Look at what Bluoz spotted atop our Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals:
“This is on top of the flag pole at the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals at 95 7th street, corner of Mission and 7th, so if your near there, look up, because that area and the federal building across the street is pretty much home to this pair of hawks and they’re often circling above. And this golden eagle on the flag pole is one of their favorite perches.”
Impressive!

Don’t miss the giant Buddha* – he’s in the mix as well:

Merry Christmas!
* Now, you think, and I’m srsly you guys, you think maybe at some point Gumps could make a replica of the Buddha and then send the original back to Northern China whence it came? Just asking, Gump-bro. I know you have custody of it currently, from Agents of Fortune, though Accident of History, but is that the way it will always be?
“A Qing Dynasty gilded wood Buddha, carved for a summer palace in Northern China, is located in the store. It was carved in the Northern Manchurian Province of Jehol, the summer capital of the Ch’ing Emperors in the early 19th Century. The piece, the largest of its kind outside a museum, is the only item in the store that is not for sale.”
China, China, calling out to history
Is that the way it will always be?
The five-star-rated San Francisco EATS Exhibition continues in the basement and the “6th Floor Skylight Gallery” (Note to self: Say what now, Skylight Gallery?) of our Main Public Library on Larkin.
Here’s a part of the ephemera and whatnot they’ve got down there – a useful map of the bay area with all the landmarks and cities laid out.

“Golden Guardian 2010” – it’s on!
“Golden Guardian 2010 will be the sixth Full Scale Exercise (FSE) in the Governor’s Golden Guardian Exercise Series since 2004. The theme of Golden Guardian 2010 is terrorist attacks in multiple ports throughout California. The FSE will be aligned with the National Level Exercise, NLE10 (Improvised Nuclear Device in FEMA Region IX), and will take place over several days in May 2010.”
O.K. then. Joe Eskenazi has a full report with video.

Tomorrow’s Big Game between the Stanfurd Cardinals (or Trees or whatevur) and the University of California Golden Bears might prove to be the best one yet, what with both sides being in the Top 25 for the first time ever. You ought to tune in and see if the coaches are all, “What’s your deal man? No, what’s your deal, man?”
Uh oh, which channel? Versus? (I don’t know, back in the days of analog TV everything was simple, remember?)
Now they can’t play at the Haight Street Grounds (good name for a coffee shop, non?) anymore cause The Man tore it down and put up houses, so Palo Alto’s Stanford Stadium will have to suffice. Log on or tune in at 4:30 PM, even if you don’t like college football.
Here’s the lineup. First Cal…
..and now here’s the Cardinal:

Hurray!
NB: Cal will lose.
This pair of Hooded Mergansers (Lophodytes cucullatus) are definitely taking a rest with their heads tucked in.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean they close their golden eyes…
