Anyway, we won’t be seeing as many of these people in the future since there’s nothing left to buy.

“SAN FRANCISCO DISTRICT PTA LEADERSHIP AGAIN URGES STATE PTA TO MAKE A DUAL ENDORSEMENT ON PROPS 30 AND 38
San Francisco — The Second District (San Francisco) PTA leadership recommended in July a dual endorsement of state ballot measures, Propositions 30 and 38, to the California State PTA after hearing from PTA members across the City that funding education was a high priority. At that time, the State PTA held its “Yes” on Prop 38 and voted to approve a “Neutral” position on Prop 30.
In light of recent public polling and campaign dynamics with both initiatives, and again with the encouragement of its members, the District PTA leadership is re-recommending the State PTA take a “Yes” position on Prop 30 to add to its current “Yes” on Prop 38 at the State PTA Board of Managers Meeting October 27.
It is critical that education be funded at a higher level, or at the minimum, maintain current funding in order for all of California’s children to be prepared to be successful in college, career and life. Either Prop 30 or Prop 38 must pass for this to happen. The District PTA also strongly encourages both campaigns to refrain from negative messaging about the other to increase the possibility that at least one measure will receive the required 50% + 1 votes.
Prop 30 would prevent further cuts to K-12 public schools and higher education funding through an increase of around $6 billion per year for 7 years to the state’s general fund budget. Prop 38 would increase funding to K-12 schools, early education and school bond debt payments by $10-11 billion per year for 12 years. Prop 38’s increase in funding would greatly mitigate the result of state education budget cuts of over $20 billion statewide and the laying off of over 40,000 educators over the last three years alone.

Oh well.

Well, today’s the start of San Francisco Critical Mass Week 2012.
Michael Krasny of KQED Forum will kick things off with a one-hour show on the history of Critical Mass.
And then festivities will end, of course, this Friday with the big 20th Anniversary Ride the evening of September 28th, 2012. (Not that you’d know it from the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition website’s ”Chain of Events” section, where all info about CM* is now censored.)

About 50 people cycled in a pack along Market Street, hoping to earn some respect from drivers who sometimes ignored them or edged them off the road. They called it the “Commute Clot.” Today it’s known as Critical Mass, a movement that’s spread worldwide. Supporters say it promotes cycling and the rights of bicyclists. But critics say it is illegal, clogs traffic and antagonizes drivers. We talk about Critical Mass’ 20th anniversary, and its effects on the city.

*The SFBC raises money through fees but it also gets mucho dinero directly from SFGov. So that’s why it endorsed Ed Lee for Mayor even though SFBC’s members generally did not and still do not like Ed Lee. Similarly, Chrstina Olague, Mayor Ed Lee’s hand-picked recruit for District 5 Supervisor, gets endorsed over Julian Davis even though SFBC members actually favor JD. The SFBC is basically a quasi-government agency now, so it’s very afraid of seeming to say something negative about certain members of the City Family. It’s also afraid of hurting the chances of its officers someday getting jobs / health care directly with SFGov / SFMTA. Anyway, that’s why the SFBC is basically a SFGov kiss-ass these days. It will lobby San Francisco government, certainly, but that’s about as far as it wants to go. (Think about it – who would the SFMTA endorse for Mayor?)

Bad pedestrian behavior on this block has led to the death of one TJ’s shopper this year so far.
The question is why do peds act this way at this particular location.
The other question is what can be done about this.

I don’t know, why are the lights on on these CHP prowlers?

I mean, this is the entire motorcade, so it’s not like cross-traffic is being stopped or anything.
I mean, don’t you want to be kind of low profile? Oh, I see, you feel that not enough people pay attention to
you, so everybody stare at me while I ride to the Starbucks?

IMO.
But here’s why it’s generally in the interest of the CHP to patronize electeds.

Note that it doesn’t say “World Series race” or whatever. It says America’s Cup August 21st – 26th, 2012.
Was this thing broadcast on regular TV? I don’t think so. (Of course a small part of next year’s event will be on NBC, but only because NBC refused to pay a broadcast fee. San Francisco isn’t getting an event fee from Larry Ellison because he refused to pay one. And we’re on the hook for $30,000,000 to host this fiasco because why? Who approved this?)
Now there was live coverage on the Internet, but the worldwide audience was 195 souls when I checked during 2:00-4:00 PM prime-time yesterday. How many people have “crowded” the shore? A few hundreds?
And this is the start of the supposedly big event what’s supposedly bigger than all sporting events in the world bar the Summer Olympics and World Cup football? And this is the start of the supposedly big event what’s supposedly bigger than the Super Bowl and Euro soccer, you know, games where fans actually pay money to watch.
What if they gave an America’s Cup and nobody came? Because nobody cared.
Wouldn’t a renaissance festival in Golden Gate Park have a bigger “economic impact” than what we’re seeing from the America’s Cup? I think so.
Oh, but we won’t know because RPD, with its excessive fees for security guards / park rangers getting paid OT to sleep in their vehicles, chased the Golden Gate Renaissance Faire out of Golden Gate Park a few years back.
Why is the City Family so supportive of the America’s Cup and so against other types of events?
Oh, here we go, here’s a reporter actually reporting on the America’s Cup fiasco. (Note that this person works for the San Joser Mercury News…)
Oh, so per the SJMN, it was Louis Vuitton what insisted on absurdly-large catamarans for the America’s Cup 2013? Who allowed Louis Vuitton to be in charge of what happens in the 415?
True story: A few years back, a San Francisco Supervisor was telling people that God had San Francisco lose a Summer Olympics venue competition so that the America’s Cup 2013 could slot right in as a replacement. Yes, she thought that (well, anyway, she told people that she thought) Divine Providence was working through Larry Ellison to bring us AC34. I’m seriously.
Well, at least former Mayor Gavin Newsom was made Ambassador at Large or something, that’s kind of like being a real ambassador, I guess. But uh oh, this link doesn’t work anymore:

You know, when I see all the “improvements” what have come to the Mid-Market since Willie Brown stooge Ed Lee worked to undo the tax signed into law by Willie Brown stooge Gavin Newsom in 2004,* I think, wow, how much better would things be in the Mid-Market if Mark Pincus had donated $100,000 to Mayor Ed Lee (you know, instead of just $50,000) so that the City and County of San Francisco would have then “invested” $3.5 million into Zynga (you know, instead of just $1.75 million).
In closing, please remember that all social problems can only be solved through investments in real estate.
*Yep. Gavin Newsom the Tax Raiser, the Job Killer. It was a different era.
