Lean Over: The Photo of a “Female Plumber” That Sheryl Sandberg Doesn’t Want You to See

Wednesday, February 12th, 2014

Let’s see here:

“When a friend of Sheryl Sandberg’s was looking for a stock image of a female plumber, all she found online were women posing in lingerie and clutching wrenches.”

Mmmm. What if I tried to find stock images of a “female plumber?” Here, take a look, no foolsies.

Well, wrenches, sure, that’s the whole point. Holding a plumber’s wrench = plumber, right?

But “posing in lingerie?” Not so much.

In fact not at all! But this one is close, I ‘spose:

Gentle Reader, I’ll make the impolite suggestion that billionaire* Sheryl Sandberg’s conveniently-unidentified millionaire* friend doesn’t know what she* is doing when she hunts for images online.

Why not sell books and lead by NOT (re)telling lies/stories that don’t add up?

END OF LINE.

Ah, memories:

“Only 305 Views so far, but this one will end up with tens of millions of viewers, soon enough.

Ten minutes – full screen and 1080p please:

So that’s what was going on when the Bay Bridge was shut down that day.

I’m already looking forward to the director’s cut, you know, with outtakes and errors and broken stuff.

And just for the record, San Francisco Film Commission, the kids these days don’t want to see scripted drama crap like NBC’s Trauma, they want to see something interesting. So the sooner you stop subsidizing crap like NBC’s Trauma, the better off we’ll all be…

“DC and Ken Block present Gymkhana FIVE: Ultimate Urban Playground; San Francisco.

Shot on the actual streets of San Francisco, California, GYM5 features a focus on fast, raw and precise driving action. Filmed over four days, director Ben Conrad and his team are back to work on their second Gymkhana production and delivered the entire city of San Francisco as Ken Block’s personal gymkhana playground. DC Shoes also provided fellow DC athlete and longtime Ken Block friend, Travis Pastrana, to make a cameo appearance on his dirtbike, and S.F. resident Jake Phelps of Thrasher Magazine fame also makes a cameo as Block hoons S.F. in his most incredible Gymkhana yet. For more information check us out at http://www.dcshoes.com/auto

And here’s some context:

Jumping Taylor in a Fiesta. Wow:

And in the Financial, on California, near some fake cable cars:

More in Potrero Hill, on Bike to Work Day 2012:

And again in the Financial, being filmed by a radio-controlled chopper whilst being recorded by a Saturday-working, Financial District Dell Jockey:

And Matier and Ross say that there were donuts being done on the Bay Bridge – did anybody see that?

Teaser #1 – Impressive – Drifting on a Barge – Chopper Shot

Teaser #2 – All Talk, No Action – Dirt Bike injury? – Man, They Sure are Teasing Us

Teaser #3 – Oh Ma Gah – Drifting and Jumping at the Same Time – Is This Possible?

OMG, Talking Cars! Toyota Friend = SalesForce.com + Microsoft = Marc Benioff + Akio Toyoda

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Well, the Bay Area’s Better BillionaireMarc Benioff of SalesForce.com (No Hardware, No Software No Headaches) has just inked a deal in Japan with Toyota and Microsoft to build a social networking service called “Toyota Friend.

Live from Japan this AM, it’s Marc and Akio, the Toyota Friends!

Via Marc’s ‘Berry, apparently

Check it:

“In a demonstration at a Tokyo showroom, an owner of a plug-in Prius hybrid found out through a cell phone message from his Prius called “Pre-boy” that he should remember to recharge his car overnight. When the owner plugged in his car to recharge it, the car replied, “The charge will be completed by 2:15 a.m. Is that OK? See you tomorrow.“ The exchanges can be kept private, or be shared with other “Toyota Friend” users, as well as made public on Facebook, Twitter and other services, the company said.”

Can you imagine what my ride, Mom’s Taxi (straight outta Toyota City), would say, assuming it could talk? (How about, “Michael, I’m ten years old* – replace me.”)

[Isn't it nice to have SalesForce.com staying in town building a campus down in Mission Bay due to that biotechnology tax exemption championed by non-dull witted political scions like pretty-boy Gavin Newsom and pretty-girl Michela Alioto-Pier? Oh, wait a second, biotech companies like to take all the corporate welfare they can get, you know, so they won't leave town and lay off employees, and then leave town and lay off employees anyway. And SalesForce isn't a biotech company neither. Mmmmm... Let's see here, maybe our local pols, especially the ones who think they know everything because they've gossiped with some Euros in Gstaad once, can't See The Future all that well after all?]

Anyway, this Toyota Friend stuff is new on me.

Bon Courage, SalesForce.

*Maybe someday it will start burning oil and I’ll get the chance to actually add some between changes, but we’re not at that point yet…

WiFi is Your Best Friend When You’re Living in Your Car on the Streets of San Francisco

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

In many parts of the world, people have a place to live but they can’t afford a laptop PC or a car.

In San Francisco, things are a bit different:

For various reasons. (Can you list them?)

All the condensate on the windows – that’s how the SFPD knows you’re sleeping in your car. The cops don’t really care though.

(Your laptop keeps you in the loop and lets you look for work, of course.)

Anyway, this scene is a sign of the times, 2010s-style.

San Francisco Democrats Boo Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger at Gala – How Wude!

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Pity poor Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger – tonight he crashed the annual San Francisco Democratic Party Fundraising Gala and Auction at the Fairmont Hotel atop Nob Hill and he was rewarded with a loud round of booing.

Poor guy. Did Assemblymember Tom Ammiano spontaneously yell, “You lie” at Arnold, ala Congressman Joe Wilson? Haha!

Senator Leland Yee is Taking His Case to the United States Supreme Court

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

The United States Supreme Court is still mulling over the friend of the court brief  filed by Senator (and child psychologist) Leland Yee, the California Psychiatric Association, and the California Psychological Association - it’s all about minors and the regulation of violent video games.

The team behind the brief: A psychiatrist, psychologist/Senator and a lobbyist, that’s what it takes. As they appeared at a recent news conference at the State Building in San Francisco:

The video game industry is not amused, needless to say.

Read the friend of the court brief, after the jump.

The Introspective Great Egrets of Golden Gate Park

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Not to be confused with a yellow-legged Snowy Egret, this black-legged Great Egret (Ardea alba) spotted in  Golden Gate Park‘s Strybing Arboretum (aka San Francisco Botanical Garden) seemed to be transfixed with its plumage for a good long time.

After the preflight inspection, it then flew away.
