Meh: Meet Your Boeing 737 “Next Generation” Workhorse with New “Sky Interior”

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

I don’t know, there’s not much you can do with an older aircraft design like the Boeing 737. Anyway, this is it, your new “Sky Interior.”

See the scalloping by the windows? And the bins, they’re new. And they use LED lights to mimic the blue of the sky. It can also do the warm glow of sunrise.

O.K., Boeing.

The saving grace for this airplane is that it’s signif. lighter than the Airbus 320. That will have to do until Big B redoes the 737.

All the deets:

New interior options for the 737NG in 2010 included the 787-style Boeing Sky Interior. Designed using Boeing’s new cabin concepts, the Sky Interior features sculpted sidewalls and redesigned window housings, along with increased headroom and LED mood lighting. Larger pivot-bins similar to those on the 777 and 787 have more luggage space than prior designs. The Sky Interior is also designed to improve cabin noise levels by 2-4 dB. The first 737 equipped with the Boeing Sky Interior was delivered to Flydubai in the fourth quarter of 2010. TUIFly and Continental Airlines have also taken delivery of Sky Interiors.”

San Francisco’s Virgin America Airlines Gets Its Own Reality Show March 24th: Fly Girls

Friday, February 26th, 2010

San Francisco-based Virgin America Airlines has its own “docu-series” starting up on March 24th at 9:30 PM on the CW – it’s called Fly Girls (and it’s not to be confused with the In Living Color/Jennifer Lopez kind of Fly Girls from the 90′s).

Take a look. Meet Mandalay, a local “girl” who’s a Virgin America flight attendant based out of SFO in real life. Listen to her go on about the “romance of aviation” and the benefits of choosing Virgin America, the only California-based airline left by the way.

Barbie, Skipper, and the ”ethnic girlfriends of Barbie“ (or, more politely, a ”mini- United Nations of races and ethnicities“) are coming soon to KBCW-TV channel 44 / 45 and all the CW stations across America. Oh yes, their “real” names (or “reel” names) are Tasha, Louise, Mandy (or Mandi), Nikole and Farrah:

Doesn’t this promo shot from the CW Network of former beauty queen Nikole look just like a Virgin America ad?

This show is going to be something like eight half-hour Virgin America infomercials complete with 30-second commercials for shampoo and cosmetics. Nevertheless, it’s going to be better than NBC’s high-budget San Francisco-based Trauma serial, that’s a given from the get-go. (Wonder if cheeky Virgin Airlines founder Sir Richard Branson will make an appearance or two…)

Just discovered that my aging Trinitron (that could be older than you) actually receives channel 44 so I’ll be sure to tune in to check out the debut.

Excelsior, Ever Upward.

Now, meet the Fly Girls and get more deets after the jump.

The British Overseas Airways Corporation is Back, Baby

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

That’s the only reasonable conclusion one can reach after seeing these new red and white BOAC stickers all over the Haights near San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park Panhandle. BOAC, after being saddled with some clunker aircraft, became British Airways in the 1970′s but people still seem to love the brand.

Why? Well, the stewardess uniforms, for example. They had “fab” designs, complete with “cute hats.” And people still collect cool BOAC souvenirs like currency converters, matchbook covers, and related ephemera.

Or maybe it’s the opening track of the Beatles’ White Album that some folks are thinking about. Back then, people had to worry about the Russians annexing neighbouring countries and stuff.

Thank goodness that’s all in the past.

Flew in from Miami Beach BOAC
Didn’t get to bed last night
Oh, the way the paper bag was on my knee
Man, I had a dreadful flight
I’m back in the USSR
You don’t know how lucky you are, boy
Back in the USSR, yeah

Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the west behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
And that Georgia’s always on my my my my my my my my my mind

Godspeed, little Georgia.

[Could BOAC be a Hip Hop artist? Signs point to Yes.]
