the Supreme Court has the opportunity to restore justice and sanity.
“Our rights hang in the balance. Now is the time to act. Next Tuesday, join us for an interfaith prayer service at 8:30 a.m. at St. Francis Lutheran Church in San Francisco (at the corner of Church & Market). Following the service, we will march down Market St. to the Civic Center, where we’ll gather with our community to hear the Court’s decision.”
Tuesday should be memorable no matter how the Court rules.

It appears that former California Governor Jerry Brown will be a-Twittering away tomorrow to keep Twitter-ees apprised of Proposition 8 developments at the California State Supreme Court in San Francisco.
Also, he just released his thoughts about Prop 8 (in old-school “140+ character” format):
Proposition 8 Should Be Struck Down
by Jerry Brown
The California Supreme Court finds itself center stage tomorrow when it will hear oral arguments on whether it should uphold Proposition 8′s ban on same-sex marriage. The case touches the heart of our democracy and poses a profound question: can a bare majority of voters strip away an inalienable right through the initiative process? If so, what possible meaning does the word inalienable have?
Who will be the next to catch Twitter fever?

“The state faced a dilemma like this before. In 1964, 65 percent of California voters approved Proposition 14, which would have legalized racial discrimination in the selling or renting of housing. Both the California and U.S. Supreme Courts struck down this proposition, concluding that it amounted to an unconstitutional denial of rights.
As California’s Attorney General, I believe the Court should strike down Proposition 8 for remarkably similar reasons – because it unconstitutionally discriminates against same-sex couples and deprives them of the fundamental right to marry.
