So it’s only going to take 9,702 signatures to qualify the proposed “Fix MUNI First Initiative“ for the 2013 November ballot?
Those John Hancocks should be pretty easy to get, I think.
Yes, let’s let The People decide if it’s worth $40,000,000 a year to operate a pretty-much-useless subway shortline.
So maybe Chinatown power broker Rose Pak is smoking her celebratory cigar on the veranda of her taxpayer-funded luxury condo in District Six a touch too soon?
Yes.

Let’s see how easy it will be for her to corral stencil voters outside of Chinatown…
All the deets of the Central Subway fiasco, after the jump.

I’ll tell you, there are two kinds of San Franciscans:
1. People who know / care about who the current Mayor is; and
2. People who think the Mayor of San Francisco is still Gavin Newsom or Willie Brown or Dianne Feinstein*
A third of the first group welcomes the new City Target store, a third doesn’t care, and a third opposes this corporate chain-store invasion, man.
And the second group? They either don’t care or they welcome this store.
Golfing for Gift Cards and Bullseye doggie dolls:

*Which you know, isn’t too far from the truth, IRL.
(Oh, which of the two groups listed above is larger? The second one.)
I, for one, welcome our new corporate overlords.
As does Charlize Theron:

Feel free to continue shopping online until October 14th.
(And hey, where’s our Masonic and Geary Target, when’s that one coming?)
See you at the City Target on the Second Sunday of October 2012!

I mean, I assume.
Leave us review:
If you voted for Ed Lee for Mayor, your choice for the next D5 Supervisor is London Breed.*
OTOH, if you voted against Ed Lee for Mayor, your choice for the next D5 Supervisor is Julian Davis. Throw in a couple other choices if you want, but make sure neither one is London Breed or Interim Supervisor and Total Sellout Christine Olague. (Or should I say Christine “8 Washington” Olague? Or should I say Christine “Perjurer Accomplice” Olague?)
Easy Peasy.
Come out and say hi to Julian, I’m sure he’ll be there, this Sunday:

Click to expand – it’ll become legible
Hey, is PG&E a “Sponsor” of this event, on September 9th, 2012, the two year anniversary of PG&E’s San Bruno Pipeline Explosion, the one that killed eight souls? I think so.
(I wish San Francisco had just an average kind of utility monopoly instead of motherfucking PG&E. Speaking of which, a while back they inquired about how much it would cost to advertise some PR campaign on this tiny blog. I was like GTFO – I ignored it. Interestingly, presented with a similar offer, the San Francisco Bay Guardian said bring it, and so then PGE’s signature blue banner ads started appearing at SFBG.com, I’m seriously. Ah memories. )
Anyway, see you at Sunday Streets Western Addition 2012.
*I’m sure he’d be delighted to have her on board. Now, she’s a little PO’ed these days about how she kind of got screwed over by Interim Mayor Ed Lee earlier this year, oh and by Willie Brown and Rose Pak and all, but I’m sure Mayor Lee and his minders would adapt to London’s election swimmingly. (Of course Ed Lie said he would stay out of this particular race and of course now he’s now picking sides in D5, you know, just a few months later, but he also said he wouldn’t run for Mayor. In fact that’s why he became Interim Mayor, based on that other promise. Hence the sobriquet Ed Lie.) Anyway, Republican billionaire Ron Conway threw her a few bucks a little while ago – that’s telling, IMO. Oh, and DiFi just endorsed her, and you can’t get any more Establishment than DiFi I don’t think.

Should a one-party town have its elected officials reflect “unity and common purpose?”
That’s the Question of the Day.
(I’ll bet PG&E lobbyist Willie Brown would answer in the affirmative.)
Deets below.

“San Francisco Democrats elect Mary Jung chair, as newly elected DCCC members take office
Committee reflects ‘unity and common purpose’ in 2012 to re-elect Obama, help Pelosi reclaim Speakership, and make a difference on key state ballot measures
SAN FRANCISCO (July 27, 2012) — California Democratic Party Chair John Burton administered the oath of office to the newly elected members of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee Wednesday night at the first general meeting of the local Democratic Party’s governing board following the June 5th Primary Election.
Veteran Democratic activist Mary Jung was unanimously elected to serve as the San Francisco Democratic Party’s chair, and several DCCC members were elected to fill leadership roles that will be critical to the local party’s success heading into the November 2012 General Election. Top priorities discussed at the public meeting include re-electing President Obama, returning the Speakership to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi by helping reclaim a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, and pushing to expand the number of Democratic voters citywide.
“I’m honored to serve as Chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party, and I look forward to working hard with my fellow Democrats in an election year with so much at stake,” said Party Chair Mary Jung. ”San Francisco Democrats elected a terrific team to lead our county central committee, and I think it reflects a spirit of unity and common purpose. I’m confident in our ability to help return President Obama to the White House, make Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi Speaker again, re-elect Senator Feinstein, and pass Gov. Brown’s revenue measure so California can maintain vital public services, restore quality education for all, and support our most vulnerable.”
Other officers elected at the general meeting held at the California State Office Building’s Milton Marks Auditorium on Golden Gate Avenue are: First Vice-Chair (Finance) Zoe Dunning; Second Vice-Chair (Issues) Alix Rosenthal; Third Vice-Chair (Voter Registration) Trevor McNeil; Fourth Vice-Chair (Club Chartering and Development) Leah Pimentel; Recording Secretary Kat Anderson; Treasurer Tom Hsieh; Corresponding Secretary Matt Dorsey; and Parliamentarian Arlo Hale Smith. Rafael Mandelman will serve on the DCCC’s Slate Card Committee along with the Chair and Treasurer. A committee tasked with proposing party bylaw changes to incorporate requirements of the Ralph M. Brown Act, which assures public access and participation in local government public meetings, will include David Chiu, Arlo Hale Smith, Matt Dorsey and Hene Kelly. That ad hoc committee will seek to fully harmonize local party bylaws with relevant provisions of state law to address concerns that the election of six members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to the DCCC may occasionally trigger Brown Act requirements.
The committee also adopted two resolutions: one in support of placing AB 1648, a campaign finance reform measure known as the DISCLOSE Act, on the California ballot; and another expressing the Democratic Party’s support for City College of San Francisco.
About the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee
San Francisco’s Democratic County Central Committee, or DCCC, is the governing body of the local Democratic Party as defined in California’s Government Code and Elections Code. The DCCC is comprised of local Democrats elected by voters in each Assembly District, as well as partisan-level Democratic elected officials and nominees who serve as Ex-Officio Officers. Current members elected from the 17th Assembly District are: John Avalos, David Campos, David Chiu, Malia Cohen, Petra DeJesus, Matt Dorsey, Bevan Dufty, Zoe Dunning, Leslie Katz, Rafael Mandelman, Carole Migden, Leah Pimentel, Alix Rosenthal, and Scott Wiener. Members elected from the 19th Assembly District are: Kat Anderson, Kelly Dwyer, Bill Fazio, Tom Hsieh, Mary Jung, Hene Kelly, Meagan Levitan, Eric Mar, Trevor McNeil and Arlo Hale Smith. Ex Officio members are: U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier, Attorney General Kamala Harris, State Senators Leland Yee and Mark Leno, and Assemblymembers Fiona Ma and Tom Ammiano.

Uh oh, there’s a problem with candidate Michela Alioto-Pier saying she’d be “the first woman elected mayor of San Francisco.”
As David Cruise and others of the Twitterverse have pointed out:
“Nothing worse than hearing lies coming out of a candidates mouth… Michela needs to stop saying #SF has never elected a woman #SFMayor.”
Indeed.
And as a matter of fact, San Francisco had a stretch of 16 years, from 1971 to 1987, when Dianne Feinstein ran for Mayor four times in a row and ended up winning twice.
MAP at the Board of Supervisors looking foxy in at least four definitions of the term – look it up:

So, yes, DiFi was appointed, but she was also elected.
Twice.
Leave us never discuss this again.
kthxbye

From SFWIRE (home to “Super Important SF Stuff”) comes the news that San Francisco First lady Jennifer Siebel Newsom will be competing at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
This little tidbit escaped notice from the person who wrote up this bit in yesterday’s Chronicle. Oh well.
Anyway, here’s a retread post about Jen’s documentary from last month. Enjoy:
Well, thanks to Steve Rhodes, we’ve learned that Miss Representation, un film de Jennifer Siebel Newsom, is coming!
Check it.

Order the DVD or go to a screening if you want.
Enjoy:
“About the Film
Writer/Director Jennifer Siebel Newsom brings together some of America’s most influential women in politics, news, and entertainment to give us an inside look at the media’s message. Miss Representation explores women’s under-representation in positions of power by challenging the limited and often disparaging portrayal of women in the media. As one of the most persuasive and pervasive forces in our culture, media is educating yet another generation that women’s primary value lies in their youth, beauty and sexuality—not in their capacity as leaders. Through the riveting perspectives of youth and the critical analysis of top scholars, Miss Representation will change the way you see media.

Social Change Campaign
The distribution of the film will coincide with a social change campaign to re-envision women as leaders in society. Film proceeds will be donated to women’s leadership programs led by our partner organizations, which include Girls for A Change, Girls Inc., The International Museum of Women, Step Up Women’s Network, The Women’s Media Center, and The White House Project. The nation-wide, multi-generational effort will create an educational curriculum for middle and high school students and directed action to demand media responsibility. Donate to the campaign to help us achieve social change for women and girls.

[UPDATE: And Janet Reilly just conceded. Read her entire statement after the jump.]
Interesting candidate Mark Farrell has pulled off his upset in District 2. That means that he’ll become a San Francisco Supervisor come January 2011.
Read all about it, below.
Big Mark Farrell (in Giants Orange) y familia at Room 48 in City Hall all the way back in August 2009:

“As of this evening, all the votes have been counted in District 2 by the San Francisco Department of Elections and we have won the District 2 Supervisor election. With tonight’s victory, we now turn our immediate attention to preparing for office in January. Our transition team is in place, and I will be meeting with District 2 Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier tomorrow to kick-start the transition process. I will also finalize the hiring of my City Hall staff within the next week.
I would like to acknowledge and thank all of my opponents – Kat Anderson, Abraham Simmons, Barbara Berwick, Janet Reilly, and Vilma Guinto Peoro – for a very exciting and challenging campaign. They are dedicated and valued public servants who are each committed to the people and neighborhoods of District 2, and I look forward to working with all of them in the future.
While the past few weeks have been challenging as the vote count continued after Election Day, I fully recognize the need for a transparent and democratic electoral process – as such, I want to thank the leadership and staff of San Francisco’s Department of Elections for their dedication and diligence in completing this difficult task.
I would also like to personally thank all of those individuals that supported my campaign, beginning with Sheriff Michael Hennessey and in particular Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier and Supervisor Sean Elsbernd. Thank you as well to the organizations which supported my campaign along the way, including the Small Property Owners of San Francisco, Plan C, UA Local 38, BOMA, the District 2 Democratic Club, IBEW Local 1245, the San Francisco Coalition for Responsible Growth and Rescue MUNI.
Thank you to my incredible staff, including Chris Lee, Margaux Kelly, David Latterman and Mark Randolph, and in particular the hundreds of volunteers who poured their time and energy into this campaign – we would not have succeeded without your enthusiasm, and I will be eternally grateful.
Most importantly, thank you to my amazing family – from my wife Liz and our children, to my parents, in-laws and brothers and sisters – we started this journey last year together as a family, and your unconditional support truly carried this campaign across the goal line.
While it was a long campaign and ultimately a close election, I am both honored and excited to represent the residents of District 2, and look forward to working to return common sense, fiscal discipline and neighborhood leadership back to City Hall.”
And here’s what Janet has to say tonight, after the jump.
