Thursday, July 12th, 2012Well, here’s the new SoMA Streatfood Park, betwixt the I-beams of the Central Freeway (near the western terminus of I-80) and Store #144, America’s First Urban Costco.
I guess I passed through the place early – it looked like a ghost town when I was there.
But the Yelpers, well, they love it.
As does Amanda Gold. And the Wall Street Journal reminds us that the SFP is just a short “stroll” from the $3.2 million penthouse at 9 Bernice.

So, you’ve been warned.
I don’t know, I’m sure it was a royal PITA to get the SFP up and running. And I know that the gestation period for this new baby was longer than a rhino’s, but of course a lot of that had to do with setting up the handicapped-accessible bathrooms and the pavillion and whatnot.
What I don’t know is how things will shake out for the SFP over the next year or two. This could be a case of a K-selection strategy in an r-selection environment.
We’ll see.

This cute pup was guarding an Acura parked on 10th Street while its owner visited our SoMA Costco (I assume, I mean, why else would anybody park down there?)

Problem? The disabled placard hanging from the rear-view has expired. See?
So guess who was waiting for this car’s owner to show up – it was DPT’s Disabled Placard Street Team with their bright blue shoulder patches.

This issue could end up costing the driver thousands of dollars, when all is said and done.** (I can’t say for sure because I don’t get paid by the City Family to stakeout cars, plus I had to split. Oh well.)

**The funny thing is that Costco has plenty of free parking. And honestly, I don’t think the good people of Costco would care all that much if you parked in their garage while shopping elsewhere. As stated, there’s nothing else going on ’round that area so it’s not like they’re on the lookout for renegade parkers.

ZOMG, October 16th, 2011 is Yerba Buena Family Day – Free Admission to SFMOMA – Thanks Target!
Tuesday, September 27th, 2011October 16th, 2011 will be on a Sunday so I’ll prolly be breakin’ in the malls, breakin’ on the streets, natch, but you, you’ve got kids, so you should head down to SoMA for Yerba Buena Family Day 2011.
It’s:
“…San Francisco’s biggest daylong family block party with free admission, special art activities and free performances for children and families at the following venues within 1 or 2 blocks of each other in the Yerba Buena arts district at 3rd Street and Mission Street in downtown San Francisco.”
That means that Target will pick up the tab when you visit the SFMOMA, the Jew Mu, the MoAD and the Children’s Creativity Museum.
Hurray! (Hey Target, why are you taking so long to open down there in Metreon? Or for that matter, Geary and Masonic. C’mon, wiki wiki.)

This Little Scamp in SoMA is Just Part of the Reason Why It’s Hard to Do Bizness in the 415 – Skipping Stones Across 9th Street
Tuesday, July 12th, 2011This street imp was looking like all the others, just a slob like one of us, until he pulls a rock out of his hoodie and hurls a 70 mph fastball across 9th without really breaking stride. He reared back and hurled but then resumed walking with a quickness.
I was supposing he was throwing the rock at a person but his target was a business vehicle, a white van.
The thing is he threw it down and counted on a random bounce get it up to where it could do some damage.
Anyway, here he is, walking away, all casual, IndyBay personified. If you looked around after getting struck you wouldn’t necessarily suspect him. This kid’s a pro, a professional:
And here’s his rock, found right in the middle of the sidewalk across the street, seen next to a fat lawyer’s shoe for comparison:
How many more stones does this kid have in his hoodie’s marsupial pocket? Probably lots.
So this is why your window gets broken randomly, for no reason.
Now you’d think the hormones coursing through his veins would be telling him to get out there and try to impress girls, or boys, or whomever, you know, so he could have sex or something, right? But no, all that frustration and energy gets poured into another kind of release, the satisfaction of hearing breaking windows or causing grievous bodily injury to random pedestrians on the mean streets of San Francisco.
Oh well…
