This particular space on 10th Street is particularly long, so there’s nothing stopping a SmartCar driver from sneaking up on your six and bogarting your space.
And motorcycle drivers do this kind of thing as well.
Maybe DPT would write two citations for the one parking meter violation?

That’s my guess but I don’t know…

Check it – what do you think these rooftop sensors are for?
As seen on Market Street two days afore the big Halloween 2012 San Francisco Giants parade:

Read and learn:
Hey, SFMTA! Is this your new set of wheels? Oh it is? Well then, what are those attachment things on the roof detecting? Are they detecting a whole bunch of license plates? Well, good for you, SFMTA, good for you.
On McAllister Street during last night’s evening drive:

OMG, it’s Automatic Number Plate Recognition in the 415! And these things are not just sitting fixed by the ballpark during the World Series, oh no, they’s everywhere.
If only MUNI and the streetcars worked as good as these Blue Crush SkyCop-type contraptions:

Anyway, last I saw, this white Chevrolet Uplander minivan was headed into the Fillmore to catch violators.

Hurray!
“Freaking trash! I wonder how much they owe? Most of them are on the run, not even using their social security numbers. If there was only a way to make them pay…”
All right, Repo Man, that’s enough,
O.K., all the deets. I hope our meter maids have all the features shown here:

Technical Information:
The MLPRV is a vehicle-mounted system for license plate image capture and video processing permitting autonomous operation (requiring no direct action of a user) to read license plates and match against various hot list of wanted vehicles.
The Mobile Video Surveillance Platform will record video and audio using H.264 compression and have the ability to
record up to eight (8) analog cameras for on board video and audio storage with remote streaming to a command center. The system will include a 7” In-Dash Touchscreen for control and monitoring. The License Plate Recognition System (LPR) will use dual-camera imaging (high-resolution cameras for license plate reading, secondary cameras for evidence gathering), GPS (with or without) moving map display, back-end evidence and reporting software, and a wireless communication capability for transferring data between the back-end and each mobile unit. The LPR and Video Surveillance system is mounted on a Pan & Tilt drive system and can be installed on the center light bar or other preferred areas. The LPR and Surveillance Cameras can be automatically positioned on all sides of the vehicle while in operation.

(Check it, my first pro-SFMTA post.)
This cute pup was guarding an Acura parked on 10th Street while its owner visited our SoMA Costco (I assume, I mean, why else would anybody park down there?)

Problem? The disabled placard hanging from the rear-view has expired. See?

So guess who was waiting for this car’s owner to show up – it was DPT’s Disabled Placard Street Team with their bright blue shoulder patches.
Les mise-en-scene avec Etat de Jardin* license plates sur la Acura bleu:

This issue could end up costing the driver thousands of dollars, when all is said and done.** (I can’t say for sure because I don’t get paid by the City Family to stakeout cars, plus I had to split. Oh well.)
Now, WWSD? Like What Would KRON-TV’s Stanley Roberts Do if he came upon this scene? Oh yes, something like this.
But, you know, I might possibly be beefier than Stanley (I know I’m taller than he but I could actually outweigh him) and, you know, I wouldn’t want to get into an another Elmo situation.
Bon courage, Acura pooch. Your owner will need all the love she can get today.
*Garden State – it’s a Jersey Thing.***
**The funny thing is that Costco has plenty of free parking. And honestly, I don’t think the good people of Costco would care all that much if you parked in their garage while shopping elsewhere. As stated, there’s nothing else going on ’round that area so it’s not like they’re on the lookout for renegade parkers.
***YouTube, you’re too funny. Oprah + Snooki = ???

Or maybe all this guy does it take Denver boots off of cars,* I can’t tell.
Anyway, you’ll figure out the system shortly after you accumulate five or more unpaid parking tickets in the 415.
It happens.
Please note the brand-new Automatic Number Plate Recognition video cameras on the roof of the white minivan, the better to scan in your license plate, automatic-like.
That’s how they get you
(There ought to be a “Denver Boot Man Alert” app for your phone, you know, for when he comes within a half-mile of your ride, give you a chance to switch license plates or something…)
*Just like Angle Grinder Man, except AGM is on the other side of the law.
The judge said five to ten but I say double that again
I’m not working for the clampdown

As seen at Daiso, our relatively new 100-yen store. (Blade Runner, you were way off about The Future, BTW.)
So, mangia, mangia!
In other words, It’s All Good.
Ah memories:
As some people say, “I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to sell expired food.”
But, generally, it’s not.
As here, on Post Street at Ichi Ban Kan, where stuff that’s past its “Best If Used By Date” gets a fat discount and a special section and a pink label:

Nothing illegal here, srsly.
Enjoy!

First, I thought they were SkyCop-type mobile license plate scanners like these these new things the meter maids have…

…but now I don’t know.
I suppose those black cylinders could be lights or something…

Learn all about San Francisco’s mobile billboards right here.
O.K. then. Now, this anti-abortion advertising truck from Nevada was illegally parked on Market Street back when a huge crowd of 16,000 or so marched up the Embarcadero.
Of course, the SFPD or a meter maid could give this “Do It Outdoors” a ticket but what good would that do?
Is this how Do It Outdoors does bidness, with unregistered Nevada plates?

Looks that way.

You people, you people living in Senator Leland Yee‘s district have another option in case you’re interim drivers license is expiring and the California DMV says they can’t do nothing for you.
See below.
Oh, and hey, here’s Stu Woo’s bit in the Wall Street Journal about Leland.
The Unhappiest Place in the World:

“Senator Yee’s Office Helps Fill Void from DMV Delays
If delayed at DMV, contact Yee’s office for a temporary license
SACRAMENTO – Due to the recent redesign of the California driver’s license to address issues of forgery, combined with state worker furloughs, there is a massive backlog at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). As a result, many residents have experienced significant delays in receiving their new driver’s license. Delays as long as three months have been reported, which goes beyond the duration of interim licenses that are provided immediately after passing the DMV test.
Fortunately, help is available for those experiencing such delays. Today, Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) encouraged residents to contact his office, where his staff will help facilitate residents receiving a 120-day temporary license to suffice until the backlog is processed at DMV.
San Francisco residents should contact Yee’s district representative Erin Keenan at 415-557-7857. San Mateo County residents are encouraged to contact Yee’s district representative Dan Lieberman at 650-340-8840.
“My office stands ready to help all residents who are experiencing such delays in receiving their driver’s license,” said Yee. “During this busy holiday season, residents shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not their new license will arrive before their interim license expires.”
