I’m Glad I Got My Giant Heron Nesting Photos Done BEFORE Camera Thieves Took Over Stow Lake

Wednesday, May 10th, 2017

Here’s the news:

Here’s my effort, from a few years back, when dese boids nested on a different island, taken with a 12-pound lens on a spindly tripod. Isn’t it beautiful?

You’re welcome.

The Professional Dog Walkers of Bernal Heights Appear to be Overwhelmed

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

The unlicensed commercial dog walkers of leash-free Bernal Heights appear to be overwhelmed at times. Perhaps each one should have an assistant – that would seem fair. Of course, there’s talk about requiring liability insurance and limiting the number pooches per businessperson, up in Marin.

How many pooches can you Spot? Click to expand, they won’t bite:

Were there any doggies inside this unattended pickup? At least one, anyway.

But don’t give just a four-star rating to your dog walker on the Yelp, as he/she would likely take that as an insult. Five stars are de rigueur, it would seem.

Everybody Poops – The Tidy Great Blue Herons of Golden Gate Park

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

The gigantic Great Blue Herons high atop Stow Lake in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park usually want to stick around their one-hundred pound nests, so sometimes this is how they go to the loo.

Most of it makes it out of the nest, anyway.

Click to expand, go ahead, do it.

This Fake Sign Reminds Us All of a Real San Francisco Law.

Monday, August 25th, 2008

This sign, sighted near in the Civic Center near Opera Plaza in San Francisco, cites an actual provision of the Health Code but it doesn’t look like it was posted by the City or County. Seems like somebody has a personal campaign to get the word out. How civic minded!

(a)   It shall be unlawful for any person owning or having control or custody of any dog to permit the animal to defecate upon the public property of this City or upon the private property of another unless the person immediately remove the feces and properly dispose of it; provided, however, that nothing herein contained authorizes such person to enter upon the private property of another without permission.

(b)   It shall be unlawful for any person to walk a dog on public property of this City or upon the private property of another without carrying at all times a suitable container or other suitable instrument for the removal and disposal of dog feces.
(c)   Visually handicapped persons who use Seeing Eye Guide Dogs are exempt from this law.
(Amended by Ord. 420-78, App. 9/8/78)
UPDATE: Well, commenter, of course it’s a real sign but it’s not an official San Francisco sign, as evidenced by the lack of any date code and the fact that it’s the only one in town. If you want one of your own, throw 50 bones over here to the Peachtree Business Products Co. Sadly, the funny graphic in the semi-custom sign shown above has been replaced by more dignified version of a man and his dog.
