Discovery Days
It’s always festival time in the Bay Area! This program brings the fun and excitement of science to a huge crowd. But instead of one, we’re holding 3 different carnivals throughout the Bay Area to bring science to you!

Science at the Library
From Santa Rosa to San Jose, and everywhere in between, the Bay Area is a region of neighborhoods. For those who like to stay local, don’t miss the festival events taking place right in your community. Scientists, engineers, and other experts are set to appear in local libraries and community centers, providing over 50 fun programs for all to enjoy – most of them free.
Bay Area Star Party
Explore the cosmos! You are invited to take a “guided tour” of the stars hidden in our city night sky. Observatories around the Bay Area will open their doors to the public and feature talks by faculty and guest astronomers. In Oakland, Chabot Space and Science Center will host the grandest star party with its talks being broadcast over the radio for all to hear. Can’t make it to an observatory? Stargazing sites will be set up at community centers and parks in neighborhoods across the Bay Area. Don’t have a telescope? No problem! A bevy of local astronomers will bring both their equipment and their vast knowledge of the night sky to each location.
Wonder Dialogues
Ever wonder…how close we are to curing cancer? How will augmented reality impact the way we use media? How is our genetic code being used to improve medicine? What role do we play in preventing extinction? What makes an addict? These are just some of the many questions that will be explored during the Bay Area Science Festival’s Wonder Dialogue Series. Don’t miss this opportunity to talk with some of the world’s top scientists & engineers.

One City, One Science Book
So many great science books, but so little time. Join the San Francisco and San Mateo County Libraries as we celebrate the best of science in book form. Olympic icon Jonny Moseley partners with House of Air, will host Opening Weekend festivities as ‘Brand Ambassadair’
SAN FRANCISCO (September 16, 2010) – On the day after House of Air
opened its doors to the public, owners Paul McGeehan and Dave
Schaeffer were thrilled to announce a new partnership with Olympic
Gold-Medalist Jonny Moseley. The former “Sportsman of the Year” will
serve as an ‘Ambassadair’ for the ground-breaking trampoline park,
helping to spread the word about the venue’s ability to make “Flyers”
out of all of us.
“When I first heard about House of Air, I knew it was something that I
wanted to be a part of,” said Moseley. “What I like most about it is
the fact that it offers something for everyone. Whether you’re a
highly-skilled athlete looking to hone your skills, or an adult or
child looking to experience the joy of flying, you’re guaranteed to
have a great time.”
Moseley also stated that he will be hosting House of Air’s grand
opening celebration, which will begin on Friday, September 17 and
continue throughout the weekend. The celebration will include live
DJs, exciting raffle giveaways, and demonstrations from expert
jumpers. “We’re going to have a lot of fun this weekend,” added
Moseley, who will be doing interviews with the media throughout the
weekend. “I’ll be judging a “dinner roll” competition on Friday
evening. The winner will receive a pair of K2 HardSide skis, so
hopefully lots of people will be eager to show off their moves.”
The weekend’s festivities will kick off on Friday at 1:00pm with a
ribbon cutting ceremony, and will last all evening, before resuming
again on Saturday morning. Those who would like to purchase tickets
to jump during these or any other times can do so by visiting

House of Air is located at 926 Mason Street at West Crissy Field in
the Presidio of San Francisco. Prices start at $14 per hour for open
trampoline jump time; each additional hour is $10. House of Air will
be open Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. – 11
p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. – 11 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. House of
Air will also be open for fitness classes at 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. daily.

Countdown To Liftoff Underway at House of Air. Revolutionary Trampoline Park Set to Open on September 15, 2010
With exactly one week until the official opening of their ground-breaking trampoline park, owners Paul McGeehan and Dave Schaeffer are thrilled to begin counting down to the day they have long dreamed of. Beginning on Wednesday, September 15, people of all ages and ability levels will be able to take flight at House of Air, which is located at the western edge of San Francisco’s
Chrissy Field.
McGeehan and Schaeffer are also excited to announce that, beginning on Friday, September 17 and continuing all weekend, the venue will be staging a Grand Opening Celebration. The event will feature demonstrations from experienced flyers, a live DJ, food and drinks,

I’ll tell you, there’s not a doubt in my mind that Toyota continues to be, by far, the best car company in the world. That’s something that commenters and pundits who don’t know what the eff they’re talking about should keep in mind, one might think. (And rest assured, my giant Toyota has, for some odd reason, both a new-school electronic throttle sensor and old-school throttle cable. It’s like you’re wearing a belt and suspenders at the same time!)
Anywho, due to the recent troubles, Toyota has a new joint coming to the Bay Area. So, look forward to a Product Quality Field Office opening its doors in the East Bay, in San Ramon, soon. (They’re calling it “San Francisco” in the press release, but that’s close enough, I s’pose. It’ll be close to Berkeley, anyway, where 20% of cars sold these days are Priuseses, or something.)

Toyota to Expand Product Quality Field Offices Across United States and Canada
San Francisco Field Office Launches This Month; Seven North American Offices Planned Significantly Enhances Field Data Collection and Technical Capabilities
TORRANCE, Calif., July 8 — Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS), today announced that it is expanding its Product Quality Field Office program to four additional U.S. regional sales areas, following the success of a pilot program launched in the New York region in late 2009. TMS will officially open its next Product Quality Field Office in San Francisco this month, and an additional three offices across the U.S. over the next 12 months. Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) announced that it will establish Product Quality Field Offices in Toronto and Calgary, for a total of seven offices across North America.
Staffed by technical and engineering specialists with expertise drawn from across Toyota’s global operations, these Product Quality Field Offices strengthen Toyota’s North American field technical presence and data gathering and reporting capabilities, enhancing the company’s ability to detect, analyze and respond to customer and quality issues in the field.
Product Quality Field Offices are being established with the mandate to investigate specific field quality issues related to unique regional, geographical or environmental conditions in each area. The New York region office was developed to investigate the performance of Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles in cold weather climates, with an emphasis on corrosion issues. The new San Francisco office will focus on hybrid vehicle systems and durability, capitalizing on the high concentration of these vehicles in the California market.

You know the Presidio, right? It’s that scary place that Bill O’Reilly wouldn’t dream of visiting at night. But take a look for yourself by opening up Today at the Presidio, the Presidio Trust 2008 Year-End Report, aka Fiscal Year 2008 Annual Report (with Performance & Accountability Report), It’s loaded with photos, anyway.
Here’s something new for 2008, the Crissy Field Overlook:
But here’s something that hasn’t changed at all in 2008 – the Main Post Theatre on Moraga is still closed, in part due to opposition from owners of other movie theatres. (Rather like like how Mike Dell might object to the opening of an Apple Store, non?) No matter, the San Francisco Film Society still dreams of reopening the joint and having festivals ‘n stuff.
Last year also saw plans change for the proposed Contemporary Art Museum Presidio (CAMP) project. Gluckman Mayner is no longer on the job, but some locals are finishing up the details on a new approach right now.

Presidio Trust Unveils 2008 Year-End Report
Today at the Presidio Highlights the Many Ways People Use the Park
Presidio of San Francisco (January 29, 2009) – The Presidio Trust has released its year-end report for 2008, detailing how the agency has managed the largest historic preservation effort currently underway in the country, offered cultural events and programs, created new recreational opportunities, and fostered a growing community. Today at the Presidio focuses on the everyday ways that people – those who live, work, and visit – are experiencing the 1,500-acre park.
The Presidio is celebrating its 15th year as a national park.
“I am pleased to share the significant achievements from the past year and proud of the contributions made by our board members, staff and volunteers,” said Craig Middleton, executive director of the Presidio Trust. “We are particularly proud of the how the community has evolved and the growth in number of people who enjoy the park – working, living and recreating here. Community life has truly returned to the Presidio.”
Using a “day in the life” approach, the report highlights the ways people enjoy the diverse activities available in the park – daily occurrences such as residents commuting on the free PresidiGo Shuttle in early morning, to high school students conducting a science class at Baker Beach during the day, to docents training for public events in the evening.
The “performance and accountability” section focuses on the sound fiscal performance driven by strong demand for residential and commercial leased property. Progress on plans to revitalize the Main Post and communicate its historic significance, the historic rehabilitation of the former Public Health Service Hospital district into residential units, trail and scenic overlook improvements, new volunteer opportunities, and enhanced public access to the park are also detailed in the report.

The Presidio Trust was established by the United States Congress in 1996 to manage the Presidio of San Francisco, a former Army base located at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. The 1,500-acre site contains the infrastructure of a small community as well as expansive open space, a 300-acre historic forest, spectacular views, and rare and endangered plants and wildlife. It comprises nearly 6 million square feet of buildings, including 469 historic structures that contribute to its status as a National Historic Landmark District, making it unlike any other national park. www.presidio.gov
