AFTER BARTY: I Finally Understand Lyft’s new FRIENDS WITH TRANSIT Campaign – But Lyft has NO IDEA How Slow our SFMTA MUNI Can BeMonday, November 23rd, 2015
Here’s a new one – another Friends With Transit ad:
Now this ad I get – it’s saying how Lyft can become your “last mile” transportation solution.
Fine, but this ad here, the one I saw first seems to equate our MUNI METRO service as something akin to a fast, reliable transit system. Perhaps it might seem that the 415 has something like that to young people in NYC or whatever or whomever or wherever, but IRL you wouldn’t suffer through an N Judah ride only to take a Lyft taxi a few hundred yards north to (your home / tent / self-dug hobbit hole in) Golden Gate Park.
Now, why would our slow, corrupt SFMTA appreciate these ads? Well, it’s money for partner ClearChannel and the SFMTA, plus it’s saying how Lyft is compatible with transit, as opposed to, you know, Lyft “disrupting” the SFMTA by siphoning money away from it.
So IDK, Frisco has a ton of bus stops all over town, so I think ppl would simply walk the last quarter mile or less it takes to get home. Perhaps this ad campaign makes sense in less urban areas?
So Lyft is Paying Our SFMTA to Put Up Bus Stop Ads That Make Lyft Look Like a Transit System? “STOPS THAT JUST WON’T STOP”Thursday, November 5th, 2015
Sure looks that way
So what if a an Airbnber from Italy stopped rolling his luggage down Hayes and asked me, “Excuse please, what mean this?” Like, what would I say?
IDK. Lyft is a taxi service, I’d say. But I wouldn’t be able to explain the graphic or what STOPS THAT JUST WON’T STOP means.
Another Hum-Drum Injury Car Accident on Masonic – Airbags Everywhere, Cars Totalled – Autobots Sacrifice Selves to Save OwnersMonday, September 14th, 2015
An accident* on Masonic yesterday at Hayes, with CCSF’s John Adams Campus (the former Lowell High School, 1913-1962):
(My money’s on the VW’s driver being at fault, but who knows.)
Now how many airbags exploded during this fender bender, like a dozen? You could see all matter of them from a distance. How much would it cost to replace a single side curtain bag, for instance, one wonders. The upshot is that the people inside these rides get injured less than they would have a generation ago, but the cars get damaged more.
So it’s off to the scrapheap they go.
Seems fair enough.
*’Cause it wasn’t on purpose. Now if it were, then we’d call this collision attempted homicide or something. But if you’re an “urbanist” or whatnot, feel free to call it a collision if you want – that word would also apply. TY, drive through.
In the next world war
In a jackknifed juggernaut
I am born again.
In the neon sign
Scrolling up and down
I am born again
In an interstellar burst
I am back to save the universe
In a deep, deep sleep
Of the innocent
I am born again
In a fast German car
I’m amazed that I survived
An airbag saved my life
Hollywood-Types Invade the Western Addition for a Nighttime Shoot – A Fake ATM Installed on Hayes, Next to the Style-O-Rama ShopSunday, September 13th, 2015
[UPDATE: Oh, this flick is called PUSHING DEAD, with Danny Glover.]
Hey look, it’s a fake “EVERGOLD” CREDIT UNION ATM – the gold paint’s still wet. As seen tonight at Hayes and Ashbury:
All the deets – these particular Hollywood-types hail from Newport Beach, as many of them do.
Grab some popcorn and then head on over to watch “P. Dead,” whatever that is. Anywho, this show will end by 2:00 AM Monday morning.
Stay gold, Frisco.
Play us out, Beck.
They sent five trucks, looks like:

A Sign of the Times:
Facebook Buses are, Once Again Improperly “Staging” in SFMTA Bus Stops – Zuckerberg vs. the 21 Hayes – Idle, Idle, Idle…Tuesday, July 14th, 2015
To review, corporate shuttles aren’t allowed to “stage” (hang out, idle around, wait for the next run to start) in MUNI bus stops. Here is staging in action, just yesterday:
Arguably, the whole SFMTA Commuter Bus Pilot Program does not comply with CA state law. Arguably.
Having said that, this Facebook vehicle isn’t in compliance – disallowed staging and no green SFMTA Pilot sign front and rear.
And what’s this, homemade-appearing Florida license plates – looks legit!
Of course it’s good for drivers to take a break to walk around sometimes, but there’s no official place for these buses to do so.
Astonishingly, FB drove these drivers into becoming fully-unionized Teamsters. I understand the distance that Zuck wants to keep from liability – from accidents and the sometimes-crazy actions of workers, but man, there’s been a signif. cost to its corporate image. Couldn’t FB have said it wants the lowest bidder but that the drivers must be paid like $50 an hour? IDK.
Oh, really this is a Loop Transit bus? Well no, it’s a Facebook bus, you know, IRL
