The Floral Dresses of the Bouquets to Art Opening Night Gala

Bouquets to Art 2009 is going gangbusters these days over at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park, as per usual. You’ve seen some of the flowers, now check out the floral wear sported at Monday’s Opening Night Gala (not to be confused with the de Young’s recent Mid Winter Gala featuring Miami Vice’s Don Johnson and Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, ably captured by the tiny Canon Powershot of 7×7’s Catherine “CBig” Bigelow).

Don’t miss seeing View from the Bay’s Janelle Wang at the de Young (“Janelle Debuts as a Runway Model”, KGO-TV). That’s the venue, avec 800-pound bouquet, now see photos of Monday night’s floral couture courtesy of Bree and Brandon over at Kuga Designs, a floral design studio. This is their effort, complete with “fierce” flowery shoes:

At the de Young Museum: Bouquets to Art 2009, March 17-21

Brace yourself, Bouquets to Art is coming back to Golden Gate Park for its Silver Anniversary at the de Young Museum starting Tuesday, March 17th, 2009. People journey from all over the state to see all the art-related flower arrangements. It’s going to be mega (like a smaller version of the King Tut-Mania that will start June 27, 2009), so get your tickets now.

Best of all, in the words of Homer Simpson, the bouquets at BtoA ”look like the things they look like.”

Bouquets to Art 2009, March 17-21 at the de Young

Bouquets to Art celebrates its 25th year in 2009! Bouquets to Art is the largest fundraiser held to benefit the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and one of the country’s premier floral events. In addition to the nearly 150 floral exhibitions displayed in the de Young’s galleries, the week-long event features an entertaining speakers’ programs, elegant lunches and teas, and a spectacular gala night.

Organized and produced by the volunteer members of the San Francisco Auxiliary of the Fine Arts Museums, and with generous support by community donors and museum staff, Bouquets to Art raises funds for special exhibitions, acquisitions, and education programs.

Museum Hours
Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m.–5:15 p.m.
Extended hours on Friday until 8:45 p.m.
Museum members–only night on Wednesday, March 18 from 6:00–8:00 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to Free Day at the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park on Wednesday, March 18, parking near the Museum will be very difficult. We strongly encourage visitors to take public transportation to Golden Gate Park. If you plan to drive, please allow ample time for parking.
