Shen Yun, the “Falun Gong Show,” Plays Our Famous Opera House – Who’s Embarrassed? Chinese Consulate, Rose Pak

Friday, December 27th, 2013

Our world-famous Beaux-Arts War Memorial Opera House will once again host SHEN YUN, aka The Falun Gong Show.

See? January 4-12, 2014:

Here’s what Chinese consulates and embassies around the world have to say about this show.

Our Chinese consulate over in the Japantown area is keeping quiet this go-around, but the people there are nevertheless steamed about this show. As is Chinatown strongman / Chinese consulate “advisor” Rose Pak, oh well.

But things could be worse. Remember this one from a half-decade back? This gal suspended herself from the roof of the consulate on Laguna to protest about Tibet. See?

Source unknown This could be a one-of-a-kind photo

And then people from the consulate went up there and cut her down.

How long a fall to the balcony would you say that was? 15 feet or so? (Note the absence of the flagpoles in this later photo – those poles got nubbed shortly after the rope cutting incident.)

And then the SFFD couldn’t get into the building to rescue her to take her to SFGH because, because, well, the People’s Republic of China.

Official Chinese Propaganda 75% Off: CHINA DAILY Newspaper Used To Be Free – Then $1 – Now 25 Cents

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

First it was free and then it cost $1 at newsstands.

But that didn’t work out, obliviously.

So this is the latest tack – a price reduction:

Most of the paper’s editorial staff are still Chinese, whose English reports are ‘polished’ by a small group of expatriate editors employed on short-term contracts.”

Oh, I see.

Carry on then.

How the Falun Gong Defeated Google – The Shen Yun 2013 “Extravaganza” Plays San Francisco’s Orpheum Theatre

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

All right, let’s say you’ve heard about the big Shen Yun 2013 show at our Orpheum Theatre and you want to find out a little about it, m’kay?

So you type into Google and this what you get:

What you won’t get is something like this:

The Falun Gong Show

Or Yelp reviews neither, like these:

The Yelp

And you certainly won’t find the official Chinese Communist Party (“Socialism, with Chinese Characteristics!”) website on Shen Yun all that easily, oh no:

Cult Studies [Uh, FYI, CCP, your agitprop website looks a little crude, like it's from your little buddy North Korea, just saying.]

So I guess the lesson to be learned is that if a small group of people want to game Google so that you’ll buy tickets to this show without knowing, in a general way, what it’s about first, then they can.

Things I now know:

SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE;

THE BOLD ITALIC IS GANNETT COMPANY, INCORPORATED; and

SHEN YUN 2013 IS FALUN GONG

That’s something to consider when you’re getting the hard sell at San Francisco Costco #144, as seen last week on 10th  Street:

Two Men Punch Falun Gong in Chinatown – They Opt for “Community Court” – Sentence: Apology Letters

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

San Francisco has Neighborhood Courts? News to me.

Anyway, if you go down to Chinatown, I don’t know, maybe around Grant Ave. and Washington, and you start punching the Falun types, well, you just end up in Community Court and then be forced to write insincere apology notes, and to attend Anger Management courses, and to keep away from Grant Ave. and Washington.

So says the house organ for area Falun Gong, the Epoch Times Newspaper.

Check it:

“Yongyao Wu (right) assaults Falun Gong practitioner Derek Wang in San Francisco’s Chinatown on June 10. Wu was found guilty by a Neighborhood Court on Aug. 13. (Courtesy of anonymous bystander)”

So, I sort of knew about this sitch, but I didn’t know how things turned out.

Man, the Falun Gong Protest in Front of the Chinese Consulate on Geary Will Freak You Out

Friday, July 6th, 2012

I don’t know, which would you rather see when you look outside in the morning? Would you rather see freaky Blair Witch evidence or bunch of Falun Gong holding this pose?

Geary at Laguna:

I could go either way.

But, attention cultists, achtung baby: Signals intelligence officers are inside this consulate, sniffing your cell phone data packets, so to speak. Like a giant Google Maps car.

So, Falun Gongers, take your cell phone batteries out of your mobiles, if you know what’s good for you, whenever you protest over there.

Hey, That Shen Yu “Falun Gong Show” is Back in Town at Our Opera House Until January 8th, 2012

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Not that I care all that much about it, but you know, it’s back for 2012, baby.

Here’s your backgrounder right here. And here’s Civic Center Mike’s take.

Oh, this popped up in one of my shots – I recognized it immediately.* SY spends a lot of money advertising itself, of course:

The annual return of the Shen Yu upsets the occupants of the Chinese Consulate in the Western Addition like nobody’s business. Oh well.

The current government of China hates Shen Yu and vice versa. These two have got a whole dramaturgical dyad going on.

Choose or lose.

Cause, you know, one side is a cult, and the other is a shadowy religious group.

Get your tickets here, if you want.

*Oh, and last month, the Shen Yu repeatedly subscribed and unsubscribed to my Twitter on like a daily basis. Why? I don’t know. Oh well.

Waking Up to Find Eight Copies of China Daily on Your Stoop – Free Propaganda from the Red Chinese Government

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Uh, ChinaDaily what?

(Remember when the San Francisco Examiner used to deliver newspapers to your door every day whether you asked for them or not?)

Good morning!

At first, I thought that this could be a house organ from our area Falun Gong, but it turns out that China Daily is an official “state-owned enterprise” of the People’s Republic of China.

This publication is like Radio Free Europe, but the opposite and in reverse.

Now, are these weekly papers being distributed in Mission District cafes nowadays as well? Apparently:

Chinese soft power reaches the Mission cafe universe: China Daily, the PRC’s English language newspaper, now found in cafes in SF.”

O.K. then.

But don’t feel left out – you can always check out the Twitter feed.

So, it’s like Yuan legislation, O.K., and then cloud computing, O.K., and then Key people in the 1911 Revolution, WTF?

Look for a copy of  China Daily to appear on your San Francisco stoop someday.

Hurray?
