Observations:

1. Hey, does christian activist Phillip Anschutz still own AEG? I think so. And AEG still owns the Bay to Breakers civic street party and fun run? And Obama donor Craig Newmark / Craigslist just made a sponsoring deal with B2B? How does that square? I mean, I’m seeing “April 1st, 2013″ here. Am I missing something? You pay money to advertise a job on craigslist and it goes to Mr. Burns IRL in Colorado so he can use it to attack the concept of evolution? Mmmm…

2. Here’s something – one time Craig Newmark had to admonish “craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster” for celebrating the vandalization of my Toyota after it got messed up on Ashbury. That was a like a decade ago, just saying. Ill tell you, that Jim Buckmaster isn’t your typical wealthy millionaire CEO-type. Anyway, it cost me $200 and State Farm like $2600, oh well.

3. Back before Google semi-censored naughty images, this shot here was the number image result in Google Images when people searched for the phrase Bay to Breakers. The problem was that a local money-making sports website claimed it as its own. That was going too far, IMO. Had to put my foot down on that one.

The race will follow its recent historical route until you’re almost at the Finish Line. Newspaper Classified Ad Safety Questioned After Slayings

First of all, forget everything you know about any crime that occurred before Al Gore took the initiative in creating the Internet during his service in the United States Congress, forget any knowledge of anything bad occurring before the Web upset the apple cart, and forget about any possible “want ad killers“ from ages past.

Responding to an ad on Craigslist in a newspaper for a used car in East Palo Alto relationship got one man shot and robbed woman killed. A woman selling a laptop sofa on the classifieds site in a newspaper was held up at gunpoint in Vallejo raped in Burbank when she met with a prospective buyer.

Although millions of transactions spawned by Craigslist newspaper classified ads are completed without a problem, a small number end in violent crime.

That potential was underscored this week by… [the Craigslist Killer, yada, yada, yada.]

The high-profile slaying raises the questions: How safe is Craigslist are newspaper classified ads? And should the company newspaper industry do more to prevent violent crime?

Ah! It’s the weapon of choice of the classifed ad killer! Ah!

More than 42 million people used the site in March read newspapers.

[Nogoodniks] have tried to take advantage of the service by posing as legitimate users to find victims. Many users think nothing of inviting strangers they meet through the site to their homes to sell a sofa.

The frequency of violent crime on Craigslist through newspapers is unknown because law enforcement doesn’t track it. Several Bay Area police departments have had to investigate at least a few incidents in recent years.

Nationally, there have been at least four homicides related to Craigslist hundreds of slayings linked to newspapers.

Violent crime through Craigslist newspapers is in the spotlight following a series of attacks. Here are some precautions that can help users avoid falling victim:

– Insist on a public meeting place like a cafe.

– Tell a friend or family member where you’re going.

– Take your cell phone along.

– Consider having a friend accompany you.

– Trust your instincts.

Loneliest Job in the World – Selling Subscriptions to the New York Times

This salesman shilling subscriptions to the actual dead tree paper version of the New York Times didn’t seem to get much traction during an otherwise bustling street fair in San Francisco over the weekend.

Something like 75% off and free New York Mets swag wasn’t enough to tempt the typical passerby. Perhaps if he could promise that a fetching scooter rider, such as this one, would deliver the paper each day, things would be different…

Cue tumbleweeds.

Who is to blame for the decline of newspapers? Is it San Francisco’s very own Craig Newmark and his feisty CEO buddy Jim Buckmaster? Well, you old-school newsies should be tickled pink to hear that the people behind craigslist are now worried about being taken over by eBay.
