And in my day Avis was all “WE TRY HARDER,” but in these days Avis calls itself “zipcar” and it tells you to “GET A CAR AND GET TOGETHER?”

Getaround Rental Car Parked Just Outside Its Designated Space on Fell – Gets SFMTA Citation for Parking During Street Cleaning?

So let’s see here. The Getaround rental car company is now leasing formerly public parking spaces from the SFMTA, right? It looks like this:

So now, when a Getaround rental car gets parked on Fell not in near the designated spaces during weekly street sweeping time, it’ll get a fat ticket, as here, one supposes, to compensate SF for the harm caused society for not having leaves swept up for another week:

(As I understand it, the Getaround rental car people have promised our corrupt SFMTA that Getaround would be responsible for cleaning up leaves in its spaces – that’s why Getaround rental cars parked in designated spaces don’t get ticketed during normal street sweeping time.)

So, what’s the difference where Getaround rental cars park on Fell? Something to think about…

“CAR FREE” & “CAR SHARE” – What SFGov _Really_ Means When It Uses These Terms – One Weird Trick!

Here you go – “CAR-FREE,” as seen at the western end of JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park:

Is being without a car a good thing? IDK. The neutral approach would be something like NO CARS, or NO CAR DAY or NO CARS DAY. We should think about a befuddled foreigner in a rental car – what should be our message to him/her? Here’s how other cities do it, you know, in a politics-free manner:

See how that works? Yeah, JFK is a road through GGP, and yeah, people have been driving cars on it for well-nigh more than a century, but today is different. Today, this particular day, cars are banned. It’s NO CARS DAY. That’s the message you want to send, IMO. How about instructing these poor souls to USE FULTON OR LINCOLN instead? I mean we know they want to go west, so why not ease their befuddlement? Moving on…

To this – “CAR SHARE.” Did you know that “the sharing economy isn’t about sharing at all?” Let’s check the Harvard Business Review:

“When ‘sharing’ is market-mediated — when a company is an intermediary between consumers who don’t know each other — it is no longer sharing at all.”

So “car share” should be rental car or rent-a-car or car hire or something like that. Just anything but this:

Now why should SFGov favor one rental car company over another, why it should actively be promoting the so-called “sharing economy” is a mystery to me, but oh well.

Upshift is here, or at least it’s here in the Russian Hill and Nob Hill areas.

Here’s how it works:

“1. TAP A BUTTON – Anywhere in San Francisco. Get a car for the day with one tap. It’s that easy.

2. GET A CAR DELIVERED – Get a Small, Medium, Large, or Luxury vehicle delivered in 60 minutes. You drive it for the day & our driver rides off on a bike! Introductory rates from $49/day.

3. LEAVE IT ANYWHERE – Drop it off wherever you like in the city. We’ll come pick it up. That’s it. You’re done.”

So your rent-a-car will arrive double-parked at your front door with a green Bianchi or whatever on top and an inner-city sweathog inside. The Upshifter will simply hand you the keys and then pedal away.

“Mitsubishi Motors Makes First Fleet Delivery of the 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) to Bay Area’s City CarShare

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 8, 2011  — Representatives from Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA), along with San Rafael Mitsubishi, conducted the very first fleet delivery of the all-new 100% electric-powered 2012 Mitsubishi i to the California Bay Area’s City CarShare in a special ceremony held at the Green Vehicle Showcase located in front of San Francisco City Hall Plaza on Thursday, December 8 at 9:00 a.m.

City CarShare is a Bay Area nonprofit organization founded in 2001 with the help of several other local nonprofits and the cities of San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland. Their mission is to promote innovative mobility options to improve the environment and the quality of life in the Bay Area. By providing short-term access to cars City CarShare is reducing traffic congestion, parking problems and dependence on oil while promoting cleaner air and quieter streets.

“We are very pleased to introduce the all electric Mitsubishi i into our fleet. This vehicle brings us one step closer toward our goal of having 50% of our fleet run on alternative fuel as part of our mission to decrease carbon emissions in the Bay Area,” said Rick Hutchinson, CEO, City CarShare.

Numerous fleet orders have already been placed for the innovative, environmentally-friendly and fun-to-drive Mitsubishi i by a wide variety of organizations – multinational corporations, municipalities large and small, major utilities and nonprofit organizations – from New York to Hawaii.

“We thank the Bay Area’s City CarShare for being the first fleet recipient of our innovative 100% electric-powered vehicle,” said Yoichi Yokozawa, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
