Board of Supervisors President David Chiu Talks the Talk and Walks the Walk

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

Meaning that I’ve never seen the dude in a car except during a parade.

No no, he’s always getting around on his feet, or on MUNI, or on a bike.

Like this. This week in front of City Hall, on a very green Public Bike:

PWNED! Interim District Five Supervisor Christina Olague Gets NO ENDORSEMENT From Democratic Party

Thursday, August 16th, 2012

Wow. A supposed “leader” of the Run Ed Run Draft Ed Lee for Mayor movement, a person who was rewarded with a Supervisor position for selling out her progressive values, just got a big fat vote of NO CONFIDENCE last night, courtesy of the Democratic Party of San Francisco.

Kind of like this:

Ah, let’s meet some of the candidates for D5 Supe. So we have, from left to right, Thoughtful, Thoughtful, OMG I’M SO PISSED OFF WHAT GIVES THESE, THESE PEOPLE THE RIGHT TO QUESTION ME, Thoughtful, and Thoughtful:

Photo by Luke Thomas of Fog City Journal

Let’s check in with the reaction from another candidate, one who is accumulating endorsements the past few weeks instead of, you know, losing them:

I just spoke w/ Julian Davis and he is THRILLED! Level playing field! RT @SFCitizen@mattdorsey No endorsement for District 5? HARSH!”

And here’s the rest of the official Dem Party endorsements from last night’s meeting

Though comprehensive official minutes of the DCCC’s special meeting at California State Office Building’s Milton Marks Auditorium will be forthcoming, member and committee reports included several updates on: the upcoming fall campaign; the hiring of a new executive director; current party finances and fundraising plans, including an event centered on President Obama’s nomination acceptance speech; voter registration; the redesigned party website and expanded communications efforts; and amending practices to meet many standards codified in the Brown Act and S.F. Sunshine Ordinance.  The DCCC also voted on a vendor for its fall slate card program.

Public comments included numerous speakers advocating individually and on their organizations’ behalf for local candidates and measures; a monthly update on Organizing for America; concerns that the California Democratic Party endorsed Proposition 35 without consideration to official opponents and concerns from the sex worker community.  Two speakers called on DCCC members to address themselves to community concerns that policies governing the Castro’s Rainbow Flag do not comport with Presidential proclamations and other exigencies that merit lowering the flag to half-mast when appropriate.

The lone new business item was a resolution passed by a majority of DCCC members that condemned inflammatory and offensive anti-Muslim advertising on Muni vehicles, and called on city officials and MTA authorities to change policies to prohibit such hate speech in the future.

Members John Rizzo and Hene Kelly closed the meeting by memorializing the late Milton Marks III, a highly regarded Community College Board member and former DCCC colleague, who passed away Aug. 9 at the age of 52.  The meeting was adjourned in Marks’s honor.

Julian Davis Wins and Interim Supervisor Christina Olague Loses First Big District Five Debate Tonight – Meet the Candidates

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

Debate season has come to District Five.

Oh, here they are. London, John and Daniel, anyway:

(Does D5 really have the “best neighborhoods” of San Francisco? Mmmm…)

Oh look, lots of people were there with these signs, regarding the corrupt 8 Washington project.

But I think we’ll get a chance to vote on this issue next year so this isn’t really on the top of the agenda these days.

Here are the introductions:

Andrew Resignato - A “people-powered campaign.” Sort of looks like Ross Mirkarimi.

Daniel EverettOf Folk Law Radio

John Rizzo - He fixes problems, he has an engineering background.

London BreedShe was born in District Five.  She was born in District Five. She was born in District Five. One imagines she’s still turbo-pissed at Mayor Ed Lie for not appointing her earlier this year. She’s raised the most money and has the support of Kamala Harris and Willie Brown.

Christina OlaguePronounced ”oh law gee” with a hard “g?” News to me. (Does she have a cold or is that her voice? Wow.)

“Hello. My name is, uh, Christina Olague. I’m Supervisor of this District. I was appointed in January. And I’m very thrilled and excited to be, uh, serving the community as the district Supervisor.”

And then later, more talk about how this inarticulate person is Supervisor.

And oh, here’s the big pitch for supporters, which I’ll tell you I didn’t see any:

“We need your presence!!! Please come out to hold up signs, wear your Tee Shirts and pass out literature. All the Candidates will be there. We want them to see strong support for Christina Olague. Got Questions? Call 415-724-0136 – Shelley B. Bell”

So, the Olague campaign wants the other candidates to see Olague has lots of support? OK fine, if that’s the way you want to do it.

Anyway, she’s a big fat SELLOUT and that’s why she got appointed over a moderate like London Breed.

And oh, she’s lying about that whole perjury issue with the Mayor and Ross Mirkarimi. Oh well.

Thea Selby - ”I am super happy to be here…” Apparently, running for Supe is “hecka more fun” than you can imagine. And, apparently, everybody should consider running.

Julian Davis – “There are pro-development interests that are controlling the agenda of City Hall.”

This was the first attack against the Interim Supe during this forum.

“How do they get away with it? I’ll tell you – they get away with it by choosing your leaders for you. Over the past two years in San Francisco we have seen an appointed Mayor, an appointed District Attorney, an appointed Sheriff, and an appointed District Five Supervisor. Ask yourself is that’s participatory democracy the way we envisioned it? The answer is that it is not.”

Hope Johnson –

“…if those people are really representing you or if they are merely selling out to the highest bidder. And as Supervisor, I would hope to continue to ensure that government acts in our best interests and try to curb the abuse of authority some of which you’ve heard Mr. Davis talk about just a few minutes ago.”

And there you have it.

[UPDATE: Well, surprise surprise, Christina Olague got an endorsement last night. See Comments.]

Here’s Why Tonight’s District Five Debate Doesn’t Matter – Oh, and Let’s Mention Run Ed Run, 8 Washington, Etc.

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

The reason why tonight’s D5 Democratic Club (warning: links to FB) debate doesn’t matter:

Christina Olague is going to win the election, that’s why.

The reason for that is because she’s already been appointed to the job.

The reason for that is because she sold out her “progressive” values in order to get appointed. Remember RUN ED RUN? That was Christina Olague.

And hey, remember that whole perjury thing involving, speak of the Devil, Mayor Ed Lie and Commissioner Debra Walker? Remember how one protagonist spoke clearly and freely at City Hall and the other panicked and ran away to hide like a stupid cow? That runner and hider was Christina Olague, who said she might have to recuse herself from the Ross Mirkarimi vote due to, due to what? Due to somebody saying something? I don’t get that.

Anywho, there are institutional reasons why it benefits all parties concerned to host/attend this shindig, so here it comes.

All the deets:

Know Your Inchoate Labor Protests: Tomorrow’s Planned Commercial Office Waste Protest at City Hall Canceled

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

For some reason.

I’ll tell you, those canceled protests are oftentimes more interesting than the ones that go forward…

Check it:

“Commercial Office Buildings Missing the Mark in San Francisco’s Efforts to Achieve Zero Waste

Labor, Environmental Leaders to Release Report Outlining How Commercial Office Buildings Can Achieve True Zero Waste by 2020

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – POSTPONED members the BlueGreen Alliance and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 87 will join with local labor, environmental and civic leaders to release and show support for the report

Making Zero Mean Zero: Waste Diversion in San Francisco’s Commercial Office Buildings.

Findings in the report reveal actions at some of the city’s commercial buildings are hampering the city’s efforts to achieve zero waste and the report outlines recommendations to achieving true zero waste by 2020 — a goal of the city.

The report was prepared by the BlueGreen Alliance — a national partnership of unions and environmental organizations representing 14 million members and supporters.

WHAT: Labor, environmental, and civic leaders call for commercial office buildings owners in San Francisco to reduce waste and increase recycling. The event will feature Spanish speakers.
WHO: BlueGreen Alliance California Director Lisa Hoyos, SEIU Local 87 President Olga Miranda, SEIU Local 87 Members, Supervisor John Avalos (District 11), Interim Supervisor Christina Olague (District 5)
WHEN: POSTPONED
WHERE: In front of San Francisco City Hall”

So, do I think we’re going to have a million electric cars on the road by 2015, as was pledged? Nope!

And do I think that 10% of all trips in San Francisco will be made by bicycle by 2010? Oh, wait, we missed that one already – that got pushed back to 2020, when 20% of all trips made in San Francisco will be made by bicycle, for sure, like totally man, like guaranteed. (And then when that doesn’t happen, the new goal will be 30% of all trips made in San Francisco being made by bicycle by the year 2030.) Anyway, nope!

And now, do I think that all the commercial office buildings of San Francisco will produce “true zero waste” by 2020? Nope!

Anyway, don’t go to City Hall at 11:30 AM tomorrow cause nothing’ll be going on…

Here’s One Way, Just One Way, That San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee Can Get Out of that Perjury Thing with Christina Olague

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

Leave us begin:

Mayor Lee, before you decided to file charges for misconduct here, did you talk to any members of the Board of Supervisors about whether or not you should do so?” Kopp asked.

“I did not,” Lee replied.

Minutes later, a bomb threat delayed the hearing for nearly two hours.”

Now, of course Debra Walker could be lying or she could be confused or what have you.

BUT I DON’T THINK SO!

I’m srsly.

So what are we left with?

How about this? What if Mayor Ed Lee discussed Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi with so-called Progressive Supervisor Christina Olague after he decided to file charges.*

See how that works? (Something like, “Oh yeah, I was just patronizing her, trying to make her feel good by asking for advice.”)

And there are three or four other explanations I can think of that would similarly keep Ed Lee out of the clink.

Even though he’s lying.

Now, let’s hear from appointed Supervisor Christina Olague. What would she have had to say, if she hadn’t gotten all flummoxed and, you know, run off to hide in her office?

Either:

1. I may be slow,* but I’m ahead of you; or

2. RUN ED RUN!

You Make The Call.

*You know, assuming that he wasn’t previously nailed down on the exact moment he decided to file charges.

**Indeed, the least intelligent*** Supervisor we’ve got these days.

Does Board of Supervisors President David Chiu Run Red Lights on Market Street? Yes – Here’s How He Does It

Friday, June 8th, 2012

This example here is from the place where McAllister meets Jones meets Market, in the corrupt Twitterloin / Tenderloin / Civic Center / Mid Market area.

President Chiu stopped his Public Bike because he had a red light – this intersection now has a three-way light sequence, what with the recent changes for the 5 Fulton bus. (Note that this is the best place on the west coast to buy a stolen iPhone.)

A quick look up Jones (which is hardly ever busy) and he’s off:

Next stop, City Hall:

This is the proper technique of running a red light on a bicycle in San Francisco.

Strava fans should note that bikes in the 415 are for getting around, not for racing.

And bikes are especially not for going at or near 35 MPH at Castro and Market…

Central Subway Update: Aaron Peskin and Quentin Kopp Object to World’s Shortest and Most Expensive Subway Line

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

It looks like it will be up to Congress to stop the horrible, out-of-control Central Subway Project. That’s our last chance.

Click on the 13-minute video below to listen to former Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin succinctly make the case for killing this turkey.

And here’s some coverage from the local press:

Joe Eskenazi of SF Weekly: Central Subway Critics: Costly Boondoggle Can Still Be Stopped

Michael Cabanatuan of the San Francisco Chronicle: Reinforcements enlisted in battle against Central Subway

KQED: SF Central Subway Opponents Worry About ‘Blank Check

And oh, hey, what about San Francisco’s #1 Mayor Ed Lee Kiss-Ass / Suck-up, you know, San Francisco Chronicle writer CW Nevius, what does he think of the Central Subway?

Nevius: Chinatown subway plan makes me wince

Oh, but that was all the way back in 2008 and, you know, these days The Nevius doesn’t have the stones, apparently, to comment about this particular boondoggle anymore. Oh well.

Enjoy:

(Is Aaron Peskin a good public speaker?

Yes, Aaron Peskin a good public speaker.)

And oh, how can Federal Transit Administration leader Peter Rogoff get away with saying that the Central Subway will reduce trip time from 27 minutes to 7 minutes?

This is a complete fantasy.

Is he seriously misinformed or is he lying? I can’t tell.

Does he mean that the pink bag mafia will spend an average of seven minutes descending 30+ yards down into Mother Earth and waiting for the short line? Is that what he means? But that by itself doesn’t get you anywhere you want to go. It just gets you 30 yards beneath C-Town.

Anyway Congress, please, please, please kill this boondoggery.
