UCSF is finally getting off its ass and doing something about all those eucalyptus trees and this is the response?
I cry foul.
Now, leaving aside the fact that the Mount Sutro “cloud forest” aint a cloud forest and it aint a forest* neither, UCSF does stuff.
What do the whiny millionaire NIMBY neighbors of UCSF do? Nothing.
Advantage: UCSF.
Of course, there are impoverished hippies who similarly oppose UCSF doing anything to manage this area, so I’m going to look into this when I can.
But the assumption is:
WHY SHOULDN’T UCSF BE ABLE TO MANAGE ITS LAND?
See? UCSF does stuff. What do YOU do?

Remember this guy from a little while back, this Stephen Fowler asshole?
Here’s the notorious video. (Man that planning commish hearing about a certain place in Noe Valley just went on and on, huh? And hey, I wonder who ratted out that long-time Asian American dude* who lost his rental in NV owing to the lack of an Occupancy Permit? Mmmm… Anyway, Mr. Fowler is still reviled in Noe Valley.)
And before that, there was this one. Whew, good times.
And now there’s this, a new allegation that Stephen Fowler had something to do with these Marin County trees getting hacked (to death?) up in Mill Valley.

As always, We Report, You Decide.
I mean, maybe this tale is completely made up, you know, the way people would make up stories about Mussolini having a devil’s tail, you know, sometimes people decide to not like you and then they’ll just start making stuff up.
Here they are, the allegations:
“Just wanted to pass along another example of Wife-Swapping Stephen Fowler’s example of hypocrisy. He purchased a home this spring in Mill Valley, 317 Hillside for $800,000, tore it down and is now building a 3.5 million $$ spec house to flip. When the bank foreclosed on his neighbor at 300 Hillside across the street this spring, Stephen approached the owner, a general contractor at the time, a few days before the bank took the house away and paid the home owner to have a few of his employees illegally climb 10 Heritage Redwood trees, cut 20-30 feet off the tops of them thus freeing up the view of San Francisco for Stephens new house project. For a self proclaimed tree hugger, he has balls. See the photo’s of just a few of the trees…”
Now, didn’t S. Fowler go on the TV to promote environmental awareness? I think so.
And didn’t he have all these kinds of shirts on – who made them, one wonders. Who forced poor Mr. Fowler into doing things he didn’t want to and saying things he didn’t want to say?

Anyway, somebody up Marin way might want to look into these tree allegations.
But remember, S Fowler makes more in one week than you do in one year!
*Robert Hanamura – whatever happened to that guy?

Park your ride on stair railings at the new Metreon and this is what will happen – you’ll get a note like this taped on:

Here’s your mise-en-scene with legally parked bikes in the foreground and illegally parked bikes in the background:

See them all? Every bike has a note. (How many reams of paper does the Metreon go through in a week?)
Obviously, there’s no more parking spaces left on the north side, Metreon.
Why not put this on your list of things to do, Metreon? More bike parking near Mission where it’ll get used…

See?
That heavy-duty chain and tiny U-lock probably outweigh this wooden push-bike:

Those “Jews for the Rights of the Child,” you know, part of the crowd behind the unconstitutional* effort to ban circumcision in the 415, are not giving up, despite, you know, their recent setback.
I say that because this oddly-worded poster in the Western Addition has just been replaced with two much better looking posters that transmit pretty much the same message.

Anyway, this effort has not ended – you’ve been warned.
“Welcome to our new organization, Jews for the Rights of the Child.
We have been Jewish Intactivists for many years, passionately working to educate people on the harms of circumcision. For example, we encourage people to replace the harsh Brit Milah with a peaceful naming ceremony such as Brit Shalom.
When the San Francisco MGM Bill was proposed, we both realized that we too would like to see the circumcision of unconsenting minors actually OUTLAWED — yes, even for Jews (and Muslims etc).
We realize this is a radical position.
We will be writing about how and why we each came to this position, and what we are doing about it.
Meanwhile check out Beyond the Bris and other Jewish Intactivist sites.
Check back soon!

Check it, this aging Schwinn Varsity ten-speed has a U-lock for the frame and front wheel, a cable lock for the rear wheel, but also, a bunch of yellow plastic cable ties on all the critical areas!
That means that members of the San Francisco Bike Thieves Guild will have to use two tools at least to get any booty off of this ride:

A bud from D.C. says that cutting the annual federal stipend from Washington to the Presidio Trust is the Talk of the Town Back East this AM.
Congressman Tom Reed doesn’t like the 415, apparently:
“Two of Reed’s amendments would remove $23 million of funding for the Presidio Trust and $10 million for sewer construction in Tijuana, Mexico. The third would save $140 million by prohibiting an automatic pay increase for foreign service officers in the State Department.”
Is this like an annual thing, this effort to cut us off? Maybe not. Here’s the play-by-play from like 12 hours ago:
“8:20 P.M. -
Amendment offered by Mr. Reed.
-
- An amendment numbered 381 printed in the Congressional Record to reduce Presidio Trust, Presido Trust Fund by $15,000,000.”
Pick up the action at 5:00 right here. They’re talking about us in S.F. wasting federal funds:
” And when I look at the presidio trust fund and look at the park, it’s a great park, I concede that point, but the plan for the park was to be self-sufficient.”
“At this point, it’s time for us to put all our cards on the table and say, now that you are standing on your own two feet, when we face the fiscal crisis, this government now has to make a responsible decision.”
Harsh, dude.
