Here’s your San Francisco County Transit Authoritah in a nutshell:
“Created in 1989, the Authority is responsible for long-range transportation planning for the city, and it analyzes, designs and funds improvements for San Francisco’s roadway and public transportation networks.”
Well, the SFCTA is on the move in 2013, doing stuff like making new webpages, and, among other things, looking at Bus Rapid Transit for the 415.
So that means studying, like er mah Gah, monstrous buses like these rigs straight outta Mexico City:

Now, would BRT be a good thing for those poor souls living out in the West Bay taking the wretched #38 Geary home every night? IDK. I’ll look into it.

That’s what they’re calling it, MyStreetSF.Com, but all that URL does now is point you to http://www.sfcta.org/mystreetsf-map, which is also new.
Check it, SFCTA is EV ERYWHERE:

This image is just a snapshot. What you should do is click on over and then start tapping on the interactive map.
[Call and response, like when you were an activist before you became a typical selfish millionaire property-owning NIMBY-type] Whose streets? _MY_ STREETS!
Now you’re on the trolley. In fact, you’re paying for one, right…here. See?
All the deets:
[Click on this link to go directly to the MyStreetSF Projects Map.]
From signals to streetcars, bicycles to boulevards, from pedestrian safety to paving, the San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA) provides funding for hundreds of transportation projects citywide. The MyStreetSF interactive map shows all projects currently underway that are funded by, or prioritized for funding by the SFCTA, as well as those for which the SFCTA provides some level of oversight, in our role as Congestion Management Agency for San Francisco.
Most of these projects are funded with Prop K sales tax funds matching other federal, state, or regional funds. We also provide funding through the Prop AA Vehicle Registration Fee and the Transportation Fund for Clean Air programs.
The MyStreetSF interactive map allows you to search for projects by location, Supervisorial District, project type (e.g., bicycle, pedestrian safety, transit rehabilitation), project sponsor, or timeline. Click on a project on the map to see key information (e.g., short description, schedule, cost) and a link to the project page and/or project sponsor’s main page. The map page also includes information on city-wide projects and programs like Bicycle Education and Outreach.
We’re still beta testing the map and continue to work on new features, such as displaying already-completed projects.
Please let us know what you think. Your comments are invaluable in helping us correct, refine, and improve the map.
Disclaimer This map only shows transportation projects funded or prioritized for funding by the SFCTA, as well as those for which SFCTA is responsible for some level of oversight, acting in its capacity as Congestion Management Agency for San Francisco. SFCTA does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of the information shown on the map.

The headline says it all, but here’s the entire release:
“SAN FRANCISCO DISTRICT PTA LEADERSHIP AGAIN URGES STATE PTA TO MAKE A DUAL ENDORSEMENT ON PROPS 30 AND 38
San Francisco — The Second District (San Francisco) PTA leadership recommended in July a dual endorsement of state ballot measures, Propositions 30 and 38, to the California State PTA after hearing from PTA members across the City that funding education was a high priority. At that time, the State PTA held its “Yes” on Prop 38 and voted to approve a “Neutral” position on Prop 30.
In light of recent public polling and campaign dynamics with both initiatives, and again with the encouragement of its members, the District PTA leadership is re-recommending the State PTA take a “Yes” position on Prop 30 to add to its current “Yes” on Prop 38 at the State PTA Board of Managers Meeting October 27.
It is critical that education be funded at a higher level, or at the minimum, maintain current funding in order for all of California’s children to be prepared to be successful in college, career and life. Either Prop 30 or Prop 38 must pass for this to happen. The District PTA also strongly encourages both campaigns to refrain from negative messaging about the other to increase the possibility that at least one measure will receive the required 50% + 1 votes.
Prop 30 would prevent further cuts to K-12 public schools and higher education funding through an increase of around $6 billion per year for 7 years to the state’s general fund budget. Prop 38 would increase funding to K-12 schools, early education and school bond debt payments by $10-11 billion per year for 12 years. Prop 38’s increase in funding would greatly mitigate the result of state education budget cuts of over $20 billion statewide and the laying off of over 40,000 educators over the last three years alone.

I don’t know, if San Francisco’s Nate Ballard and Planet Neptune’s Molly Munger want to drive over the cliff* holding hands ala Thelma and Louise, that’s their business:

Image Photoshopped slightly, courtesy of the Gavin Newsom for Governor Lt. Governor campaign
But I’ll tell you, the People of the State of California are not going to follow them.
Hey Molly, if you’re so great, why don’t you just give all your inherited money to the California Teachers Association no strings attached?
You know, instead of driving over the cliff with Prop 30 stashed in the trunk?
*In a Porsche paid for by Daddy, of course.

So it’s only going to take 9,702 signatures to qualify the proposed “Fix MUNI First Initiative“ for the 2013 November ballot?
Those John Hancocks should be pretty easy to get, I think.
Yes, let’s let The People decide if it’s worth $40,000,000 a year to operate a pretty-much-useless subway shortline.
So maybe Chinatown power broker Rose Pak is smoking her celebratory cigar on the veranda of her taxpayer-funded luxury condo in District Six a touch too soon?
Yes.

Let’s see how easy it will be for her to corral stencil voters outside of Chinatown…

I don’t know what made the mayor of Salinas, CA think that he could See The Future, but he used to think that way, back when he sunk about $500,000 of municipal funds into now-defunct “Green Vehicles, Inc.”
This was the three-wheeler that was going to sell for $25k:

From happier times:
“Green Vehicles was co-founded by Ehab Youssef and Mike Ryan in the wake of a failed ZAP! dealership originally in Los Gatos, California. Disappointment in the state of the battery electric vehicle industry at the time led the small company to take on the ambitious goal of making the world’s most sustainably made, energy efficient freeway commuter.
In 2008, the company changed course, abandoning its manufacturing base in China for an 80,000 sq ft (7,400 m2) facility in Salinas, California in order to make changes to manufacturing operations more consistent with the principles on which the company was founded. Green Vehicles recently applied to the state of California and received supplemental funds to implement Design for Manufacturability and Design for Environment changes before increasing commercial production volumes of the Triac 2.0“
And here’s your timeline:
“On July 30, 2010, Green Vehicles was awarded a grant for over $2,050,000 by the California Energy Commission to assist the company’s efforts to scale up manufacturing operations in Salinas, California.
On July 18, 2011, Green Vehicles announced it had ceased operations, citing a lack of capital. Virtually all of its funding had come from state and local government grants”
Oh well…

[UPDATE: Upon Further Review, it turns out that I was wrong - these banners are made to go together, I now believe. Dude here put a banner in the wrong place and so then he had to remove it, the brown one, to put up the white one. Anyway, all I saw was him taking down the brown one so I misunderstood. Decide on a punishment for me and I'll carry it out forthwith...]
See?

I guess the new wording tested better.

All right, a new UCSF Medical Center study shows that smoking cigarettes won’t help you avoid Alzheimer’s disease.
This might come as news to some people, especially to those who rely on tobacco-industry funding to show that tobacco helps people avoid Alzheimers.
Deets below.
UCSF, back in the day, along with the ur-N Judah:

Study Shows Cigarette Smoking a Risk Factor for Alzheimer’s Disease
February 02, 2010
A UCSF analysis of published studies on the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and smoking indicates that smoking cigarettes is a significant risk factor for the disease. After controlling for study design, quality of the journals, time of publication and tobacco industry affiliation of the authors, the UCSF research team also found an association between tobacco industry affiliation and the conclusions of individual studies. Industry-affiliated studies indicated that smoking protects against the development of AD, while independent studies showed that smoking increased the risk of developing the disease.
Study findings were published online in the Jan. 29, 2010 issue (19:2) of the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease. An abstract of the paper is available online.
