Spring Cleaning Reminder: 15th Annual International Conference on Hoarding & Cluttering Kicks Off Today in Union Square

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

The More You Know…

“15th Annual International Conference on Hoarding & Cluttering Kicks-Off Mental Health Month in San Francisco.

SAN FRANCISCO, May 1, 2013  – The Mental Health Association of San Francisco (MHASF) hosts 15(th) Annual International Conference on Hoarding & Cluttering (ICHC) on May 2(nd) and 3(rd) at the Parc 55 Wyndham San Francisco-Union Square hotel.  Originally pioneered as a local, one-day conference in 1998, fifteen years later, it has evolved into a 3-day innovative, international, multidisciplinary and culturally responsive event bringing together advocates, researchers, clinicians, landlords and people who are personally struggling with hoarding challenges to foster learning and successful strategies that save lives, counter stigma and improve public welfare.

ICHC is the only ongoing annual conference in the world focusing solely on the complex issues, impact, and stigma associated with the disorder, drawing together stakeholders and experts across fields with a addressing effective solutions to the personal and public burdens that can arise from compulsive hoarding, cluttering and acquiring behaviors. ICHC features practical solutions, cutting edge innovations and emphasizes communities working together to better understand issues and promote the development of effective task forces, and engagement of diverse stakeholders.

May is Mental Health Month, and represents a milestone for the field as the American Psychiatric Association releases the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V) recognizing compulsive hoarding and cluttering as a significant and legitimate mental health condition. There is a three-part definition to compulsive hoarding behavior: 1.) The accumulation of, and failure to discard, a large number of possessions that appear to be useless or of limited value. 2.) Living spaces become so cluttered that they can’t be used for the activities they were intended for. 3.) The hoarding behavior causes distress and impaired functioning

The 2013 ICHC conference is a source of learning, but it is especially a significant and unique opportunity for the many people who are isolated by their condition. People with hoarding and cluttering challenges often feel alone, ashamed and helpless. As a recent participant reflected many people aren’t aware on “any kind of help at all.”

Horrible “Zero Graffiti” Non-Profit from Livermore Ironically Hosts Graffito on Market Street

Hey, what’s “ZERO GRAFFITI INTERNATIONAL?”

It’s an “international” anti-graffiti convention that’ll have fewer attendees than passengers on the bus you can see on the left.

Hey, why do we have those giant ads sitting on the sidewalks of Market?

Was it part of a corrupt public-private deal involving former Mayor Willie Brown?

Yep.

And he appointed Gavin Newsom and Gavin Newsom appointed Ed Lee?

Yep.

And let’s see here, we have a stupid “film” dedicated to corrupt DPW Department Head Mohammed Nuru?

Check.

And the “preferred” airport shuttle service is the corrupt GO Lorries?

Of course.

Is the keynote speaker going to be Rod Blagojevich?

Who knows…

Judges under fire for Maui conference have history of tropical getaways

All the deets, ROF (Released on a Friday):

“July 13, 2012 / Ninth Circuit Public Information Office – The Ninth Circuit will reschedule its 2013 Circuit Conference to 2014 in Monterey, California. The postponement responds to the current budget constraints facing the federal judiciary and the federal government in general. The decision was reached earlier this week after consultation with the host hotel in Monterey, the Hyatt Regency.

“We firmly believe in the importance of the Conference in educating the federal bench and bar and in advancing governance of the Circuit. But we also recognize the need to conserve financial resources during the present fiscal crisis,” said Cathy A. Catterson, Circuit and Court of Appeals Executive. “We think this approach will meet both goals.”

The Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference has been held annually since 1944. Conferees include federal judges, lawyers, court staff, academics and government officials. The event provides a rich educational program and the opportunity to hold numerous business meetings.”

Eric Mar is En Route to Become Your District One Supervisor Once Again – His Reelection Campaign Kicks Off Today at City Hall

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

Remember four years ago when I told you about how Eric Mar was En Route to Become District One Supervisor?

Well, it’s happening again. Deets below:

“Supervisor Eric Mar to File for Re-Election

SAN FRANCISCO (March 21, 2012): Tomorrow morning, San Francisco Board of Supervisors member Eric Mar will file his re-election papers for the November 2012 election.

WHO: Supervisor Eric Mar and a small group of family, community leaders, and supporters, including UESF President Dennis Kelly, Richmond Democratic Club leader Hene Kelly, SEIU 1021 representative Michael Tong, Mar Family Association President Michael Mar, senior activist Vera Haile, USF student leader Alia Al-Sharif, and community leaders Gordon Mar, Charles Chow and Lin Shao Chin.

WHAT: Supervisor Eric Mar will file his re-election papers and begin his campaign to continue to represent District 1 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

Supervisor Eric Mar will also hold a large Community Launch Rally on Saturday, April 21st at 12:00 pm at Rossi Playground in the Richmond.

WHERE: San Francisco City Hall, Department of Elections, Room 48

WHEN: Thursday, March 22nd, 10:00 am”

OK then.

But once again, “Downtown” will put money up against him. Here’s the line-up per The Usual Suspects, San Francisco’s Political Home Page Since 1995:

Board of Supervisors – District 1 (Incumbent: Eric Mar)
Declared: Eric Mar
Rumored: David Lee, Rodney Fong

And once again, Downtown will lose. Maybe they’ll have better luck four years from now.

In the meantime, The Richmond will continue to heart Eric Mar:

Don’t Forget, the KRAFT Fight Hunger Bowl is Almost Here – Tickets Still Available for December 31st Game

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

There’s was some news conference yesterday that nobody told me about so oh well.

But find out all about it after the jump.

Now, which squad do you think will win on Saturday? The Bruins…

…or the Illini?

It’s like $25 for a cheap seat – you can afford that, right?

See you there!

Google Offers Offers KRAFT Fight Hunger Bowl Tickets for Just $36! UCLA Bruins vs. the Illinois Fighting Illini at the AT&T

All the deets, after the jump.

It’s Official: It’ll be the UCLA Bruins vs. the Illinois Fighting Illini at the “KRAFT Fight Hunger Bowl” Dec 31 at AT&T Park

Monday, December 5th, 2011

See? This is the news that came out last night:

Get all the deets after the jump, but before that, see me try to puzzle out who would play from five days back:

The annual Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl (that new name is starting to sound normal to me already) is a coming to the Phone Booth on Saturday, December 31st, 2011.

Where else will you watch an NCAA bowl game in NorCal?

Get your tickets now

Oh, what’s that, you want to know who’s playing this year? Well, let’s look to the past:

2010 — Nevada 20, Boston College 13
2009 — USC 24, Boston College 13
2008 — California 24, Miami 17
2007 — Oregon State 21, Maryland 14
2006 — Florida State 44, UCLA 27
2005 — Utah 38, Georgia Tech 10
2004 — Navy 34, New Mexico 19
2003 — Boston College 35, Colorado State 21
2002 — Virginia Tech 20, Air Force 13

As you can see, sort of, there’s gotta be a Pac-12 team on the field – that’s current rule.

Here’s one stab at it:

“Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl
December 31, 2011 San Francisco, CA, 3:30 pm ESPN
Payout: $1.675 million
Pac-12 No. 6 vs. Army (WAC if Army not available)”

But it looks like their prediction has recently changed, based on this:

“Scout’s 2011 bowl prediction for the Illini has them heading out San Francisco to participate in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. There, Scout predicts, the Illini would take on the UCLA Bruins, who would be 6-7 on the season and also likely minus its coach as well. Two teams with a combined record of 12-13 and without head coaches doesn’t exactly sound like the most appetizing match up, but such is one of the downsides of the current bowl system.”

So, as recently as yesterday, some people were thinking it could be this squad…

…versus this one, the crew from Illinois. (You know, they’re looking for men, as always.)

All right, see you there!

All right, all the deets after the jump
