This was the scene today at Van Ness and McAllister (where a passing San Francisco Supervisor went out of his/her way to state that he/she was not involved). It was the great anti-PG&E, anti-SmartMeter protest at the California Public Utilities Commission.
Anyway, the answer is this:
No, don’t worry about RF radiation from Smart Meters.
Worry about something else if you want, though. Be my guest.
Nice sign, but…

Turns out that Famous Frank Chu is aware of people who trade his old signs and he’s cool with it.
(Any allegations of profiteering against Frank’s wishes are cheerfully withdrawn.)
My first photo of Frank Chu straight-on posted on the Web:

Wonder what one of Frank’s old Impeach Clinton / Zegnatronic Rocket Society signs would be worth these days…

Despite those hating Yelpers, today’s Haight Ashbury Street Fair was, once again, a huge success.
“The Haight-Ashbury Street Fair is held on the second Sunday of June each year, during which Haight Street is closed down between Stanyan and Masonic, with one sound stage at each end. This is a rather crowded event due to heavy tourism.”
Indeed:

San Francisco District Five Supervisor Ross “The Boss” Mirkarimi was on hand, as per usual:

At least the Yelpers like Frank:

“Show us your boobs” above the Haight Ashbury Ben & Jerry’s, as per usual:

Your Bay City Bombers were there, natch. Here’s their montage:

What better place for famous Frank Chu to mark a half-century of existence in our Milky Way galaxy than to hold court at the full-century-old Pied Piper Bar & Maxfield’s at the Palace Hotel on Market Street. The problem was that Frank missed the 5:30 PM starting time by a good margin owing to his attendance at a labor rally just across the street.
Tick-tock, Frank, tik-tok.
See? There’s his famous sign, right next to Che Guevara in the pouring sun:

But he was eventually cajoled into quitting work early and joining his party, already in progress. Here he is holding court ‘neath the famous Pied Piper mural / painting.

And then it was off to neighboring Maxfield’s. Here he is posing for a semi Last Supper-style photo:

(Frank always seems to be around a pretty girl.)
Happy birthday Frank Chu!
Hours of Operation Monday – Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Maxfield’s was named after the famous artist Maxfield Parrish who painted the iconic Pied Piper of Hamlin mural located in the adjacent Pied Piper Bar. The warm and inviting atmosphere of Maxfield’s and the Pied Piper Bar feature a beautiful mosaic tile floor and rich wood paneling. Whether sitting at the handsome mahogany bar or a relaxing table, you will feel at home when dining in Maxfield’s and the Pied Piper. For almost a century, the Pied Piper bar has been the favored spot among locals as well as visitors from around the world. The Pied Piper provides the perfect backdrop for the world famous Maxfield Parrish mural “The Pied Piper of Hamelin”. Enjoy delicious appetizers, American cuisine and cocktails in this welcoming atmosphere.

See?
Frosty the Chu Man at the SoMA office of Google in San Francisco, where the toilets all have 14 things to push, instead of just one.

He’s back, baby! San Francisco’s Mayor Gavin Newsom is back in town, both physically and mentally. So, he’ll (OMG, is Gavin channelling giddy, laughing Tom Cruise?) once again have to deal with the so-called “delusional” media, but that won’t stop him from continuing to Take It Directly to the People, GWB-style. As here, with last night’s lighting ceremony for the Market Street Snowflakes.
Our mayor with the Snowflake Girls near the Powell Street Cable Car Turnaround at the dramatic Moment of Lighting. Dixitque Gavin fiat lux, et facta est lux:

But let’s start earlier on in the evening. This was Market Street a little before the ceremony. It’s the darkest I’ve ever seen it, cause they turned off all the LED snowflakes (which have been burning the midnight oil quite a bit recently, as they were last summer, when they were being installed and tested) plus the streetlamps of the “Path of Gold” too.
Even a Toyota Prius driver would turn on the headlights with on a street this dark:

The streetlights and snowflakes are wired in together? That would make sense:

Anywho, back to the ceremony, apres-lux - can you see all them signs? Show Your Zip is the new “locals only” holiday shopping program. (It would appear that the San Francisco Ballet (nice new video they have on the homepage now) would have this program’s best discounts.) Scott Beale’s Laughing Squid is celebrating its 14th Anniversary as a local business with the help of famous Frank Chu. And The Jesus Loves You Guy was on the scene as well. Natch:

The mise-en-scene last night. Aside from almost always appearing bored while waiting for others to finish speaking (looking left, looking right, looking left, looking up….), Gavin Newsom always handles these kinds of public events very well, as you would expect a charismatic leader to do:

The Least-Yellowest Teeth in all Christendom. In fact, nowadays, they’re so white that they’re on the blue side, as if flourescent. Amazing:

President of the Board of Supervisors David Chiu, taking time out of his interview with KGO-TV’s Lilian Kim to greet Frank Chu in front of The Gap, which is doing better these days, don’t you know.

And this is how I left it, with the lights on ’til January 2010:

Enjoy.

The People’s Budget Collaborative held their protest yesterday at the residence of the Gavin Newsom, Mayor of San Francisco. They were a noisy bunch of fifty.

Read what The Coalition on Homelessness / Street Sheet thinks about all this.

The Newsomator is a figure of menace to these protesters. Budget battles are coming.
