Thursday, January 29th, 2015

It looks like this, with about 20 people queuing up about 20 minutes before the event begins:

Would SFGov / Rec and Park consider these fliers “illegal?”

Yep, they would.

Anyway, that’s what it looked like.

OMG, LAN Airlines Gave Away Hundreds of Round-Trip Tickets to South America at a Random Oakland Restaurant Last Night?

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

Yes it did.

Just look at these happy patrons over at Jack London Square’s Bocanova restaurant.

And thusly:

Man, if I had knowed, I would have loaded up the Land Cruiser with eight souls and headed on over there.

And then I’d have been off to Sud America to see Paradise Falls or to party like an impossible-to-fire BART spokesmodel or to do something, man.

Well-played, LAN Airlines.

Well–played, Edelman PR

All the deets after the jump.

Did Ford Motor Company Really Come to Justin Herman Plaza to Give Away a $15k Fiesta Yesterday? Yes. Limbo Limbo!

Friday, December 10th, 2010

Living in San Francisco can have its challenges but one nice thing is that corporations (yeah, man, the corporations, man) come to town and start giving stuff away.

As it was yesterday in Justin Herman Plaza, where Ford gave away a car to the best limbo-er who showed up. (I would have told you about it but it was one of those Facebook deals, and it’s hard for me to get info off of the FB sometimes,* so I didn’t know about the deets even though I had a link, oh well.)

Anyway, see footage of the thrilling conclusion of the two finalists right here – it’s a punchy three minutes.

Fiesta Thunderdome: Two limber gals enter, one limber gal wins

Congratulations, winner!

*I sometimes forget my fake name and/or my password. You have to use a totally new password to give to Facebook else that oily Zuckerberg fellow will use it to log on to your Gmail and whatnot to spy on you. That’s how he rolls. I’ll tell you, I outlived the AOL** and I’ll outlive the FB**, you’ll see.

Enter the $100,000 2010 San Francisco Dream Wedding Giveaway to Win Win Win!

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Are you just about to get married? If so, there appears to be no downside entering the 2010 San Francisco Dream Wedding Giveaway. And if you win, you’ll be getting hitched on May 14, 2010, whether you like it or not!

All this assumes that you’re not bashful talking about your fiance (or fiancee) and that you don’t mind being exposed to a wedding-related sales pitch or two. After all, you only get married one time (or eight (!) times, something in that area).

And just for fun, read the FAQ. Apparently, ingrates, people who haven’t even won yet, write in with less-than-gracious inquiries:

Q} – I already paid deposits to other vendors for the wedding I have been planning on my own. Can I get those deposits back?

Q} I can’t afford to take time off work. If I am the winner, will I be compensated for my time?

Q} Can we cancel the wedding if we are the winners?

(Can you imagine? I mean, really, mink coats and no manners, right ladies?)

Anyway, here are the deets. The contest starts August 4, 2009, at exactly 7:55 AM Pacific Standard Time.

You can’t win if you don’t play! And Our Schools Win Too!*

Afterwards, the winners will head to Milliken Creek Inn in Napa, CA for a three night honeymoon including: Dinner on board the Napa Valley Wine Train, spa treatments and a private lunch and winery tour at Robert Mondavi Winery.
“These days, it seems all we ever hear on TV is bad news, with the recession, home foreclosures, and hundreds of people losing their jobs every day,” says Liz Guthrie, the contest producer, and owner of San Jose Wedding Consultants, LLC. “Weddings are expensive, and many people cannot afford a lavish wedding, especially given the state of the economy. We wanted to offer something back to the community that has been so good to us over the years, and the 2010 San Francisco Dream Wedding seemed like the perfect opportunity.”
The winning couple will receive the following goods and services: wedding planner, coordinator and event designer; catered rehearsal dinner for 25 guests at a 1 Fort Mason; wedding ceremony and reception venue at Hotel Vitale; 3 nights’ accommodations in San Francisco; 3 nights’ accommodations in Napa; catered dinner; specialty rentals; shoes and dresses for the bride and her bridesmaids; Massage treatments in San Francisco and again in Napa; bridal party hair and makeup; jewelry for bride; wedding rings for bride and groom; wedding cake and grooms’ cake; engagement, rehearsal and wedding photography; videography; classical guitarist; cocktail hour jazz trio; party band for reception; DJ/emcee; custom invitations and wedding stationery; specialty lighting; limo transportation; photo booth; wedding favors; and more…

Get Your Bike and Join the Light Club, Tonight at 6:00 PM

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

The first rule of Fight Club is… “you do not talk about Fight Club.” On the other hand, the first rule of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition‘s Light Club is… use your bike lights at night and feel free to tell everyone about it.

And today you’re in luck because you can join the club tonight for free all over San Francisco just by showing up at one of five locations. Click on the handy map here.

But speaking of rules, you need to bring your bike with you and it can’t have lights on it already. That’s it. Now you’re ready to queue up.

This was the scene last year, with Andy Thornley himself personally installing lights in front of the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center in the Fillmore:

  • Market St. @ Duboce
  • Howard St. @ 8th
  • Valencia St. @ Cesar Chavez
  • McAllister St. @ Webster
  • Polk St. @ California
  • “The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is teaming up with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to promote safe night riding by distributing thousands of free bike lights to those who can’t afford or don’t have access to them. SFBC volunteers will be installing lights along the city’s major bike corridors on Tuesday, December 2nd from 6-7pm. We are working to increase rider visibility in the darkening winter hours, and lights are a key piece of safety gear! Check out for locations and information on how to volunteer. Spread the word to your friends and neighbors who are riding in the dark!

We are specifically targeting cyclists who do not have lights, you must bring your bicycle to receive the free lights.”

    See you there!

Will Radiohead Give Away Concert Tickets to Bicycle Riders in San Francisco?

    Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Radiohead’s recent attempt to give away concert tickets failed in France because people were too lazy to pedal their bikes on over to pick them up. Quelle horreur!

But things will be different if Radiohead tries the same stunt in San Francisco this summer.

A rainbow over Golden Gate Park from the San Francisco Botanical Garden. The park will be In Rainbows once again when the Outside Lands music festival starts up on August 22nd.

In fact, if Radiohead tries to give away tickets to people who cycle to some office building in San Francisco, a riot will probably break out.

There Will Be Blood, or at least a squabble or two. But, rest assured, all available free tickets will get distributed and used.

    See you there!
