Private Security Patrols in San Francisco? This Car Looks Official, But It’s Not

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

Usually, the private security patrols I see are in economy cars with the name of the company prominently displayed.

This car is meant to trick people into thinking a peace officer is inside and/or impress clients.

Anyway, this is unusual in the 415…

Mopar Madness: Sighting a Chrysler-Supplied Dodge Charger Police Car in SF – Hey SFPD, That Thing Got A Hemi?

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

Remember back five years ago, when the SFPD pined for Chrysler products?

As seen in 2008

Well, it’s happening, man. It’s finally happening.

Sighted yesterday in Randy Shaw’s corrupt Twitterloin / corrupt Microsoft Yammerloin, here’s my white whale, a Dodge Charger in SFPD livery

Is this a one-off, merely a test? Or is it the start of a flood of SFPD radio cars what aren’t Ford Crown Victorias?

I know not.

Anyway, this is a shock after seeing decades of Crown Vics prowling the 415.

Does anybody know?

Why is This Lady CHP Officer Standing on the Central Freeway? The Better to Stop and/or Tase You

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013

I have no idea how anyone could think that it was a good idea to end America’s primary east-west interstate freeway at Market and Octavia, but that’s what we have with the two-lane Central Freeway off-ramp these days.

Anyway right at the end of the off-ramp, the shoulder turns into a right-turn-only lane. And that’s right where this California Highway Patrol officer was standing the other day, with her prowler blocking your path.

Thusly.

“The current standard issue firearm for CHP officers is the Smith & Wesson Model 4006 TSW in .40 S&W. Each CHP patrol car is equipped with a Remington 870 Police 12‑gauge shotgun and a Colt AR‑15A2 in .223. Additionally, some officers are authorized to carry a taser.” If she has a Taser, she would be carrying it like this.

So I guess she was looking for CVC 21755 Pass on Right Safely violators?

Due to the perpetually congested traffic conditions there’s no place for you to hide after seeing the black and white Crown Vic.

It’s a living.

Anyway, I’ve never seen this kind of law enforcement technique of standing about on a freeway and waiting for the perps…

Merry part.

Street Justice, Frisco Style: Former San Francisco Taxicab Takes Up Two Parking Spaces on Fell, Pays a Price

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Let’s see here, the penalty for parking a Mercury Grand Marquis (aka Ford Crown Victoria) on the mean streets of San Francisco is, assuming that you carelessly take up two spaces, this:

See? This car was clean when it was parked here last week.

Damage report: A little paintball action, both yellow and blue, plus messages on the windows, plus a bidness card listing your crime tucked in the driver’s window, plus a pair of way-too-low-pressure tires on the left side (owing to some miscreant letting the air out.)

I cry foul, on the vigilantes…

UPDATE: Le mise-en-scene, for those who care. Probably hundreds of frustrated drivers passed by this scene whilst looking for free parking this past week. I’ll note that the driver of the Toyota RAV4 cute-ute is far braver than I, ’cause parking a car with its nose in a crosswalk, well, that’s a paddling right there, or a $100 ticket or something…

Yes, a real American V-8 police interceptor - let’s take a photo!

I guess the SFPD wants you to think twice before coming down Market Street illegally, so they have an empty radio car posted betwixt 5th and 6th like all the time…

Our Seemingly-Always-Muddy Golden Gate Park Panhandle is Quite Muddy These Days, As Per Usual

Monday, December 27th, 2010

Did a Rec and Park cart get stuck in the middle of the Panhandle again? Sure looks that way from this photo, ’cause as we learned from My Cousin Vinny, tire tracks don’t lie.

Instead of working on aesthetics all the time,  why doesn’t the PRD work on tasks they’re supposed to work on, like drainage ‘n stuff?

Just asking, bro.

The Middle of the Golden Gate Panhandle is Turning Into a Bog, But Don’t Let That Stop Your Frisbee Football Game

Friday, October 8th, 2010

So, when you see all them “AREA CLOSED” signs,  just consider them to mean, “AREA RESERVED FOR PICKUP GAMES OF FRISBEE FOOTBALL ONLY.”

But don’t park your rear-wheel-drive vehicle anywhere near the middle of the Panhandle, else the bog will eat it up. For instance, SFPD prowlers (aka radio cars, aka cruisers) patrolling the GGP get bogged down in La Brea North all the time. See?

I don’t think our Panhandle wants to be a dry, grassy meadow…
