OMG OMG, the New Samsung Galaxy S III Phone is Here, Almost – Release Date is June 21 on the T-Mobile

Monday, June 4th, 2012

The highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III is a coming on June 21, 2012, at (achtung, baby!) T-Mobile, (aka Deutsche Telekom AG) anyway – that’s the news.

Oh, it turns out that that big AT&T / T Mobile merger isn’t going to happen, so TMO soldiers on as America’s #4 (and Germany’s #1) cell phone carrier, not that that really affects me. What affects me is that the T-Mobile doesn’t work so hot in the Lower Haight / Between the Haights (BTH) areas, I’ve noticed, lately, for whatever reason. Otherwise TMO is AOK.

This new device is wide. My man-hands will be able to handle it (in about a half-year or so when my re-up time comes), but what about your hands? I don’t know.

Deets from this AM’s release are below.

“T-Mobile to Debut the Samsung Galaxy S III on June 21 - Latest in Galaxy S series brings fast group sharing and on-the-go entertainment all running on America’s Largest 4G Network

BELLEVUE, Wash. — June 4, 2012 — T-Mobile USA, Inc., the No. 1 mobile operator brand in Samsung Galaxy S sales, and Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile), the No. 1 mobile phone provider in the U.S. and the No. 1 smartphone provider worldwide,1 announced the upcoming release of the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S® III. Starting June 21, T-Mobile customers will have the opportunity to own one of the most innovative smartphones in the market to date, joining the popular Galaxy S family of devices.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is one of T-Mobile’s fastest 4G (HSPA+ 42 technology) smartphones. With an intuitive design, the Galaxy S III enables customers to share photos, videos and more effortlessly to a compatible TV or other Galaxy S III devices. Featuring a beautiful 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED™ screen, the Galaxy S III packs a powerful entertainment experience allowing customers to watch HD movies and TV shows, download apps and securely browse the Web at lightning-fast speeds on America’s Largest 4G Network®.

“We have a tremendous history of working with Samsung to bring cutting-edge devices to market, and we know our customers are excited to get their hands on the Galaxy S III,” said Brad Duea, senior vice president, product management, T-Mobile USA. “As we continue to aggressively compete, this device is yet another example of how T-Mobile delivers amazing devices and 4G experiences to our customers.”

On they go, after the jump.

Well That’s It, the Big AT&T / T-Mobile Cell Phone Co. Merger has been Cancelled – How Will T-Mobile Make It On Its Own?

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

We’ll see.

But I’ll tell you, I’m paying T-Mobile $118 a month (and that includes a whole bunch of tax) for two Samsung Galaxy smartphones, which have  bigger screens, which are lighter, which are better overall than the average Apple iPhone you’ll see about town. And that’s all working out just fine.

AFAIK, I never have network problems. (I have I-need-to-use-WiFi-at-home and I-can’t-get-coverage-in-the-basement-of-the-State-Building issues but I don’t know if that’s T-Mobile’s fault at all, really.)

OMG, Is Costco Basically Giving Away Samsung Galaxy S 4G Android Phones This Month?

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

[UPDATE: Whoops. The good phones are $479 - so take away $430 and you're paying $50 for the phone (assuming you're signing up for a two-year contract) plus The Man takes close to $50 in sales tax away from you. I guess that's close to being free. Unlimited data, two phones = something like $100/mo before taxes.]

I don’t know, but there’s some coupon you members got in the mail that says “up to $430 off” or whatnot – it runs through April 3, 2011.

(I don’t know, does T Mobile work as well as the all-time-grand-champion Sprint network in the 415? Signs point to no, so far. But your phone will switch over to WiFi seamlessly at home so that’s half the battle right there. And outdoors, T Mobile’s doing A-OK with wicked fast performance.*)

Go see manager Nick in the kiosk at the SoMA Costco** and then, You Make The Call over whether this is a good deal or not.

*Not that that matters too much. I’ll tell you, my old-school Sprint smart phone never dropped a call and always worked everywhere all the time (except for the basement of the State Building and your typical elevator). Until that traffic accident, it was doing fine – RIP, Palm 900-something with free unlimited data plan. Maybe I got spoiled with the Sprint network.

**They have more than just T Mobile, of course, but I don’t know all which ones.

I’ll tell you this about Frank Chu – he’s always on, always working.

That’s why he was late to his own birthday party at the Palace Hotel last year, he was on a gig that had suddenly come up right across the street.

This Giant C5 Galaxy is the Plane that Just Delivered Obama’s Limo to SFO

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

I was headed on down to SiliValley on bidness yesterday and what did I see but this huge C5 Galaxyheading north out of San Francisco International. At first I thought it was an old C141 Starlifter, but no, upon further review, it appears to be a C5 of some sort. Now, I’ve seen military aircraft at Honolulu International HNL (in Hawaii of course, where you can’t drive to the Costco without getting intermixed with active duty military humvees), but never at SFO.

Anyway, you can’t have an Air Force One without a cargo plane or two to come with, right?

Here’s the outside of the flying presidential garage, just after takeoff. It’s a living:

And this is what it looks like from the inside.

Look for photos of Obama’s visit on SFist.com – they’ll be sure to have some shots and reports posted in a timely fashion.

Famous Frank “12 Galaxies” Chu Late to His Own 50th Birthday Party

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

What better place for famous Frank Chu to mark a half-century of existence in our Milky Way galaxy than to hold court at the full-century-old Pied Piper Bar & Maxfield’s at the Palace Hotel on Market Street. The problem was that Frank missed the 5:30 PM starting time by a good margin owing to his attendance at a labor rally just across the street.

Tick-tock, Frank, tik-tok.

See? There’s his famous sign, right next to Che Guevara in the pouring sun:

But he was eventually cajoled into quitting work early and joining his party, already in progress. Here he is holding court ‘neath the famous Pied Piper mural / painting.

And then it was off to neighboring Maxfield’s. Here he is posing for a semi Last Supper-style photo:

(Frank always seems to be around a pretty girl.)
