Get Your Sail On! San Francisco’s Annual Festival of Sail Begins

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

It’s on! Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, July 22, 2008, you should come on down to San Francisco’s waterfront and check out all the old school ships. You’ll be able to see 32 Tall Ships sail through the Golden Gate starting at around noon. You can get good views from the Presidio and Fort Mason.

Look out for the Nazi-built war prize USCGC Eagle (you can’t miss it, it’s huge).

Don’t miss the Pirate Academy!

There will be three Festival of Sail villages at:

Ferry Building (International Sail Village), and

Pier 43-1/2 (Marine Educational Village).

Purchase Boarding Passes online for one of three villages, which will feature several vessels and other maritime-history highlights ($10 to $20). Board the Red and White Fleet Water Taxi to connect between the three villages. Book online ($16) for a full day pass.

See you there!

San Francisco Dyke March 2008 a Huge Success

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

The San Francisco Dyke March had a huge turnout yesterday, as per usual. This was the scene as the crowd headed to Dolores Park in the Mission district, where every girl cried for one reason or another, per TonyClick to enlarge:

Much-discussed this year was the case of Venice Brown, Terrain Dandridge, Patreese Johnson, Renata Hill and Dwayne Buckle.

A full account of the 2008 Dyke Festival and Parade is here. See you next year.

A Fanned Mohawk Bleached Blond on San Francisco’s Haight Street.

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

It’s so nice to encounter kids today re-embracing the true mohawk style of hair design.

You see, that David Beckham with his fauxhawk copout has led some people astray. Imagine attempting to get a mohawk look without the necessary backcombing and head shaving! Mr. Beckham really has some nerve coopting legitimate punk style.

Three cheers for the real deal, seen at the recent 2008 Haight Street Fair:

San Francisco’s Haight Ashbury Street Fair a Huge Success

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Yesterday’s Haight Ashbury Street Fair in San Francisco came with sunny skies and lots of attendees.

The alcohol ban of recent years has changed the character of this event somewhat. These days, the boozy Union Street Festival might have an edge in the number of inebriated. No matter, a good time was had by all in the Haight.

So, dig the colors of David Yu and look at a bunch of photos from SFWeekly

Attention Parolees: Avoid San Francisco’s Haight Street Fair Today.

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Be careful when attending the alcohol-free (really?) Haight Ashbury Street Fair today, as parole agents are on the scene. That’s not too crunchy.

How Well Will You Do Taking the Bush-McCain Challenge?

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

News of the Day: Republican John McCain is getting a little tired of being compared with President George W. Bush all the time:

“You will hear from my opponent’s campaign in every speech, every interview, every press release that I’m running for President Bush’s third term. You will hear every policy of the president described as the Bush-McCain policy. Why does Senator Obama believe it’s so important to repeat that idea over and over again?”

People at last week’s Union Street Festival (aka “Eco-Urban Festival”, aka BoozeFest ‘08) had a chance to examine the differences between Bush and McCain firsthand. Check it:

Thanks to the Internets, you can take the Bush-McCain Challenge yourself right now. It’s tough! For example, the first query is:

Who promised that U.S. troops would be greeted as “liberators” in Iraq?

People at the neighboring Republican Party ironing board recruiting center (seen in background with the blue balloon) might think this push poll a tad unfair. What do you think?

The Republican Party of San Francisco Recruiting in Cow Hollow

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Everybody was all smiles at Union Street Festival’s Republican Party ironing-board recruiting station the other day, believe it or not. (Some people call this area The Marina. Same deal.)

Don’t Miss Out on San Francisco’s Union Street Festival Today.

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

This photo in no way shows the humongousness of the 2008 Union Street Festival (aka Eco-Urban Festival) in San Francisco.

Be sure to check out the ginourmous house party at 1760 Union - it’s huge. Here’s the back entrance on Filbert.

These four kids from the south bay are shotgunning together in the backyard of the house party. Movie maven James Lipton is an idol to all bay area youth, so of course they love to emulate his naughty behavior.

The beer gardens are filling up, the sun is shining, and the Republican Party is recruiting (srsly, at Webster Street), so what’s holding you back?

See you there!
